I was working for Ford of Europe in 1990 and Ford had a special offer on these - free insurance for the first year ! Can you imagine we were all 21 years old and this was like the gift of gifts ! We also had the employee discount on top of that. All my mates bought them new. I had a 2.8i Capri and the time, so the XR2i were known as 'toy cars'... the Capri being a proper man's car ha ha ha :) Anyway, they were great.
I remember.
Same here davyboy my mum used to work at Ford in Basildon and I had the employee discount and a years free insurance, small world, kind regards to you and take care Mark from Billericay 😃👍
Ah but remember the insurance is nothing like the young ones pay just now , I had ren 5 gt turbo for £300 per year . Never liked the fiesta xr2i but loved escort r/s turbo
I bought a Fiesta 1.6 s with free insurance in 1990 happy days !
I remember mine D667SKA (from new)- My old dad had a capri AAO433J (from new)
Perhaps offer the spares you want to scrap to the owners club. As you know with older cars it’s the silly things you can’t find and a bit of goodwill with the club would go a long way when you are looking for unobtanium
I would rather use a genuine second hand part, the new reproduction stuff just isn't as good
I’d give the new owner the option of having the spares instead of binning them…seems a waste
Yep considering he used his own time and money to find them
Rob & Chris, those classic words by most people: “I was going to do a nut & bolt restoration”……they just don’t understand how much work goes into doing exactly that!!! Another classic chaps!!!!
This is when cars were cars easy to work on now you have computers with wheels , lovely motor great find 👍👍👍
You can tell Chris hates old fords he just goes along for Rob's sake 🙄 🤣
Those old starter motors and alternators are worth a pretty penny on ebay because people like to have original parts!!!
Yet again your lack of greed is a joy to behold! A heck of a find, a heck of a car and a heck of a video…..excellent.
Laguna splitter a must have accessory back in the day 😁
100 percent
I had an H registered one of these in white and suffer from OCD. Used to clean under the spare wheel area with a toothbrush. No food, drinks allowed in car and it was kept in garage if it rained. We had to take the bus.Sold it for more than I paid for it. Used to give the teenagers in their souped up Vauxhall Nova's a run for their money.
You boys need to be on tv even though no one watches tv😂 best channel going, were you ever into 205 gti,s a think an extra to the channel would be the built up cars, especially the 2 fiestas drivin round the country roads so we could hear the old school motors sounds again 👍
Really can't see the attraction myself. But nice to pass it on to someone who will love it.
The highlight of my week Sunday’s and Wednesdays👍 I wish you had more time to do more videos, I know you tried 👍🙏
I used to buy motorcraft parts for my Fiestas and Escorts takes me back. Cars were so much simpler to work on back then. Good you got it running and nice project for someone.
In 1990 I wanted to upgrade from my 1987 XR2 in red to the newer 1990 XR2i model but my finances would not stretch by a few hundred pounds. I settled for a Vauxhall Nova 1.4SR instead. That was a bit of a mistake and to add insult to injury Ford discounted the XR2i price by about £500 two weeks after I bought the Nova. I really like Ford hot hatches of this era.
What a treat for a Sunday! Thanks guys. Being around 20 at the time I knew two people my age who had the 1.4S as it was easier on the Insurance, which despite inflation was still a lot back then!
Chris the red fiesta why don't you out some road tax in the car and take it to a vintage car show then that would help you guys to recruit more staff to work with you
13:08 is there no risk of a spark when you're connecting to the jump pack, next to that big open jug of petrol??
You can throw a lit cigarette on petrol…it does nothing
I had an 86 escort with that same engine. Fun watching you rebuild the interior Rob you really love those cars thank you gentlemen
86 escort would have been mfi 👍
Omg I had the gun metal grey one back in the day XR2i Think I paid no more than £500 for it had it when I was about 18 -19 year old I wish I never sold it now bring back so many memories first time I done over 110 mph in Mexico, of course lol few cruises to the seaside ect love it
Sell it for 4k and give chris a bonus, worth that all day given how solid it is
It's worth keeping the old parts to have reconditioned, retaining the original look.
