    »Alva Noto: Xerrox Selected«
    // ABOUT THE CONCERT
    A slow sequence of high-tension string chords, as dark and cold as an icy desert: Alva Noto wrote the music for the Oscar-winning feature film »The Revenant«, together with Ryūichi Sakamoto. The soundtrack placed him firmly at the epicentre of the international music world.
    Behind the pseudonym Alva Noto is the visual artist, composer and musician Carsten Nicolai. Whether it’s film projects, album productions with Michael Nyman and Blixa Bargeld, installations for the Guggenheim Museum, the Venice Biennale or documenta - Carsten Nicolai is always seeking out energy in reduced forms. His multi-genre works often feel condensed down to the essence of an expression. Minimalist and yet infinitely mighty. Alva Noto’s Xerrox Project is also an all-encompassing audiovisual experience - where he explores the inherent life of replications. In a magical metamorphosis, copies keep adapting to ever greater extents from one another. Collaborating with the stargaze ensemble and André de Ridder, Alva Noto has leading lights by his side as he crosses the boundaries between electronic and orchestral music. The ensemble has played with Nils Frahm, Soap&Skin, Owen Pallet and others - as well as being the artists behind the compelling string melodies in the soundtrack to »The Revenant«.

    Magnificient Concert it was.
    Unfortunately, the conductor's monitor was a bad idea for the front rows, as it placed all instruments sitting on the right aurally to the left center of the stage. It was disturbing, especially during low volume sequences of said instruments.
    Alltogether, it narrowed the whole of the orchestral sound, which was meant to be wide spread, to a relatively centered event. I pittied that.
    But I guess, the effect faded with distance from the stage.
    Just think this setup over for the next show, please.

    How I love these compositions, so deep and so atmospheric, like the depth of Arctic panoramas. I admire Carsten Nicolai and the musical orchestra who performed these compositions! How I would like to be in this hall! I think after the concert, the goosebumps wouldn't go away for at least another week!

      @@ElbphilharmonieHamburg, I can understand that you had to act quickly for licensing reasons and decided to cut that segment. I was at the concert and, until the video was available in its entirety, I regularly came back to it to enjoy once again the unbeliavable complexity of emotions that last piece was able to carry. Multiple times a day even. It really was a gift that people deserve in their lives, not just us that were at the concert or watching the live stream. Is there anything we can do to support you so you're allowed to share it again?

    Interesting, this is actually something generative one would use a modular synth for. Except in this case most sounds are real instruments.
