Yes! This is a classic, Joe gets progressively hammered throughout this video, we used to play this over and over in the Guitar Center I worked at, Legendary!!!
Years ago, I heard an interview of either a record producer, or another musician, talking about working with studio musicians. They said Joe was one of the best studio guys ever. You played the demo for him once, played the tune with him once, then hit Record. Complete natural musician.

well he was being paid or expecting to be paid from sales I'm sure. highly unlikely he just did it for fun or to further the world of guitar education in the early 90s
Along with a dozen other guitarists, you make it sound like Joe Walsh came up with the idea of the recorded guitar instructional. Believe it or not there was a world before TH-cam.
The tip about how he leaves a bit of length on the string, then bends it down to make it impossible to poke yourself, is genius. So simple, yet, I've never seen that before. That makes a lot of sense. Anyone else have cats that like to rub their face on the guitar tuners while you play? It always worries me they're going to get poked by a string.
What I’ve always appreciated about Joe Walsh is that he truly is a minimalist; never over plays. People who play ever riff they know in every song lack creativity. Joe plays some iconic riffs though.
What is “ever riff they know?” Does Coltrane lack creativity? How about Mozart? Minimalism is great and works just fine-you don’t have to dog fifty musicians to praise one. How about, he skins a cat just fine, and leave it there 😂.
I actually got to see Joe play his last gig in a bar, on the south side of Cleveland, Ohio, the day before he and the James Gang guys went to L.A. to record their first album. I'll never get to share that memory with Joe, but he is Cleveland's favorite rocker. ;-)

After the show I hung out and got to say hello and he shook my hand twice and was a very kind and peaceful man . Oh yeah one of the BEST shows I ever attended. And I've seen alot going back to the Filmore East shows .

In my opinion the best guitar playing Joe ever recorded was on James Gang Live In Concert. 1971. He’s on fire throughout and the tone runs from silky and bluesy to raw and heavy. Incredible feel and fire. If you haven’t heard it, check it out. 👍🏼
I was very fortunate to have attended that amazing concert, in 1971 at Carnegie Hall in NYC! I was only 15 years old. Of the countless hundreds of concerts I've been to over the years, that was one of the best and most memorable. I stood in the front, right by the stage, directly in front of the massive P.A. system... It was, to say the least, very loud. In fact, I FELT the music as much as I could hear it. I was thrilled to be able to relive that incredible, magical night again and again, after the release of, "The James Gang -Live In Concert" I consider it one of the greatest live rock albums ever recorded... up there with, "Live at Leads" and "The Allman Brothers - Live At Fillmore East". To me, Joe Walsh is a guitar god! I was also at the Fillmore East the night, "Dereck and the Dominos - Live At The Fillmore" was recorded... But that's a whole 'nother story...
@RIO RUSTY RSTUDS I heard a lot of stories about those days from a buddy who was there. Don Felder, the Leadon brothers, the Mudcrutch members...I think Stephen Stills may have even spent some time up there. Quite a talent pool all lived in proximity to that one park downtown. Did you get all your gear from Dub's too?