Rob your taking me back in time with all those parts. I remember everything, 1.6 cvh . I can still hear the techno and the 6x9 on the parcel shel and the amp 👍
11.48 Laguna front splitters was fitted to everything back on the day. Got one in the garage too. God knows what I’m going to fit it to ?🤷🏻 great video guys 👍
A bit like buses, you wait for one and. . . . . It does prove that there are still some around that are not rot boxes. I think the young people whose era this was will be very happy to own this one and at a good price. I hope whoever buys it will get it resprayed straight away and take it to some shows because it deserves to be shown as a survivor. I think you have done the right thing with this car Rob you don't have the time as a company to do a full restoration so selling it on as a run and drive is wise. Take care Rob and Chris and thanks for the video. 👍👍
Remember that fantastic Ford Fiesta XR2i commercial, 105Horse, 1 Cat, No Bull.. why doesn't ford still do ads like that, pure brilliance, that was for the 16v version 1991 onwards 😊
I some times wonder about fords future ..
When I was at college we had a pre-launch XR2i donated by Ford with a prototype Zetec engine fitted which the later 1.8 versions came with. Still love the sound of a CVH though 😊
I can perfectly understand that smile on your face, Rob.
I feel the same when people are comming around in those old beauties. I love old and fast Fords, but absolutely not old VW's.
Fiesta's and Escorts are real cars. I had an Escort with a 130 hp engine. It showed it's rearwheels to a BMW. He couldn't believe that a Ford 1,6 could do that. I don't know who did the tune-up on it, but it was pure fun to drive.
Have fun with that Fiesta, and make some good money too. That's what it's all ut.about.
And I'm sure, that you guys will make that car nothing less than perfect.
Rare and perfect.
Lovely little car. I bought my first classic late last year: 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Edition in Ruby Red interior and exterior that had 19,300 original, documented miles! I’m the third owner, and it’s so much fun to drive!
I was hoping Chris would do a full repaint on this. It's begging for one. Come on Chris 😊😊
Chris face 😂thought he got away with you buying the turbo 😂 loving the chanel
Fantastic find chaps hope you are well, I had one of these I purchased new in August 1990 on a H plate it was so much fun to drive, if I remember rightly the seat fabric was called Zolda which was a hard wearing crushed velour, enough of my waffle for now kind regards Mark from Billericay 😃😃👍👍
It’ll be interesting to see Rob rebuilding this one and seeing him reliving his youth, nice one Rob, ps if you’d brought in an 80 year old lorry you might have seen Chris getting excited 😊
Great trip down memory lane thanks Guys hopefully it sells sure someone will love to restore 👍
Another lovely fast ford from the past 👌 you will have to get some more furry dice for it rob this will be a little belter when it's done 😊take care and stay lucky and healthy looking forward to Wednesday's video 📹 already 😊❤
Very nice barn find gents. This is a very desirable and scarce car.Hope you sell it very soon.
Hi Rob and Chris, great find and great purchase. Will be a fantastic project for someone. Alex.
Your playing a dangerous game with that battery pack and fuel 😳😳
Good morning Rob and Chris, great find , I remember them when I was younger. Someone is going to get a nice project. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
i think you should have stuffed it through an MOT. That would have increased your bottom line. Nice video. Thanks
Too right
Don’t bin anything until you offer it on the Ford groups, yes you can get reman but most want genuine parts
Nice one lads. Can't believe how much these are worth these days, like the old Nova SR that you could buy for £500 20+ years ago.. Should've kept loads of cars I've sold 😂
Instead of scrapping the alternators and starter motors, shouldn't you consider that some of your subscribers could perhaps make good use of them?
Scrapping em surely means weighing them in for the copper.
@@mikej557 instead of the few pence he will get in scrap, he could give them to subscribers that might need them. Apart from that, they are worth more as used parts than scrap, but obviously they don't need the money, so it doesn't matter to them.
@@mikej557 yes but the amount of copper in them is worth less than their secondhand value, but more than that, why destroy good spares somebody who is struggling for money could use.
