Naofumi, the shield hero, was the only one out of the four heroes at the start that didn't ask for anything when summoned. The other 3 refused to help right away unless they got a reward. Dang, even at the very beginning you can see who the real hero is.

Can we get a round of applause for Erhard the Weapon's Merchant? Even when the whole city, and even the other heroes turned on Naofumi, Erhard stuck by him and gave him some clothes for his quest. Raphtalia may be his sword and his most trusted companion, but Erhard was the ONLY person to believe Naofumi when Myne betrayed him.
I don’t really watch much dubs these days, but I quite enjoyed Billy Kametz’s performance as Naofumi when this first aired. You’ll be missed, but your work will continue to entertain and inspire for years to come. Rest In Peace Billy.

Each member has a role. Without each other they are helpless. A shield defends while a sword or a bow or a spear attacks. Without the offense, the defense is stuck standing there absorbing damage till eventually the defense breaks. Without defense, a bunch of offense centered units will get themselves killed quickly by thrusting themselves into situations without accounting for enemy attacks or countermeasures.

They keep saying that they need ALL 4 in order to stop the waves successfully, but the other 3 keep failing at the most basic lesson: teamwork.
The ironic thing here is, the other 3 heroes have equipment to kill. The shield hero can build a nation because his equipment allows him to buff and protect his allies. Fight as much as you like but when all your allies are down, you would go down too. Even if he lacks offensive capability for the most part, he can make sure his allies stay in top shape for longer.
I always wished DS had more offensive shields besides the parry which is just really difficult to master for me. I always loved how the black knights and silver knights shields were backwards so the pointed end faced down and they would strike you with it sometimes. I actually don’t use shields because I love dodging attacks and being aggressive, but shields are badass and effective when used offensively

I did my research, so not only did I know in advance, but the tension of Naofumi's up coming betrayal was tedious...also the worst part was, she was so friendly up until Naofumi was brought before the king...after that it was 'Myne I'd like to introduce you to my fist'.
You know going back through this episode? It's amazing how much hidden foreshadowing there is, from how Aultcray refers to the 'so called' shield hero, to Myne not being recognized by the blacksmith despite her being the one to recommend the shop and claiming to have been there before. Little touches like that really make the twist more shocking and i love it.

I never went through anything quite like that, I never let any girl do that to me, but I do relate to Naofumi’s alienation from society, my entire childhood was basically nonstop ostracism. Being declared “the freak” for something I was too young to understand or do anything about. It really fosters a toxic worldview, and that connected with me. I’m better now, thanks.

I really want to play a game with this anime's UI and leveling system. The idea of an evolving weapon or armor piece that you can power up with what you find in the world is intriguing. Would be excited to see the idea expanded.

Enjoyable, but that was more a hack-and-slash adventure, in the same skein as Devil May Cry. I would really love it if some game company developed a game where you pick a weapon type and style and depending upon what you interacted with, the weapon would change. Granted, the leveling system would be complicated, which would explain why such a system hasn't been tried yet.

How sad is it that so many men in the real world have to suffer the same kind of false accusations as the shield hero? I feel so much sympathy for his character that it's physically irksome.
This show demonstrates the importance of the judiciary. Notice how Naofumi never get a fair trial; there was no forensics, no investigation, no collecting of evidence. The King just declared him guilty on his accuser's word alone.

This show is a great story of falling and rising up. One of my favorite anime.
This is a perfect example of how to turn someone into a villain.

You know going back through this episode? It's amazing how much hidden foreshadowing there is, from how Aultcray refers to the 'so called' shield hero, to Myne not being recognized by the blacksmith despite her being the one to recommend the shop and claiming to have been there before. Little touches like that really make the twist more shocking and i love it.

It really is sad when the ppl u thought were close to u had such malicious inten, i don't trust ppl ever since my room mate stole all my belongings. I couldn't even report her to the police properly since she flashed me a fake ID, i legit thought we were friends. Five yrs together and one gone with everything

I never went through anything quite like that, I never let any girl do that to me, but I do relate to Naofumi’s alienation from society, my entire childhood was basically nonstop ostracism. Being declared “the freak” for something I was too young to understand or do anything about. It really fosters a toxic worldview, and that connected with me.

I really want to play a game with this anime's UI and leveling system. The idea of an evolving weapon or armor piece that you can power up with what you find in the world is intriguing. Would be excited to see the idea expanded.

Enjoyable, but that was more a hack-and-slash adventure, in the same skein as Devil May Cry. I would really love it if some game company developed a game where you pick a weapon type and style and depending upon what you interacted with, the weapon would change. Granted, the leveling system would be complicated, which would explain why such a system hasn't been tried yet.

How sad is it that so many men in the real world have to suffer the same kind of false accusations as the shield hero? I feel so much sympathy for his character that it's physically irksome.
This show demonstrates the importance of the judiciary. Notice how Naofumi never get a fair trial; there was no forensics, no investigation, no collecting of evidence. The King just declared him guilty on his accuser's word alone.
I'm just going to assume that either you've never suffered false accusations, or that you're the kind of immoral person who would lay false accusations. Either way, those are all the words you're worth.
