  • Crunch time. Will our old girl live to fight another day? We genuinely didn't know what to expect when we took her for an MOT.
Missed the first part? Here it is - • We Bought A 430,000+ M...
In case anyone is wondering and didn't see Part One, the clocks were changed in 2004 and this Volvo has almost been to the moon and back....we hope to take her there!

I remember the day my father brought me to the Volvo garage in 1990 to collect our 'new car'. At this point, I had only ever known old second-hand jobs, Talbot Horizons, Peugeots etc. And there, parked outside, with our surname printed on the reg plate, was a brand new Volvo 740 GLE in gun metal grey metallic, with grey leather, electric sunroof and the same wheels as yours. It was like another planet. That lap belt in the back was often my seat, as the youngest. One of the happiest memories of my life..

Absolutely stunningly beautiful. Cars pretty good too.

Lovely old volvo. Awesome cars, remember my father in law letting me loose with his 760 turbo I was bossing it. This was 1996.

People don’t realise how good these cars are, and incredibly robust. I was offered a 240 estate 1990 in a farm yard. It was covered in moss, mould all over the seats, and had been sat 2-3 years. It started with a new battery ( took a while) stale fuel, the hand brake was jammed and the shoes delaminated but no problem to do I drove it home ( on the trade insurance) cleaned it up and it was totally rust free and I drove it for 2 years. Cam belt was an hour’s work, did a clutch, easy job, really great car.

Last of the "Real" Volvos ..Superb car

  • @trigsretromotors

I cant believe it only failed on that one belt, what a proper car!

Love a BIG VOLVO. what a car. My V70 is a baby only 200,000 miles on a 06 plate.

Great video on an awesome car. I currently have the 740 estate 1991 face lift model. I must be the only person in the country, that that would love a face drop. Being a full time unpaid carer for our disabled daughter, this is but a dream. But on a positive vibe, we have a car that can be worked on by ourselves. Also now it has some degree of street cred.😊

    Gorgeous old swedish brick !

I'd forgotten the ball bearing device on the washers. When installed right, it stopped the water flowing back to the washer bottle out of the tubes. These 740s were full of little tricks.

There are people who make plates with the old dealer logos on them if you look about

Lovely car no computers, you had to fault find it yourself then fix it, I miss it a lot.❤🎉

  • @tgs2251

I had a C reg 740 man years ago. It was brilliant vehicle, very comfy and there was space to spread our 3 youngsters across the back seat and reduce a few of the squabbles!

  • @smcm7010

🤣My 'new' old 740 failed on the exact same thing. Went home and pulled up the rear seat and there was the belt... just wish had thought of that at the test centre.

    Your missus

  • @robertngreen6

What a result! Hopefully you can find a replacement to the missing belt soon. You can probably get a replica front number plate made up like the original! Looking forward to the next video and to wherever the Volvo takes you!

  • @st200ol

It won’t fail if the bonnet doesn’t open the MOT tester will not start the test as items can’t be checked such as top suspension mounts.

  • @scotty6346

Result! Get the lap belt sorted and the Volvo's a good un! Years left in that old crate!! Seriously the 700 series are great cars.

  • @justinsteel6360

Good old renault motors in old volvos

  • @JosephJackson-uf1iw

Great video, we used to run volvo estates, never knew when we would need the space for extra equipment. The final shot at the end shows some white bodyshells to the right. Presumably GRP for toy cars, do you have any info on them
