    Get away from the crowds on this San Bernardino East Peak hike that climbs up the Forsee Creek Trail, meanders along the breathtaking Bernardino Peak Divide Trail, then heads back to the start on the primitive and secluded John’s Meadow Trail. It’s a tough hike with a fair amount of climbing, but the scenery and ruggedness of the San Gorgonio Wilderness make it well worth it. I usually do this as a loop hike in a day, but there are several camping options if you want to make it an overnighter.

    Did this hike 10-18-2023. We did this clockwise as your video does and it's a very beautiful hike with great peaks and fantastic views. The turn-off to the John Meadows section, just past Gerhardt Peak, is completely gone and no trace of trail at the junction exists; no sign, no trail, no marker. We were getting close to the end of the day and had no real choice but to venture out on this trail using GPS. Fortunately we had downloaded your GPX file and with our GIAI app it was only moderatley hard to navigate (without having a GPS guide, do not attempt this section). While we could find several sections of the trail it was hit and miss and there were a few areas in a steep section that were a bit scary to traverse as the trail was completely gone and it was hard to get a good footing; poles highly recommended if attempting this area. Just before Forsee Creek we began to see pink ribbons tied to trees and it seemed to indicate areas where the trail is being rebuilt. Once we crossed Forsee Creek, the trail came back and we could navigate without using constant GPS (in my opinion they are re-establishing this trail from the bottom and currently working in the area just past Forsee Creek as you head up). Thanks for all your guides, details, photos and especially your GPX files as this saved the day for us on our hike this day. Avid followers of you and when we do a SoCal hike, your online guides are the first place we goto for info. Thanks!

    Hi Cris. I am really enjoying your website, and TH-cam channel... I have switched my purchase habits by using your links. Have you been up in this area since the El Dorado fire? I am planning on doing this loop within the next two weeks...

      Haven't been but last I heard the John's Meadow trail is not good, I'd do Forsee Creek to the summit and back

    Awesome video, guide, and journey! I was planning on doing this in October to hit Anderson Peak and San Bernardino East (and maybe San Bernardino Pk.). I have been wanting to hit the Forsee Creek Trail for a cool minute. There must be huge pines and firs on that trail!

      Should be great in Oct, and yea, Forsee is good, a couple of trees across the trail but nothing crazy. Just lots of beauty.

    Are you allowed to camp at the summit?

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Today it's closed and now in the SGWA you need to camp at designated campsites. There was a time when you could camp there though.

    Funny coincidence. I just did this hike this past weekend. When were you there? I turned it into a long weekend by staying at Limber Pine Bench and then Trail Fork Springs.

    Do you think this is comparable to the conventional San B Peak hike in terms of subbing it in in the six pack of peaks? I will always opt for a less crowded hike if possible, but I also don’t feel knowledgeable enough to tweak the training regimen on my own. Thanks!

    • @Hikingguy
      @Hikingguy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yea, you can sub it in for sure. You can hit the regular San Bernardino Peak this way too. The "normal" route to San B is really nice, but like you said, crowded. This one will do the job without the crowds. Plenty safe, probably a little bit tougher (and about 2 miles longer).

      I don't know the current snow conditions but yea, if you can get a permit, worth a try. If it gets hairy, just turn around. You'll have to do an out an back to the peak, the return loop is still closed.
