- Started out at Lido Beach on Long Island but found mostly can slaw. Then went mudlarking at Dead Horse Bay and earned a Taco Bell Trip. I also found a silver pin by the known silversmith Peer Smed.

Metal detecting is a hobby that millions of people around the world do. All you need to try is a metal detector some batteries, a digging tool and some patience. My first metal detector cost 30 dollars at BJ's and I dug enough signals to buy my first "real" metal detector with the change that I found with the 30 dollar toy model. I decided to start Metal detecting on TH-cam because I feel the need to teach what I know. It has been a life changing activity for me and I want to share what I know. It is my hope that Metal Detecting NYC can become one of the biggest metal detecting youtube channels. My beach instructional videos include (or will include soon) , "metal detecting dry sand", (choosing a) "metal detecting sand scoop" and "surf hunting". On land, I use the website historic aerials to survey the history of a site so that I can continue metal detecting old homesites and other places with a lot of history. Great intro! Neat bottle looked like an old rubber cement bottle we used in school many, many years ago. Truly enjoy your commentary and your instruction. Your kids are cute too. Great that you have them take part. Hope they follow the hobby when they grow up.
I went to Dead Horse Bay the day before Hurricane Sandy for what was called super low tide. You could practically walk across to the other side

Very cool hunt and so many goodies! That silver thing is awesome! Funny I spotted that flashlight earlier in the video and surprised you didn’t pick it up. They used to be made of coated brass. That place would be like heaven for me! You’ll have a good total for scrap if you keep going there. ATB&HH!
Update...appears that taft coin is a commemorative - no gold- likely bronze- but still crazy to find that in such a place- commems generally werent much in circulation...more details to come...

Oh, wow Merrill, I believe that small bottle you found once contained horse glue, that's rather alarming, Dead Horse Glue, that's creepy. That one small metal wadge looking thing with a dial wheel was a micky mouse telephone, I L O V E the coinage. looks like Merrill and Adele are the Bonnie and Clyde of the bay, they killed it, and that's a sharp silver rose dress pin, and the gold rules. That twisted up piece of copper is a ring it's a homemade ring then I forget what they call it but it used to be fairly common back in the I think late 1800s early 1900s
The “bracelet” is a fancy napkin ring.

Have you tried the nox on dead horse bay? With as much stuff as your finding with your duel optical scanners that place has to be loaded below the surface. Great video.
