This looks really neat! It's much more simple than the other tutorials I watched, as I'm not very experienced in sewing. I cant wait to use this for my Aziraphale cosplay!
Very nice!! I often make bowties to match prom & other gowns. But make the bow on the adjustable band as most guy just can’t tie them. I think I’ll make some of these with gown fabric & have them on hand. Thank you, Katie
Loved everything about it! Great choice in fabric! The scale is totally off and that rocks!!! And nice touch with the hand sewing! Makes a huge subtle difference! I’ll have to remember that! I’m a street vendor and sell purses I make! I’m looking to find something simpler to create and sell! I’m in KEy West and I think the snow bird fellas’ will love quirky tropical inspired bow ties. I’m glad I found you! Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!!!!
Hey there Danielle! Thank you so much for watching, and I am glad you liked the tutorial! Funny story, I used to be a vendor in Ottawa Canada's By Ward Market. I sold handmade bags as well! Mine were reversible tote bags, but I relate to the problem of needing a quick sell item for those "spur of the moment $5.00 customers" Good luck! I hope your new products sell out!
Loved this tutorial! I just stated making bow ties! You can use an air compressor to invert fabrics with grip :) going to try out the hand stitch finish!!! Did not realize that was possible!
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I usual use slides for my bow ties but I'd like to try this style. Did I miss that link for the pattern piece and dimensions?
Works better if you apply interface to the back side of the fabric then draw the bowtie pattern on the interface and sew directly on top of the line. More even pattern is made and it is more uniform and easier to sew. Takes the guess work out so all patterns are exactly the same.
I couldn't find a downloadable pattern so I made my own - if you pause the clip at the beginning when the pattern is against the marked cutting board you can see the correct dimensions - make sure you have the cutting board imperial side up though and not metric
Good call on the interfacing! Great for a more structured look. The benefit of no interfacing in this situation is that it gave the bow tie a more casual look. Thanks for watching!
This comment is the only reason I didn’t give up on the idea of seeing a bow tie. Thank you!!! I had no idea how to start with the length so I’m really happy I came across your comment!
Hey Kim, I haven't got a pattern for it. I looked on all of my hard drives. Perhaps I will revisit this in the future and make a physical pattern. Until then, I would trace over an existing bow tie if you have one, or search for a template on google, or Pinterest. Good Luck! xoxo Laura
Going to make one for myself now using this pattern of material!. I wear regular ties a lot, but been getting into bow ties a lot lately. The skill of tying one, you made look very simple and easy to get right here!.😎👍😊
There are just a few changes I would make. Make sure you are tracing and cutting from fabric at a 45 degree angle. This is to extend the life of the tie and keep it from stretching. Add interfacing to each piece as well to give it more structure and durability. It will make your tie look more substantial, make it easier to tie, and all around make a better end result.
Hey Jazz, there are many available online, but what I did was trace a bowtie I already had, and then I added 1cm additional fabric, all around the stencil!
Patterns are available online, some free, others for a few dollars. Just google "bow tie pattern" or something like that. OR....if you have a bow tie already, just trace it out.
I'm glad you've found the video useful. As for measurements, I will try to add them in the future videos. You could extrapolate your own measurements as this project was one-of-a-kind creation type of project. Wonderful Holidays!
there is no adjustment so it may be too long or too short after it is tied?? Too late to make an adjustment at that point without cutting and resewing it.
Thanks Frank - I will keep it in mind for future bow tie projects. This one-of-a-kind project was made with Alex's help for measurements while I was making it. Cheers!
This was a good tutorial, but the way you pinned and cut your fabric hurt my soul. You shouldn’t cut in the middle of the fabric and there are much easier ways to pin your fabric so you don’t have to trace it. It will be easier for you to see if you put the pins on the other side (so you take them out with your right hand), and you shouldn’t see over your pins; it’s bad for your machine and can break the needle. You should also do a zigzag stitch next to the straight stitch instead of doing two straight stitches, this prevents fraying. You can also use pins to get the corners out, it helps a lot. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be critical, just trying to help. Thanks for the tutorial :)
Your music is much too loud; it overpowers your voice. Also when you use fabric for demonstrating the not to use so many colors in fabric(flowerdy) because it makes it difficult to see and fo!like your instructions. And...when you draw a a pencil it sho be done in the wrong side off the fabric. Otherwise you're good!
Best video ever. I wish your video was the first to come up instead of the others that were just not as good. Thank you!
great tutorial, thank you... AND your bow tying instructions at the end were better than many of the dedicated bow-tying vids!! brava
Oh wow that’s so sweet thank you!
I love how simply you did this. Nice and clear explanation and easy to follow.
This looks really neat! It's much more simple than the other tutorials I watched, as I'm not very experienced in sewing. I cant wait to use this for my Aziraphale cosplay!
Whoa this is exactly what I'm using it for
This was so well explained. Thank you! My first bow tie took 4 hours. I messed up a lot too. Wish I'd seen your video first! :)
Thanks for the kind words Fernando. I'm glad that this video was helpful to you. Cheers!
I like your technique. Wh😢y you didn't put interfacing on one side of the fabric?
I love this video!! I'm glad you showed an easy way to turn it right-side out!
Thanks Lee! I am so glad you liked it