That's a very noice nointeen nointy XR2i lol. Great find and looking forward to seeing this project. All the best from up north in Yorkshire 👍
Medway dialect 😅
19:58 Rob went all the way around the world in 8 seconds!!
Compound valve hemispherical head=CVH. Never forgot that from my days when i worked in the motor industry.
I had one the exact same colour & year wish I'd kept it now. Be worth a few quid when its finished. Nice one Lads 👍
The Renault Laguna splitter. The boy racers dream. I had one back in the day!!
Back in the day they were very "nickable". A couple of the staff at the company I ran both had two nicked.
Some years before that I had an Orion Ghia Injection - basically an XR3i with a boot, a real sleeper of a car - 4 door with XR3i performance. One of the best cars I've ever had.
I had a f reg xr2 when I was younger loved the little car it was immaculate gutted I sold for about £300 back then
Hello Rob and Chris,it's hard to find a car that solid nowadays, and original.that moment it starts Rob is very happy lol.with a respray it will be a nice motor.
Great video. So close to 300k subscribers. Well, deserved. Thanks chaps👍👍
Love XR2's had three in the 80's , just wish I had one of them now.
Never worth £6000 at auction. Very clean original examples with 70-80k miles are £7000. £3000 does seem like a reasonable price though.
i must be getting old ...i found the shed in the garden way more interesting than the car!!!!! not for me im more the 1600e or lotus cortina mk1 escort as there my age group !! did like that shed though........😂😂😂
Great as it is to see these old "classics" it doesn't half make me feel old, I was a yts trainee at a ford dealership when these first came out at least it's with someone who's going to mint it, greet video as always
Nice vid again guys, great find. Rob, with those lovely teeth and all you should audition for the Chippendale's mate😁
Enjoyed this one, good to see it driveable again. I was a bit horrified to hear that you will just scrap those spare starters / alternators (assuming they’re old OEM units). The new / pattern units you refer to available from Motor Factors are so often poorly made copies. Hate to see any good old cores / spares scrapped for nothing, but understand that your time (and Chris’s) is limited.
Crikey that’s one for auction once finished. People will pay a lot for that. I owned a white xr2 it was C reg and an absolute gem ! Good luck with that 👍
I had a grey ‘H’ reg one, which was a great car. Great find chaps! ❤
Not as much as its restoration will cost.
@@keithstapleton7805like I said it needs paint you can clearly see in the video it doesn’t need a restoration
Just listening to Diana Ross chain reaction looking at the paintwork on the 2 i
Great Video lads as always you always do a fantastic job on your projects 👍
I remember the fog lights were a favourite for getting nicked.
For me it has to be the Ford Fiesta Mark 1 XR2 I'd wished I owned one ford got it spot on but enjoyed your video on the Mark 3 Fiesta XR2 Chris and Rob keep the videos coming there getting better 👍👍
Good call - best bought by someone who can do a good respray "in his own time". Might have been different of you had your own full spray capability but the time needed for a respray would still be a major cost to any professional operation.
That engine sounds like a mouse chewing a bit of paper😀🐁🐁
What a car. If only I had the time and space. I’d love to have seen you put it through your classic auction. Great video as always
Fantastic find Rob, someone will enjoy that project , absolutely well done yet again.
Love your reactions to finding that car like all your Christmas at once
Sat for that long, a bit of love and attention fired back to life.Gives you a smile.
Wow that is cheap guy's I'd absolutely love it I really would but funds are tight but thank you for the video 👌👌👌
Great little car. I love those wheels. 34 years old and looks the ducks guys! Here in Australia we didn't get any of these Fords you are picking up. Our 1990 Fiesta was a rebadged Mazda 121 that was as bland as a can of beige paint. Infact in the mid 80s through the 90s all our Fords were Mazda's. You didn't mention engine capacity; 1.3? Discs all round on the XR2? Anyway, loved the video. I hope this car goes to a good home for a great future.
My dad used too repair Ford cars ,, I remember a Ford escord he had ... he used too say Ford is a acronym fix or repair daily ,, all in all cars like these are a rare find and awsome classic
Lovely little motor, had a black Xr2 from new, loved it. CVH engine, worked on so many, when I was a Ford mechanic.
