I worked for The Eagles as a stagehand. Lucky for me, I was sent to the aid of Joe Walsh guitar tech. I got to see his guitars, several Carvins. He gave me a Joe Walsh pick, I guess for a tip. I have been buying Carvin ever since. They are much cheaper than a Gibson, PRS , Fender and 10x better. Everything this man says is true. I was able to speak and order just what I wanted. I only paid 2100.00 got a les paul style w tremelo, ebony fret board, MOP inlays(Not Mother of toilet seat (Like Gibson). I could go on forever. If you buy any thing else , you are not doing yourself any favors.

I've always known who the Eagles were but I never really "knew" who Joe Walsh was until recently. I'm not sure how I "discovered" him but for some reason when I did see him, I was drawn to him. He really is one amazing and talented person and hearing his struggles with drugs and alcohol, and the fact that he along with the help of Don Felder and the rest of the Eagles band making him realize that he had a serious problem and buckling down to get the help he needed to become sober is truly inspiring. I don't think I could imagine what life would be like for friends and family of his or the world for that matter! he has said so many times and I strongly believe that he was and is lucky to be still alive and doing what he loves best and that is music and being able to play for his fans/family and friends! Love you Joe so much!

I met Joe in Sydney over twenty years ago, and had a great 5 minutes talking to him backstage. One of my guitar and rock music idols ( along with the usual suspects like Beck,Page,SRV,Holdsworth,Morse etc...) Joe has always talked liked this, he is a considered thinker, with a deep and laconic voice unaffected by any the high living of the past, and he has been totally sober for over ten years. For a guy in his mid 60's he looks healthy and fit.He does have HUGE hands for a guy about 5ft10".

Carvin hasn't been in the conversation enough because they made a business decision to go direct, instead of through a dealer distribution system, thus keeping the cost-to-customer down. Their quality has ALWAYS been first rate, and attention to detail is a top priority, as that's where the value is. I was wondering about the Kiesel spit, too, and I hope this pays off for them. With so many "boutique" (read EXPENSIVE) companies, and the old big guys outsourcing almost everything, I think we should be supporting them.. Not cheap, but, "you get what you pay for", without being ripped off.
Now if they'd just make some gold foil pickups......

Note on the latest live Eagles DVD, Joe plays his Carvin on some of the new Eagles songs. Which backs up what he has told us about using it heavily in the studio on the latest Eagles CD. Joe now has an arsenal of our new CS6 Single Cuts and loves them. We have a new ad in the October 08 issue of Guitar Player magazine, with Joe and his new guitar.

Yes he does, I have worked for him. He wants nothing in return, but he will take it. Keisel rocks. I ordered another 3 weeks ago. They are having some great special deals now. Move on it I f you want the best. They are inexpensive compared to their lousy competitrors. I saw a Gibson LP standard at GC. 5,000 and the rosewood was complete crap. Rough light and revolting.

I have two CT6 Carvins; one they built for me and the other I got off their show room floor. I have an Icon 5 bass, and LB70, and just bought a Kiesel Aries (grabber blue) that was a prototype they used for something or another. I have a bunch of guitars; Gibson, Fender, ESP, etc. and all I play is that Kiesel. I can't put it down. I didn't think I could find a guitar that fit me so perfectly. The build on the Carvin/Kiesel stuff is imaculate and the attention to detail is remarkable. The Lithium pickups in the Kiesel are absolutely fantastic and are a huge improvement over anything they've done as of yet in my opinion. I like it so much they are building me another one (should have it early March.) These guitars aren't the same animal as the typical mass produced music store guitars (which aren't all bad by the way.) They truly are extremely well built and playable instruments. Don't get me wrong, I love my Gibson and Fenders, but when it comes to true comfort, playability, and consistency, I don't think these guitars can be beat for the price. Open up the control cavity of one of these and take a look at the kind of attention to detail and you get the idea about the workmanship. Don't mean to rant here, but they're worth every penny.

It is true, Gibson custom suck, and they cost way too much. F Gibson. Now they do not even use ebony, it is something called Richlite. Maple with some black crap baked on. It is not funny. Gibson has gone to hell. I would never buy one. I did in the 70s and eayly 80s . I bought a LP standard with a flight case for 550.00 new.

    • @peterlukach310
      @peterlukach310 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@shawnshipstad8883 richlite is synthetic wood, from my understanding its paper and resin. The mapel they used was baked or roasted mapel which is basically mapel heated at low temperatures to dry it more making it more stable. Tbh gibsons use of richlite and roasted mapel had more to do with CITES restrictions than anything else. Currently, they do use eboney again. I think the complaint about quality has some validity, especially the 2018 line up and back.

I've only seen two guitar makers with quality as consistent in the stuff that Joe talks about (bridge height, etc). Amateurish players will get stuck on finish anomalies and fret ends in low humidity, but a good guitar has those things right (lower bridge height and bridge centered oriented to the neck).
Collings is one of them, carvin is the other. I've had more collings than carvin, but gibson sure won't do that stuff right, and the people copying their guitars will only do it right on their highest models (like tokai, etc).
If I could only have three guitars, I'd want a carvin of some type, a collings of some type, and an old yamaha (have an SG3000, but it doesn't need to be that glitzy). I've had les pauls from the 2000s, 1990s, 2010s and now one from '76 in great shape. At least the 76 has some evidence that humans worked on it and put things in order, but the rest of them have been forgettable to defective.

