love this level of challenge and comitment, reminds me of old school trialing with a major update, great stuff we need more of this. thanks for the share, yes am late to the party but wow this rocks.
Downhill? What the hell is the point of DOWNhill racing? Can't recall ever catching that one...but yeah, I mean we have every type of damn racing there is. We have freakin bar stool racing for fucks sake......😐 We basically do have this, we just don't quite have this exact kind of terrain/weather together. Some boggy kinda stuff in Alaska. We've got side by side, all kinds of rock racing, mud bogs (just boring straight ones though), short course, stadium, open desert racing, if there is a thing, we race it. I'm sure there are probably organized leaf blower/office chair races somewhere. If not there should be. Or homemade hovercrafts. Each team gets a few leaf blowers, a piece of plywood, some rubber, a bunch of duck tape, and an hour or so to build, then race...
@@eclipsegaming9916 thanks for confirming that. I wasnt sure but the way you see the good codrivers feathering the levers I thought brakes would make most sense.
This may be a stupid question, but what are the levers for? Is he controlling the rear wheel steer? Is he individually braking the tires? Couldn’t really make it out. Regardless, fun to watch.
Thanks Mat. Yes I am hearing the feedback on this but one of the main reasons for creating this whole event and to have it broadcast on NZ TV is to show how the competitors are scored and have a "live" score board. This is not able to be achieved in the usual NZ 4x4 trials. I bet if we used smaller scoreboard people would complain that they couldnt read it lol.
Some would complain, we always do ;) but there's not actually that much information on the scorecard and you could make it quite a bit smaller, esp if most people are watching on today's giant tv's and monitors.
I'm really confused. This is Suzuki Extreme 4x4 Challenge but the first car had a Corvette engine. How come? Don't take me wrong. I like what I see, very much, but what has Suzuki to do with it?
I wonder if there are rules about the tires you can use. None of these trucks are using really aggressive tires. I tried looking up rules but found nothing. Anyone know?
These light trucks dont work on aggressive tyres. Plus we need the grip on sides of steep hills. Many tyres simply fold under or slide. There are also rules on what tyres we can use. If the rules are the same for everyone then we dont need more grip and we dont need to dig holes for the other competitors.
very cool stuff! would have liked to actually see the trucks doing the course tho. rather than all the cam switching and driver face time lol. Just a nice over head cam would be good and maybe some doubled ground lvl action.
What are the control levers that the assistant is using in these vehicles? Rear steer controls or maybe side to side brakes? Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
not necessarily. They are all designed to test the trucks and competitors. Viewers want to watch the vehicles get somewhere and not get stuck at beginning of course. And sometimes it is difficult to achieve that.
Is there ever a winner .... seems like they all get stuck in the same spot. Looks like take ur time dont hit the tape or a flag and get stuck where the last guy did bingo tied for first
It's cause paddle tyres dont have side bite or reverse bite. You need side bite to sidehill without sliding, and reverse bite for the brakes to be effective. There's more to this than formula off road or mud bogging
Trail Work nah, man. When he pulls one it gives the other brakes a break. It's for wheels to take individual breaks so they can have a cigarette and cool down after a long shift.
I saw a lot of inconsistent judging, for the trucks brushing the gates & tape-line. Some would touch them, and still earn the points. Need more people on-course keeping an eye on the rules. Other than that, very exciting motor sport!!
Thanks for making this video. I really wanted to enjoy it, but found the editing too annoying to watch. The limited distant-footage was great, but the video had too many cuts, too many close-ups, and too much in-car footage. And that giant annoying gate-graphic covering much of the action.
Look up powercruise Sydney or Brisbane that’s street driven but the original and still the ultimate car show that car heads have the biggest horsepower is summernats in Canberra and y’all be able to see how to do a proper burnout lol even girls love them shows
The thing i don't like is if you get ahead you go first and the people that go first always rack up the highest points because they are using the fresh course. Meaning unless you get a lucky break on the first couple you won't ever win
For the first two years we ran the trucks in the same order each course. This was more for filming and editing reasons than anything else. But yes it seemed the later you hit the courses the better. So with the event you watching now the initial start order was drawn from a hat. Thats the order they ran for the first coures. Then on the 2nd course the first guy went to the back and so on and so on. That meant that each driver got to go 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc on a course. 10 drivers, 10 courses. Couldnt think of a way to do it any fairer.
It's called reflexes that close your eyes when mud is flying at them? Getting mud on your eyelids is better than not being able to see through your mud covered goggles. Also kiwis are just harder than other people so dont need goggles
Hi Bill. Yes it certainly makes it a team effort. Usually co-driver on brakes as driver has more than enough to do in heat of the moment. Remember no stopping in this game. Sometimes lockers and rear steer by co driver just depends on individual preferances.
This is different then what we do in the States and a extra driver! Very interesting and enjoyable! Thank you!
Thanks yes just another take on the cool sport of 4x4 trials.
CaptainBlackCrazy8 definitely weird compared to here lol

Brakes and diff locks, those are the 4 levers.
Dean Nederhoff
The other levers are cutting brakes.
I like this type of racing for sure.
Found myself hanging onto my seat.... almost forget to breath watching this. Such an awesome sport.
This is terribly interesting. Thank you for posting it.
love this level of challenge and comitment, reminds me of old school trialing with a major update, great stuff we need more of this. thanks for the share, yes am late to the party but wow this rocks.
i really appreceate that they get to the action without hardly any filler or bs, not at all like similar themed american shows.
AWESOME! Very fun to watch! Action packed!
Never seen this before, its AWESOME lots of power and super Technic. I think this sport will a lot bigger. Max :)
This is tough stuff; the courses are so tight and the scoring is exacting. Looks like a helluva challenge.
Thanks. Thats what its a bout. A challenging yet safe competition.
reminds me of my driveway in the spring time.
This is cool working as a team going through the track.
Awesome race!
Awesome video! I love those slow motion shots.
Well I never seen this racing before Cowper trucks, be watching more of this really exciting lol 👍👍👍👍
Thanks very much. There will be more to come.
Great to see some 4x4 action from across the 'Ditch'!
This is some cool stuff. Right side only steering?
I love these buggy's they look like slot of fun
Ya gotta admire the engineering that goes into these trucks
Looks pretty cool. A friend and you take on the coarse. Noice
this is awesome wish we had it in the states
Creepycrawler you Americans have downhill Jeep racing which I think is better