Really enjoyable video, gents. Thank you. She’s worth every penny at £3K, imo.
It looks tidy but wats it like behind the body kit as they rot badly behind thats why alot of got scrapped and like any ford because of the demand has made them go for silly money i was going to get a project as a daily car as welding and fabrication not a problem but im not going to bother and look at different like a vauxhall i bet you are smiling when you have made a nice profit when the car and parts are sold and don't blame you 😅
Nostalgia. Cars of my youth. Rob/Chris, I really enjoy your videos but the old Ford ones are the best. I would make a large offer for this if it wasn't for money, space, time and wife! 🤣Keep up the good work.
Great old classic, really nice in white as well
Every one loves a classic Ford video the 90's were similar to the way people talked about the 60's great times good people and you'd be lucky to have insuraced on a family Volvo
Image if one of the mainstream TV car programs no names, bought the car off you! They would probably take everything for a little extra. Those spare parts are worth something to someone, so don't scrap. I can see a bidding war on this, even though you have set a price.
Ah the memoires of my old 1990 Xr2i in white, my first proper hot hatch, ended up being scrapped due to rust, wish I had kept it now!!
My 18th birthday I had a toss up between an XR2i and a R5 GT Turbo at the local car dealer. Ended up with the French car, but still have a soft spot for these. That was getting on for 30 years ago. Good to see another survivor.
Seriously picked a gt 5 over one of these lol raced a wee guy in a gt5 left it sitting wasn't you was it lol
@@PaulWilky-x6r Was young and preferred the looks of the GT Turbo at the time, lucky to even have the choice of either when relatively new. Pretty sure the R5 GTT was quicker than an XR2i too? I mean this was 1997.
It's a shame that Mr khan doesn't share your enthusiasm for rolling restorations
Like the reflection on the 08 beamer to the 98 ford..they sure were the days. 💯😎👍
chuck an MOT on it rob, if it passes, put the price up...
if it fails, people know exactly what they are getting...
keep it up chaps
Left my XR2i on Billet Road Walthamstow for 2 weeks back in 2004.... came back to pick it up.... GONE. Havent seen it since.
What a peach takes me back to my apprenticeship days blinding little cars I had a black xr2i and loved it ❤
Great video lads, reminded me of when I had a XR2i in white with the pepper pot wheels.👍
Definitely would have put it through an MOT. Even if it failed, it wouldnt be much and would look good for any buyer knowing the limited list it probably needs
as long as your arm probably wishbones rack ends fuel lines brakes etc
Shows these old cars are still out there doesn't it. My mate bought a MK3 Fiesta last year with a verified 6K on it.
must of had new wings as there the later ones. should have square repeaters on it
Can't believe the cambelt doesn't get checked before turning the key 😵
I can remember when I was last in the UK 🇬🇧 I had three of those Fiesta's, ALL were brand new 30 years ago from rental companies. One in London, one in Jersey and another from Gatwick.
Holidays from long ago 😊❤
Great find cars should go back to being like this loved this era nothing will ever be as good for sure.
My dad traded in his mk5 Cortina against an identical 18 month old XR2i in 1993 ..... it felt spaceage at the time
This will make a superb project for someone and with plenty left in it for them👍👍👍
I love the old fiestas, my first car was an L reg petrol blue coloured one my dad got cheap at the auctions and it was a brilliant car for years, my sister had it after me and eventually it needed too much welding to pass an mot sadly.
I had a new one in 1990.....it was stolen and smashed up by joyriders in 1993....
...Bob....Paignton.......
Sorry Rob I love ford's for the interiors vans especially apart from that the build quality today is shocking you can nearly watch them rot infront of your eyes in the drive way not even to mention the wet belt!! These days & insurance is through the roof 😒 👍
dipped in for this Rob .. brilliant.
Hello both, very interesting to see you get this car running and interior re-fitted. What a great project car for someone. Best wishes from Lincolnshire
I think you should get it painted and then sell it on
These fetch serious bucks
Local car to you Rob and Chris, having a Brighton Registration. Will make a great project for someone.
