Stock seat is fine for short rides. Took a long ride (7 plus hours) and it was bothersome. Going to replace mine and I will be removing the strap. Thanks for the videos.
First thing ,or one of the first things i did was remove the strap, In my mind and me missus who sits there useless,we are thinking of "customizing" the seats not quite sure original HD or go to a seat maker to put some gel in there and do some nice stiching. Both about the same price too.
Why can't H-D make metal seat bases so that you can drill a couple of holes on either side of the pillion seat base and the strap be pop riveted into the holes. That's what I did with the strap on my old Benelli 900 Sei, but it has a metal base. I suppose the Harley's plastic base isn't strong enough for a pillion to hold onto the strap without it breaking the plastic thus pulling out the rivets.

You’re welcome cheers
Thanks Alf, just about to remove my seat for the first time, that kinky strap is a pain.
Thanks for the video. I futzed with it for a few minutes, then googled, found your video, 30 seconds later, success

For me it was simple deduction on my 19 SG after tussling with my first seat removal I removed that useless strap.
I wondered how that worked...now I know...good video cheers👍
Glad it helped
Did the same when I bought the bike, its never going to get used so bin it, you know it makes sense.👍.
Very helpfull. Having hardtime thinking how to remove my seats hahahaha
Glad it helped! Cheers
Can you replace that plastic clip with a metal circlip? I think I'll just cut the strap.
Can I spoilt the seat and keep the solo only ?
Hello Alf.
How do I install a seatback for the rider?
Thanks for the tips, they are worth gold!!
Cheers. You will need to get a docking kit and then attach the seat back sissy bar or rack to it.
Done, looks better to. Cheers!
Can you remove the passenger seat and keep the drivers seat?
that would be a different type of seat required. You can buy a solo seat or there are some tow up two piece seats which you can get too. Cheers
I think I'll just cut the strap then take the seat off then remove what's left of the strap.

Yep, gel inserts would be a good way to go for sure
Yep strapless here also Alf 👍
Quella cinghia per legge deve esserci poiché sarebbe l'appiglio del passeggero, e serve anche per fissare meglio la sella, cosa molto importante
Nice.. I guess now that I have seen the Vid its probably easier to cut the strap if its never going back>> Thanks
You bet, cheers

Not sure. Prob cause they’re already heavy enough and it would be more expensive to make too. Not sure
Got
If you are gonna throw the strap away why not just cut it beforehand
Solo seat, who needs passengers anyway, get the wife to pass her test and get her own bike, ride together forever :)
ha ha it has been mentioned...many times