Indeed, Joe was told by Henley and Frey that he had to get clean in order to be part of the Eagles reunion in 1994. Don Felder has confirmed that in his autobiography and that he personally had to drive Joe to a rehab clinic in Santa Monica.
@@mitchelllevine5664 Joe may have said that, but the real reason was that he was told by Henley and Frey that he had to get totally clean in order to be part of the Eagles reunion in 1994. It’s unlikely anyone would really notice the cent or two but when intonating a guitar you don’t want it on the bench, the guitar should be intonated in playing position if you truly want perfect intonation while playing. Also when adjusting the neck it’s best to trust your measurements more than your eyes. We all do it we look down and up the fretboard and check the relief that is usually fine to tell if it needs adjustment but before doing it take measurements then an eight of a turn and check measurements repeat as needed. Because I have worked on a lot of guitars from people that didn’t quite understand this I am going to mention it. TRUSS ROD ADJUSTMENTS ARE NOT for adjusting the action of the guitar. If adjusted properly a truss rod should never break or reach the end of its usefulness (assuming the guitar was not abused or made of cardboard) the truss rod on a guitar should outlive you. If you have a guitar that has no adjustment left on the truss rod it’s likely that at some point somebody tried to adjust the action with it, don’t do this. Action is adjusted at the nut and the bridge taking measurements and making very fine adjustments particularly at the nut because material is easy to remove but not so easy to put back there are tricks to add material but generally speaking if you take too much off then it means cutting a new nut, not really expensive but not something to do yourself unless you really know what you are doing. As for replacing pots verses cleaning that’s up to you but if it’s a vintage guitar it’s best to leave everything in factory condition and if it belonged to someone famous and the electronics are custom I will smack your fingers with a ruler if you try to pull out the pots. I am not a great player but I am a great guitar tech. Ultimately it’s your instrument so learn how to maintain it or just go to a respected shop and pay for set ups and maintenance. New guitars are never set up perfectly I don’t care how much they cost they all need a proper set up and old guitars should be maintained meticulously to make sure they get older. That’s my two cents on things.
Joe Walsh. Him and Ringo...are the nicest guys in Rock-N-Roll. And they just happen to be brother-in-laws. Absolutely zero ego...100 percent...all heart.
OK folks he might be drunk BUT I think it is also just his personality. He is another generation and also just one of those really physically goofy, in a wonderful way, kind of people. I learned a TON from this video. I love his old-school attitude.
Awesome! This will help my guitar playing. My fingers will not make make most chord shapes, so the explanation of G and E tuning opens up a lot of possibilities. Informative and fun video.
If your not that good…..get into G tuning. 🤣 He shows you don’t have to be a musical genius to make a decent song. This video is underrated. The guy shows you so much REAL life tips that anyone can use. I love Joe cause he is just so real and humble. If you haven’t seen it watch him at Daryl’s place. Awesome.
Joe did another video on how to set up a Les Paul and Man My Guitar played good ,but when I got done doing what Joe did wow my 1993 lespaul is sweeeeeeeet
Joe must have been a real treat for his parents and teachers back in the day. I think that if he hadn't found music (or maybe music hadn't found him) he might have spent the majority of his life in an insane asylum. Also, without Joe, the eagles wouldn't have been half as good as they turned out to be! Joe is truly one of a kind. The world won't be the same when he's gone.
the advice about finding the lowest note you can sing and then discovering what that is on a piano is absolutely brilliant. It's not perfect, but that would get you close.
His singing could be stronger but his playing and his personality are sheer gold I love him as any guitarist should. Glad he cleaned up his lifestyle 🙏
@Steve LOL you just made me recall a concert where I went to see Joe except *I* *was* *the* *one* that didn't show up. I think it was his first solo tour, and he was opening for Eric Clapton in '74 at a race track in West Palm, FL. Unfortunately it was on a 2 lane road west of town where nothing was out there but nothing. So all traffic was from I-95 (to the east), including me and my friends, and in no time the road was at a standstill. Eventually people were stopped on the westbound lane AND both shoulders ...where they just decided to abandon their vehicles and walk. We did the same and I figure we walked a couple of miles with this entire woodstock-like migration ...with no speedway even in sight. So we sadly turned around and walked back to our vehicle just in time to save it from being towed (among some very angry PBC deputies). I heard later that they eventually did play but started hours late, maybe because the crowd couldn't get there...maybe because they couldn't either. Never have seen Joe to this day. I passed on an invite to the James Gang reunion a few years ago. It turned out to be $125 for a 65 minute show. :-(
@@LightningDogg you could have seen a drunk Eric Clapton. With Joe Walsh opening up, I would have went and walked back stoned as hell looking for my car. And, then the next day write a funny song about that crazy night in 1974.

The guy who inspired me as much as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and then Joe Walsh!
OK folks he might be drunk BUT I think it is also just his personality. He is another generation and also just one of those really physically goofy, in a wonderful way, kind of people. I learned a TON from this video. I love his old-school attitude.
I love the way Joe talks ... he could be the perfect voiceover for a Pixar movie character!
@@Jonathan-L So true! I wonder if he has ever been asked to do a voice? I guess I could look on imdb,
Proud to say Joe is from my home town Wichita KS. An amazing musician.
Thank You Joe you gave me my shot at the big time everything you said was spot on right
Master in playing the guitar my man.rock on bro.🎸🎶
Joe must have been a real treat for his parents and teachers back in the day. I think that if he hadn't found music (or maybe music hadn't found him) he might have spent the majority of his life in an insane asylum.
Also, without Joe, the eagles wouldn't have been half as good as they turned out to be!
Joe is truly one of a kind. The world won't be the same when he's gone.
In the Eagles documentary, Glenn Frey says that Walsh was "an interesting bunch of guys."
Damn right on that!!!
You Da Man Joe! ❤👍😎
Thanks for the memories Joe...And the 🎶 🎵 Music!
Das 😎 all!👍
Every student ive ever taught has got the same statement music is in your picking hand ❤
I remember my Les Paul going out of tune, this would have been 1992 I am guessing. This video changed everything.
What a legend. He was in low orbit and still killed it.
Its the best yull ever see mighty joe walsh please take care ...
I am surprised that they filmed this with him in that kind of shape
Yea, it’s kind of hard to watch. He’s quite the character though.
😂😂😂
He always reminds me of Matthew McConaughey in Dazed&Confused - "right?"
Joe and Ringo , now sober , best friends brother in laws , and they have a good families , We wish them the best.
this is the most helpful star licks I've ever seen.....
Rick Rosas, the Bass Player, R.I.P.
the advice about finding the lowest note you can sing and then discovering what that is on a piano is absolutely brilliant. It's not perfect, but that would get you close.
Joe is the s...thanks so much for All frim jimmys 1 to endless attributes bro. You are the rock n roll inspirational just great .
Life's been good to him so far....
His singing could be stronger but his playing and his personality are sheer gold I love him as any guitarist should. Glad he cleaned up his lifestyle 🙏
In a Crossroads Concert version of "Rocky Mountain Way" he's getting the crowd to sing along and he tells the crowd, "Just yell, that's what I do."
And his song writing is pretty frigging strong too.
Indeed.

That opening lick...one rif was on Don Henley Album.....in the beginning.....40 check it out
Saw joe for 12 bucks at the fairgrounds in Detroit! I still remember it!
