Kenworth Truck Company is an American truck manufacturer. Founded in 1923 as the successor to Gersix Motor Company, Kenworth specializes in production of heavy-duty (Class 8) and medium-duty (Class 5-7) commercial vehicles. Headquartered in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, Washington, Kenworth has been a wholly owned subsidiary of PACCAR since 1945,[2] operating alongside sister company (and marketplace rival) Peterbilt Motors.
Kenworth marked several firsts in truck production; the company introduced a raised-roof sleeper cab, and the first heavy-duty truck with an aerodynamically optimized body design.[3] The Kenworth W900 has been produced continuously since 1961, serving as one of the longest production runs of any truck in automotive history. The K100 was also released in 1961.
In 1982 and 1984, respectively, the W900 and K100 underwent their most substantial revisions, becoming the W900B and K100E. While visually distinguished by the adoption of rectangular headlamps, the updates were centered around upgrading fuel economy, road handling, and reliability.[18]
In 1985, the Kenworth T600 was released by the company; in contrast to the W900, the T600 was designed with a set-back front axle and a sloped hoodline. While the latter initially proved controversial, the combination improved aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability.[18] Intended as an expansion of the Kenworth model line, the success of the T600 would lead to the introductions of similar designs from multiple American truck manufacturers. In 1986, the T800 was introduced, adapting the sloped hoodline and set-back front axle for a heavy-duty chassis; the shorter-hood T400 was introduced in 1988 as a regional-haul tractor.[18]
In 1987, Kenworth introduced the Mid-Ranger COE, its first medium-duty truck. Shared with Peterbilt, the Brazilian-produced Mid-Ranger was derived from the MAN G90 (a wide-body version of the Volkswagen LT[22]). In 1992, the Mid-Ranger became the K300, as PACCAR shifted production to Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec.

Built this kit in 74, I was 15, wow! This is a awesome model for anyone who loves to build. Just so happens I've been thinking about getting back in the mix and looked at every one of your videos last night to see if you've covered this truck, and presto! Must be a sign, thank you, subscribed.

@@dleifteHsemaJ Hey that's great you're going to love it! I built the Transport Trailer too so I could display a few cars. Reply here when you get it built, I'd like to see some pics, most of all have a good time, at 15 I sure did. 😊

I just finished building this kit and loved how customizable it was with all the extra pieces.
Would love to see you build this on the channel and maybe pair it with the AMT Peerless Roadrunner logging kit.

There’s a a Smithsonian article from the early 70s detailing the typical trip from Texas to Alaska. Lots of good reference photos.

Great unboxing! I built this kit when i was 14 or 15. I had built maybe 10 or 12 truck kits by then. back then, I was quite put off that the kit did NOT have the chromed parts (now, I wish they ALL came like that). I'm really glad the @round2models #round2models gang brought it back without the chrome. I also appreciate the level they've been putting into their decal offerings. I especially like the paddle door handles (and they give you 2 pair!) what a nice way to be able to update the truck and make it a post 1972 version. I can wait to see your build video on this. thanks for posting these great videos!

This kit is the original, "Ice Road Trucker." The 2nd saddle tank on the right is a propane tank. This kit also comes with a 20lbs propane tank. There's a video on TH-cam title, " Arctic Convoy With Giant Mack Trucks" Would explain why propane was used.

And with the actual photos of these out there, they usually had a flatbed with short type stake panels and tarp.

Thanks for the review. I was torn between this one and the Australian version, but the lack of all that chrome parts sold me on this kit. I think they go overboard on some of the chrome ... it's nice to let the modeler decide to chrome or not. Maybe back in the day, but in this time period, we have plenty of chrome paint (good chrome paint) to choose from if we want to go in that direction. Also, it's great they include the chain. Now I can take that to Hobby Lobby and match it for other models. I can't find your video where you gave us the brand (Master Gallery?) and part number for the correct chain to scale size.

The sleeper on those old Kenworths you did have to crawl through that tiny opening to get into the sleeper. Also on the cab side you had a roll up window that would separate the cab from the sleeper. Kenworth didn't go to the full length opening until I think it was 1975 or 76 model year. 1975 is when Kenworth offered the 63" walkin sleeper. Keep on modelin

Great review, Thank you👍🏻. I have this truck on it's way from Hobby Lobby (on sale for 29.99). I don't really understand why the put a fancy piece of jewelry for the chain, that is probably more expensive and looks wrong, I will replace it with a normal chain and keep the one from the box to make a necklace for my hairy chest. I will also be extremely vigilant on the amount of rivets, don't try to get smart, AMT. Apparently this particular truck had only one exhaust stack (there is 2 in the box), so either I'll try to fit 2 if possible or, if not, remember to fill-up the stack holes on the driver side, same thing for the driver's side air filter, there is just one on the passenger side. I became addicted to AMT's flaws, it's more challenging, not a fan of Tamiya's boring perfection. Thanks for the video, I can't wait to see and start this cool looking thing.👋🏻

About the chrome on kits, the problem is that, even if you're okay with the look of it, there is, most of the time a sprue attachment that is going to ruin it...

I got one of those kits back in around 1976. It seemed a rare model back then. I didn't see the fenders and headlights with the chequer plate to make the non flip front version. Great kit, painted it British Racing Green and Post Office Red. Big love from Essex UK
