- I analyzed over 1000 attempts of streamers trying to defeat Rellana in Shadow of the Erdtree to see how fast they could learn her moves.

So fun fact the reason this at 20:55 happens is cause all enemies and bosses have a defualt move they use to break objects like boxes so they dont get stuck on obstacles. For most enemies/bosses this is normally just a generic slash move or something but FOR SOME REASON Rellanna has her default box breaking move as HER PHASE 2 TRANSITION.
So yea watch out for her getting too close to those spears set up on the side of the arena or her new chair from soft added with the recent update lol.
I have a feeling that since Rellana is never realistically going to get stuck in her arena, someone decided it would be funny if they chose her phase 2 transition as her box breaking move

Something important to point out is that the funny lion hat that forsen is wearing lowers the amount of hp flasks restore.
Legit healing 8 hp per flask

It reduces you crimson flask healing by 11% which brings a +12 flask down to basically a +8. That's a big difference.@@anonisnoone6125

@@pandoshamdawg that what I did, and spent like, straight up DAAAAYS fighting Bayle with my guy Igon, and finally won, then went and steamrolled Rellanna in just a few tries. I was so confused by the online frustration towards her until I realized how overleveled for her I was lol

Idk battle wasent that hard for me, I felt like everything was telegraphed well enough to reaction roll them and his head was near the ground unlike other dragons making it pretty chill.
I thought the lightning dragon before him was harder tbh
This little anime girl Bijou has just a nerves of steel and an unbreakable mentality. Fighting naked with resists debuff and using magic/physical dmg weapon with only magic dealing AoW against resistant to magic boss is pretty hard.
Bijou is built different. She loves FROM games and this was her second Elden Ring playthrough (obviously the first with the DLC). Both were challenge runs, as in the first she only allowed herself to use "stone"-themed gear (since she's supposed to be a personified jewel), and this time it a cosplay run as DMC's Vergil.
Earlier the year she did a Sekiro run with both of the challenge modifiers from ringing the bell and giving up Kuro's charm.

You should tho. When you stop having the mentality of "oh i need to kill this boss as fast as possible" and just accept that you're trash and can better, all the bosses become easy. I would've crashed put playing sekiro if i didn't have this mentality

You're FANTASTIC! I have similar thoughts but unfortunately, a lot of the ideas are just unfathomable especially due to time constraints. Marking down each attack that hits would be one thing, but that's so unrealistic that I have to settle for killing moves. Same goes for adding more streamers or analyzing play styles, heal patterns, aggressiveness and the likes! Once I am done with this particular series though, I'll try and brainstorm some other ideas that hopefully will also entertain the people who gave me their trust!

This is such a great video. The only thing I wish you had included was talking about parrying her. Because I feel like a lot of her difficulty is negated for those that can parry her out of the combos.
It seems like nobody he studied went that route. This isn't necessarily meant as a guide on what you should do, but an analysis on what streamers did.

Let me describe my fight against Rellana if I were featured in this video:
"This player had rune level ~140 5-6 blessing level and wielded +22 Zweihander with keen affinity. He tried to brute force Rellana, to poise through her attacks using hyperarmor of charged R2s. Before each hit he buffed the sword with RKR ash of war to get the most value of it. The damage was tremendous 4-5k because of the Spear talisman equipped which increases counter damage. Rellana's moon arc spam after the phase change was probably in response for the most amount of deaths. Dozens of game-overs due to greed and over confidence but eventually he got the win!"

That boss gave me the old feeling of being proud of myself. I really felt the difficulty spike and it was nice to struggle against a high wall but still doable.
Consort Radahn was extremely hard but absolutely bullshit at the same time (the second phase).

I can't wait for your stats on Messmer and your analysis at the end of this series versus perception. I really thought Rellana was easier in general than the lion but apparently it was just me. Enlightening
Really liked these videos and glad to see another. I would be interested in seeing a statistical analysis of the performance of more dedicated Souls streamers, like distortion, bushy, aggy, star0chris, captain domo, or ginomachino, to name a few, and contrasting them with the variety streamers- especially the ones like Kai and Ludwig, who wanted to beat the DLC as quickly as possible.
I imagine the numbers could be a bit harder to find out for some of the pros. Gino for example intentionally kept most bosses alive until he fully mastered them and would have probably only needed a handful of tries if he didnt train on his casual run.
The living document that is the leaderboard at the end of the video is absolutely the coolest part

I see a lot of people complaining about her high aggressiveness and long combos and I don't really get it. In my opinion it was super fun learning all of her moves so that you could react instantly whenever she cancels or continues a combo. And her high aggressiveness just makes her harder and in turn, more fun. Honestly top 5 bosses in the entire game for me, only outshined by Goatfrey, Melania and Messmer

This was such a fun but long fight for me, got to the point where my first clear was practically no-hit. Very satisfying to finally memorize her dodge timings

