- Here is the thrilling conclusion of my video series on how to make an adjustable self-tie bow tie.
I make these out of rose fabric (cotton) to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research to help my niece (the nickname for CF is 65 Roses- did you notice they sound the same?). The basic template, which I have modified (watch the video!) comes from Sew Like My Mom, and excellent blog: sewlikemymom.co... . My addition is to make it adjustable to fit all sizes (assembly will be in part 3)
In this video: Pressing and assembling your bow tie. Enjoy!!
PS the adjustors I used can be found at the SewingSupplies Etsy Store:

I have been trying to find a video that uses a rotary tool forever!!!!! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much! Your tutorial is very easy to follow. You make it so simple.
Is the interfaced side towards the front or is the interfaced side on the back/
?
Is there somewhere you can buy JUST the adjuster clips? I can't seem to find anything but the 3-piece sets that includes the hook and eye that would be on a pre-tied tie and just one adjuster. Suggestions?
Ian- if you check the description on my video you can find a link to where I got just the adjusters on Etsy- it was a pack of about 50 or so, but did not include the hook you are talking about. She may have smaller packs......
+BexterDesigns Thanks. I had checked part 1 & 2, but not part 3 :)
Thank you!! Just what I was looking for.
I made some bow-ties with the original pattern but I was looking for a pattern to make them adjustable.
Is it possible to tell me how long you made the 'long' piece? I can't really see properly (cause I work in cm's) ...
Mylan- apologies for the delay in replying. In centimeters, I make the shorter side about 44 cm, and the longer side 65-68 cm. Hope this helps!
good work!
Hello, I have a question on your video. When you say "have the side without the interfacing out." Do you mean that the interfacing is facing up?
Its difficult to see what loop you are putting the end through.
Where did you buy your adjusters??
Why is your adjuster all the way behind the bow tie in the end?
What type of sewing machine are you using?
It looks and sounds exactly like my Janome Magnolia. Great machine.
What a painful way to make a bow tie. Best to iron on the interfacing to the reverse side of the material then lay the finished size of the bow tie pattern on the fabric and trace the outline on the interfacting. Then all you have to do is sew the stitching right on the line to make it perfect. Once that is done simply cut out the bow tie from the fabric leaving an 1/8 to 3/16 inches all the way around. Next reverse the bow tie and use a knitting needle or semi-pointed chop stick to smooth out the edges. Best way to secure the back is to use a 3 piece clip readily available at a sewing shop. If you use this type of closure or even velcro you can tie the bow tie and never have to untie it again. Simple undo the clip or velcro and it's ready to wear next time. This is a big time saver since you dont have to painfully retie the bow tie each time you want to wear it.
What size adjusters are you using? Thanks.
Lula Belle She said 3/4s in the video.
I have the sewing machine as you if you start your stitches off in the middle instead of on the edge your stitches will not catch and look funky
What neck size are you making????
This makes an adjustable size from 15" to I believe alsmost 20", I haven't made one in a while. If you need longner, simply make one or both sides longer.
What size adjusters did you use?
Kim-Loy Chung she said 3/4’s in the video.
Can I order one from you? I never sewed anything. You make it look easy but it is a lot harder than it looks. So, can custom order one from you. I can order and send you the fabric.