When Joe is in Sydney he shops at my local vintage guitar shop where he traded/sold a couple of his guitars one in particular is a Paul Reed Smith and it feels amazing when you pick it up and play. The action is absolutely amazing, no fret buzz and I swear that you'd have trouble slipping a razor blade between the strings and the frets. So if it's one of his rejects and Carvin make better guitars they must make amazing instruments.

Never heard of a Carvin but would like to try one. A couple of points Joe - Just checked my Gibsons all of the strings on every one line up perfectly over the pickup poles. The high and low E's are equal all the way down the neck. As for the Bridge being on the body, good point however, the one thing I love about a les Paul is that I can change strings with no tools necessary. On the carvin, fenders etc you are required to have at least a philips screw driver.

ZER0 he plays Les Pauls, Teles and Carvins. Who wouldn't say that a vintage '59 Gold Top worth $50k wasn't his favorite guitar? No shit. Old Les Pauls have a skinny bridge so the strings are closer to the body, new ones don't. Carvin does have the bridge set up he likes, and they cost 1/20th the price. You'd be crazy to take a $20-$30k guitar on the road.

Love how he digs the bridge and the Gibson won't do that configuration anymore, even for him.

That tells you all you need to know about Gibson management and why they're BLEEDING RED. Their current CEO is driving that company into the ground.

***** The last Gibson I bought was in 1981. Poor quality with all three that I owned. Gibson cured my head-stockitis and I never looked back. That's also why they're bleeding red, they burned way too many of us.

Bought a sig series jumbo ... sent it back , incorrect cosmetics ...Over the next year .. they made me 3 more guitars ... sent each one back , cracked bridge .. improper aligned nut .. etc. Issues with every one they made and shipped to me . Even personally spoke to quality manager ... telling her to do her job ..and inspect product before leaving their hands / factory .... haha ended up getting my $ 3500 refunded cause they were unable to live up to their rep. of producing a qualty instr. Just bad luck i guess ? called Gibson Headq. New York ... and told them to send me a guitar FREE ! ... for putting me through a year of misery .... No deal !

In my mind Gibson probably never established quality. They had Page playing a heavily modded Paul, we wanted that axe, other big guys made us want those guitars too, but those guys were playing Gibson crap too and figuring out how to make it work...new electronics, relocate the bridges, shave the neck, better tuners, etc. Johnny Winter said the headstock broke off every one of his Firebirds, nice design right there.

Joe Walsh is one of the greatest guitarists and songwriters this country has produced, and he is right on when talking about how crappy most guitars are today, construction wise. He is absolutely right about how pickups and string spacing are laid out, not only does it look bad, but it has a bad effect on the overall sound of the guitar. As to Carvin guitars, most are made pretty good, but even they can do a few more little things to make what would be the best guitar you could buy.

Didn't you break A string in Detroiit? Was that you Joe? The into riff and pop went the string, one cuz word and we didn't wait long and you played on and we were all so happy.😙😙😚😙😶😚😙

Carvin makes nice guitars, but I have one complaint. They don't offer different neck sizes. I like bigger necks. I think they could sell more guitars if they offered different size neck contours.

Well if I'm not mistaken, Carvin went totally out of business A LONG TIME AGO. So what do you expect??? Ya can't have a company make taylor made guitars for you......when they're no longer in business now.......can you.

    • @bb_lz9790

@@howabouthetruth2157 After Lowel Kiesel's death, two sons split the business. One got amps and Pro Audio, and Mark got guitars and basses. Mark and son Jeff changed the name back to Kiesel Guitars and moved up to Escondido (where they were in the early '70s). Kiesel Guitars is very much alive.
Carvin Audio did go out of business in late 2017/early 2018 ish but they're back with pedals and some Pro Audio stuff and other bits.

@@bb_lz9790 I know all about Kiesel Guitars and how they came to be. I was checking out Keisel's line of guitars around 6 months ago. But the Carvin company as we once knew it in it's former capacity, is simply long gone........where great guitars, amps, PA's, and sound mixing gear were all produced marketed factory-direct under the same company. Sure, the Keisel guitars are high quality, but it's only guitars & basses, with no amps & other gear that I'm aware of.

I have owned 3 Carvin electrics and the necks were so unstable I had to adjust them every couple of months. Especially when I moved to Florida. They don't like humidity. The intonation could never get quite right on them either. You can hear bad intonation in this video. I wound up going with Parkers. I have to say though, I own the Carvin Cobalt C980 Acoustic and it is an incredible sounding guitar. Great for recording.

As of about two years ago, all of our guitars come standard with carbon fiber reinforcement rods in the neck, so now our necks are incredibly stable!

Joe Walsh is a very unique an amazing musical Artist...He has never got his just due for all his musical gifts and greatness...especially from the Eagles who paid him less than what Don Henley and Glenn Frey was getting paid.Joe Walsh has created many amazing hit songs and records long before the Eagles had a clue !!! The Eagles needed Joe Walsh, Joe Walsh didn't need the Eagles. !!