Imagine a dual boss fight where you have to face Rellana and Rennala with Renalla at her peak.😅
This is the most fun bos in the dlc, maybe even in the game. Her timings are tough but fair, and they all have many different counters. She can be parried, everything can be dodged, most attacks can be jumped, and she has very fair spacing too. Not to mention that this character jumps back herself, allowing you to heal up if you've made mistakes in some exchanges. I wish there were more Rellana like enemies in this game
While I do enjoy these videos, I still don't believe that analyzing the killing move helps us find the most troublesome move. The finishing move is often just a consequence of the trouble that was started by a different move. Just wanted to mention that. Now ignore my party pooping and enjoy the video :)

Wow considering myself a somewhat veteran soulsborne player, I'm humbled by how good some of these primarily non-souls streamers are doing in the dlc. Guess playing video games for a living really does account for something in terms of skills. Or maybe I'm just trash hahaha. I actually fought Rellana as my first real boss with +4 fragments, and died like...at least somewhere between 40-60 times to her? Dancing Lion maybe 10. I think having the full estus amount with +12 makes a huge difference. I was lazy setting up for the DLC, and had only 11 flasks with +8 when fighting the first bosses. I went back to get more seeds and sacred tears, and it made a huge difference.

Your explanation of her entire moveset is better than any wiki that lists her moves. that section should be cutout and embedded on the wiki page for the boss. I suspect there are MANY players learning her who would really benefit from it

I've been co-oping this boss since week one and at least 95% of all hosts die at the "twin moon drop". It is the defining moment of the fight.

honestly, the thing standing out to me still is how insane it is that almost everyone here went into the DLC without fully upgraded flasks

I went into the DLC on my first run at NG+4 and it was bruuutal
Shrouds actually cracked at every game he plays. He says "I could never" while playing a souls game on a keyboard and 4 trying Rellana.
Fourskin saying easy after fighting is so freakin funny
She did kinda jumpscare me with unexpected difficulty, but learning how to actually fight Rellana was fun, and people getting pissy online was a whole new layer of comedy. Delayed attacks and long combos are getting to you? My brother in Marika, did you forget what game you're playing? Did you expect Asylum Demon moveset?
Input-reading whiners were also a fun breed, because heal-punish has been a thing at least since Gwyn - speedrunners actually abuse it for a reliable parry-loop.
I died 46 times to her (2nd most behind Radahn) on my first playthrough using the backhand blades with level 2 scadu, but now I can beat her fairly consistently. Not to diminish their skills, but I noticed that the people who did really well tended to have high damaging weapons that could easily stagger her like Golden Halberg, Bloodfiend Arm, Giant Crusher, Impaling thrust milady, and Great stars. I didnt get a single stagger the entire fight 😭 Still my favorite boss in the entire dlc though.

She doesn't flinch. She just... eats the hits and combos you forever. Giant Crusher heavies, Great Spear counter-attack thrusts... she just WON'T BLOODY FLINCH

That's just how it is for most bosses in the souls series, it sucks how most bosses have 0 player feedback from hits.

This skinny lady who divided all her levels between INT, FTH, STR, and DEX, whose armor barely cracks 50 poise - she doesn't even blink at 5 fully charged giant crusher heavies? Naaaahhhh
@@Spahki because she's poorly designed on a visual level. Jori is the same way and it makes no sense why a skinny little mage is unflinching against my attacks.

It took me 3 tries, mostly because her fight reminded me of the one in Carian. The first time I died I just didn't know what to expect and didn't reach the moon phase. The second time was because I didn't know what to do during the moon phase. The third time I finally got it after I jumped during the moon phase and realized how to kill her.

Rellana is teaching you how to use the new light great sword category
I fought her again just this week, and honestly the Deflecting hardtear feels so good in this fight, letting you keep up with her aggression. Except when she decided to pull out the phase 2 High Phalanx and then followed it immediately with the Twin Moons slam. My options were to jump the first slam, get Phalanxed, and die from the next two slams; or dodge the Phalanx, and get hit by all three slams and die. That was fun :)

13:06 Man, that’s just nuts. I’d think Bayle would be a tougher boss. Funnily enough, I beat Rellana first, then fought Bayle, and saw just how unprepared I was for Bayle. So… I got stronger by exploring more areas.

Even though this is a passion project, it's still tough to find the motivation sometimes! You got this, I'm right there with you
I think it's more about how the boss matches your playstyle and build. For example, I'm using a black steel greathammer faith and strength build at level 100 and died more than 50 times to the Dancing Lion even though I was using both Freyja and mimic tear, but when I went to Rellana right after I killed her on my first try without any summons. I didn't even get to see her special attack that I've seen on videos
Honestly interesting to see that people died way more in phase 1 than 2. The majority of my deaths ended up being in phase 2 cause I was kinda running a glass cannon build, I could burst her through phase 1 really fast, but ended up dying a lot in p2.

I love these videos, really puts into perspective how different strategies effect how easy/hard bosses are.
I predict that Mesmer will have a much lower total death count, he doesn't have much health so killing him is easy.
HIDDEN CHALLENGE MODE ACQUIRED! Force Rellana to enter phase 2 at full health... THEN fight her.
Bruh I dont think I ever died 100 times on a boss, I cant imagine going for 200+ attempts holy shit