Thanks for adding such a lovely and fruitful video
Thanks for the wonderful words Areeb! Have a good day and pleasant holidays!

Thanks for the kind words Louis. Have fun with the hand stitch finishing!
Hi !!!
I made my bow tie , without sewing machine ...just hand sewing , in one hour .
It turn out great .
Thanks !!!
i love this video!! I'm going to try making it tomorrow, thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing this tutorial. I usual use slides for my bow ties but I'd like to try this style. Did I miss that link for the pattern piece and dimensions?
Thank you for watching Portia!
Wow, so easy. Gonna give it a try now
Thank you! I hope it turns out great.
This is a great tutorial, but left me with one question: how do you decide the length, and where to place the bow shape?
I would like to know this as well
I love it... thank you for the tutorial... but I have one question... how do you put it on?
What do you mean?
Works better if you apply interface to the back side of the fabric then draw the bowtie pattern on the interface and sew directly on top of the line. More even pattern is made and it is more uniform and easier to sew. Takes the guess work out so all patterns are exactly the same.
👍👍👍👍
Easy peasy! Can't wait to try. How long is the fabric though?
Thanks for watching. I will keep your suggestions in the future videos and try to add dimensions. Cheers & Happy Holidays!

To make this self-tie bowtie fit, measure neck and add 19" to it. Perfect! 😀 Also, it needs some interfacing to add body.
Good call on the interfacing! Great for a more structured look. The benefit of no interfacing in this situation is that it gave the bow tie a more casual look. Thanks for watching!
Good to know
This comment is the only reason I didn’t give up on the idea of seeing a bow tie. Thank you!!! I had no idea how to start with the length so I’m really happy I came across your comment!
Thank you! Length and where to start the bow shape we’re the only questions I still had after watching.
where did you get the template for the bow tie? i can't find a good one
Muito obrigado! Eu gostaria de usar só esse tipo de gravata para ir ao trabalho, mas elas são difíceis de achar para comprar.
Great video instruction! May I please have the pattern/template? Really clear information. TY.

where could I find this stencil?
Hey Jazz, there are many available online, but what I did was trace a bowtie I already had, and then I added 1cm additional fabric, all around the stencil!
Woah. Beautiful
Where can we get the pattern to trace on fabric
Exactly that’s what I’m wondering
I suppose you could try printing a screenshot of the video and making a trace? Let me know how it goes! Cheers
Patterns are available online, some free, others for a few dollars. Just google "bow tie pattern" or something like that. OR....if you have a bow tie already, just trace it out.

Oh wait I don’t think you were seeing over your pins, I think it was just sped up and looked that way.