What do those levers in front of the co-drivers do?
The handles are independent wheel breaks each handle controls a wheel to help cornering and stearing
@@eclipsegaming9916: Ok thanks👍

The co driver controls the levers which if there is a sharp turn he pulls one and it locks that wheel up each wheel has a individual lever
Those trucks are AWESOME!!!!!
Keynon Barnes p 00p
These things are awesome! I want one!
It's like 4x4 trials from what it looks like. Never seen it before but grew up in trials my whole life.
GREAAAAAT
What are the levers the passengers constantly pulling?
Great looking buggies looks heaps off fun
Cheers bro it is just that!
Great vid - maybe just make the scorecard a little smaller next time : )

Goodjob
Nice!!!
Thanks.
Fun stuff but why 100 points per gate? Wouldn't the spread be the same if it was 1 point per gate? Are there any little points (less than 100)?
This looks like a frickin blast!!! But why doesnt anyone at least wear helmets with faceshield or even just goggles?!
as above the drivers cant see once goggles are dirty. They become good at squinting through eyes when mud around....
What is the copilot doing?
working the brakes
@@hijinx4x4trialsteam89 hand brakes huh. One for each tire?
@@cooperd83 yeah
I remember being there watching this
37:35 Like the car and the Color
Pardon my ignorance but the co-driver, is he controlling the rear stear? or are the levers rear steer and cutting brakes?
never mind I just hears them say that they are individual brake levers, (cutting breaks) pretty amazing stuff!
Que son las palancas que maneja el.copiloto?
What's the point if they make the course impossible to finish?
Wonder if a Sherp would have a chance?
what are the handles that the navigator is holding?
Individual wheel brakes
Have a shot for every time the commentator says "so far so good".
21:17 that guy definitely stopped that car from rolling further lol
yeah... he shoooooooooooooor did
What are the passengers with the 4 handles infronts job? Do the handles control the shocks?
Individual brakes
good watch
i like this but i would add time to it to separate all the ones in the same place of points
Looks like fun

joe boss Really? They sponsor the entire event. It's not like Suzuki is irrelevant to motorsports.
I thought these were going to be Suzuki vehicles

I like to see a build.of one of these
I wonder if there are rules about the tires you can use. None of these trucks are using really aggressive tires. I tried looking up rules but found nothing. Anyone know?
Suzuki somersault challenge 🤘
Awsome sport, they need more grip coz there light, BOGGER TIRES must be a win-win combination
Andre Zeeuw de not so sure. Maybe if you swipe them. They are normally shit in grass

Are goggles illegal in this sport?
I think it's just their preference not too.. tear-aways would be smart if they are legal.
For anybody wondering what the co pilot does 7:38
Had a feeling that's what it was for, 4 levers an 4 wheels so makes sense lol
What is the co pilot controlling can anyone explain to me? First I’ve ever seen of this sport, looks wild
I’ve worked it🤦♂️ locks the wheel for tighter turns I’m guessing
Is it called a cowper truck cause you can get a cow per truck? I dont get it......
Guy's name that builds em...and drives em, he's in the video, pay attention bueller.
This is ace , come to the uk please.
How are they riding with no goggles
What are the control levers that the assistant is using in these vehicles? Rear steer controls or maybe side to side brakes? Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
Individual Brake levers for each wheel
Don't the courses get harder as they go?
not necessarily. They are all designed to test the trucks and competitors. Viewers want to watch the vehicles get somewhere and not get stuck at beginning of course. And sometimes it is difficult to achieve that.
What is the second driver for? What does he do?
also wanna ask this questions
7:38
nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Zuk power!!!!!!!!
🤣🤣🤣 where?!¿?¡ There's a Buick, but no Suzuki.
Where the f*** are there goggles lmao!!.🤣🤣🤣
Good question......
They probably don't want them because the first bit of mud would block their vision. Wiping that mud would make it smear. It's easier to squint lol
@@myefhatch bingo
@@myefhatch but what about tear offs. Used by enduro and motocross riders etc.?
Klaani K I dont think they have time for that. Same idea is why in another races they dont used windshield, they just clean the visor of the helmet.

What are those leavers for?
Dominique LeBlanc co-driver is controlling the breaks to each wheel individually.
Jess Please. *brakes
Trail Work nah, man. When he pulls one it gives the other brakes a break. It's for wheels to take individual breaks so they can have a cigarette and cool down after a long shift.
Trail Work sometimes the brakes have to take a break to keep the wheels spinning. Nawtamean?
The passenger got brake levers ?
what does the guy on the left side accomplish by pulling those levers
I believe he is locking the 1 of the 4 tires. I lever per tire
yes it is individual brakes so that he can turn the vehicle without the other guy steering
left right rear break
Not just to steering but to braking individually each tire too. That is the oldest ,and most reliable, differential locking system.

I've never seen this b4. What the hell is the co-pilot doing?
Damn hoping there would be a answer here
Pulling the brake levers so pull one and it locks up one of the wheels helping the truck go around the corners
lol, how do you even get into this stuff?
like all motorsports, money and passion.
