@@Videogamelover58 it's quite insane not just for the terrible platforming but also really really hard enemy encounters. The checkpoints are forgiving but it still should not have been as hard.
The combat in this game was the most satisfying ever. Just remembered it existed and scoured the web to find the name and here we are! Cheers for the vid.
Playing the game on hardest difficulty (named as _Bujingai: Swordmaster_ , European version I guess... and the difficulties had to be unlocked), enemy A.I.s are a bit better. Meaning, the fancy _swordplay_ mechanic actually can lead to long sword-fighting matches when both the player and enemy-npc tries to feint, dodge, or counterattack past the choise of the opposing fighter. It could actually take time before any of the both could make actual dmg. Haven't seen as good, and the same time as flashy, sword-fighting mechanics in any game before or after...
I never truly understood how the clash mechanic worked... the game just goives it a name and says noting about what you do how you win etc. I'd be very interested to learn how it actually functions, here I mostly just mashed and somehow came out on top most of the times.

Combat in this game was so fun. It reminds of onimusha, even though both games are very different but it reminds me in the sense that even just doing the repetitive slashing on enemies because you were consuming orbs that you can use to level up certain things, it gave me a reason to defeat all the enemies and not bore me. I replayed this game recently and I gotta say the real problem with Stage 7 isn't how it's designed. It's actually more that none of the stages prior to it ever force you in scenarios where you'd need to use and learn all the platforming mechanics in this game. Prior to Stage 7 all platforming challenges can be solved by wall running, you never need to glide, jump off of walls or even learn how jumping off walls works depending on how you're holding the controls. Once you get to Stage 7 you're tested on all the platforming skills you never built and you basically have to learn it in a very frustrating scenario where every mistake costs you a bit of life and enough mistakes make you reset a room. The platforming mechanics themselves, while stiff, work once you know how to use them and stage 7 starts to make sense... And it took me about 6 playthroughs of that stage spread across multiple years to understand how those mechanics work mind you.
Man this game boots like nothing I've ever seen before, I just started playing it for the first time & thought it was broken to just jump straight into gameplay like that 😂 I had to check here to make sure I wasn't going crazy, they must have used the introductory logos as a mask for the loading screen cause mine didn't say "now loading" I tell you what though, it screams Devil May Cry ripoff, from the door seals, to how the door seals dissappear after defeating enemys, even the graphic when you walk in a door, and it does that motion blur kinda zoom 😂 idc though cause the games sweet
It's allot of fun till you get to stage 7, which is cancer, but everything else is allot of fun. The placement of that stage is also evil it's right at the end and if you've gotten that far you ain't gonna give up anymore
You deserved a Rank D playstyle, your combos are worst, dont you know that if bring the enemy in the air then start combo, their shields or parry is very slow to regenerate.
