I love the small detail that, although for most weapons the Octoling looks more excited due to not being able to do turf wars, the Inkling also gets excited with the Stringer and Splatana, since they're brand new weapons for the Inklings too.
Interestingly, the octoling seems more experienced with the splatana (examining its quality by checking how straight it is), since that’s very similar to some weapons the octarians used in a few places in 2

Inklings handle the weapons like they’re using something they know and swing it around as a test drive, while octolings handle the weapons like they’re thrilled to put them to use, anticipating how they’ll use it instead of adjusting to the weapon.
Ironic since, canonically the Octolings are typically the smarter of the 2, at least for the most part, I mean in the chat logs in Octo Expansion they mention how Octolings in the Octarian Army are well known for their proficiency and intelligence when it comes to weaponry, while Inklings are usually just using them for fun

It shows the Octolings are having fun in Inkling society, while for the Inkings this is fairly routine for them, which is explains why they aren't as energetic as the Octos. However something I noticed is that these roles are kind of reversed when it comes to the new weapon classes (Stringers and Splatanas). For the Octolings, still somewhat getting acclimated to the surface, they probably feel these new weapons require more thorough testing before having fun, whereas the Inklings are excited to finally try something different, as their whole society is based around the idea of keeping things "fresh" (this difference is more apparent with the Stringers than Splatanas). This kind of attention to detail is the reason why I love games so much.
from what i can tell, the inklings are more tactically-minded, testing their weapon's strengths and weaknesses. But the octolings are still new to the sport, hence holding the charger incorrectly, using the brella like a bat, seeing if the slosher's ink would fall out, etc
I love how the octolings seem to be really excited to be able to mess around with weapons and take part in turf war/anarchy battles since they never got the chance to in the past. It’s just really heartwarming to me and shows how much detail Nintendo puts in to it :)

When an Octarian hears the Calamari Inkantation, they’re not leaving the Octarians because they see the oppression (which frankly, there’s little to prove that despite the military lifestyle), or anything that the general fandom believes on, but because the song wires the Octarians to find a way to go back to the surface. When people say Octolings and Inklings are at peace, they completely forget one thing, the Octarians, the tentacle ones, who have families, feelings, goals, and a future, are not, and are still struggling with the power crisis down in the domes. Let’s also not mention as to how the Squid Vs Octopus splatfest is bound to leave a sour spot for the Octolings already living on the surface, and even the other Octarians if they ever caught a whiff of that story. All of that just solidifies what every Octarian was taught from a young age, from the propaganda sunken scrolls we see in Splatoon 1 and 2, the Poem Paradise Lost, written by Octolangelo, and the horrifying biology of an Inkling - the inklings as a species has shown the Octolings on the surface, and below, that they are not the most clever, and strive for competition even if that competition at the end of the day is meaningless. Some inklings can’t even tell apart an Octoling from an Inkling, that alone is just disrespectful because it shows that they don’t care to learn more about the world around them, and to an extension, the Octarians. While the Inklings lavished and prospered for 100 years without doing anything else other than to win a war over land, the Octarians had to work for their position, and they rose, only to be continuously preyed upon by everyone else, from sanitation, to being Mammalized. The Octarians are truly the underdog in this world that just preys upon it.

My favorite's the octoling umbrella animation. The expression on their face as they realize it's NOT meant to be a melee weapon is great, I love this kind of attention to detail in games
Once again the devs showing the octolings military upbringing. The inkling look amazed and curious while the octoling feels like another walk on the park, but now only for fun. Specially with the heavy splattling animation, the inkling looks to be struggling a little to lift the weapon while the octoling already fake aiming targets.
u do know the octoling is the one on the top right? the octolings just look like they are having loads of fun trying out new weapons considering its the first time theyve ever been able to play turf wars
I also really noticed this with the blaster and shooter animations. The Octolings do a full sweep while aiming the blaster while the Inklings quickly aim at two points. For shooters, the Octolings keep the weapon a lot closer to their body than the Inklings do. You can also see the Octolings spin the brush and roller to get a feel for the weight. Overall it looks like the Octolings know what they're doing/are more comfortable with the weapons overall while Inklings look like they're more there for style. Small details but i love stuff like that
@@timothygooding9544 welp, lorewise Octolings have military training since young age (Marina's backstory shows that) and they only started leaving the domes in great numbers after the event of octo expansion. These weapons variety means nothing to them because they were already trained into using them. The inkling in the bottom with the heavy splattling is feeling the weight and how to handle it, while it feels like nothing for the octoling. Octolings now are being able to experience the outside world and are having lots of fun with it. Like when changing shops, while inklings loose balance switching from shop to ship, octolings Just jump keeping perfect balance (but with a huge smile).
While inklings may be putting more thought into it and octoling just having fun, the octolings also show more experience and 'finess' with the weapons like with the slosher balance and how easily the octoling flips the dulies
Octolings also have the Splattershot close to there bodies/hips to help steady their aim, while the Inklings jut it out like a pistol. Also, while this one is way more subtle, Octolings look like they're slam the Splat Roller down to the ground, while Inklings kinda just lets it drop. I really love the subtle detail of these animations and how Octolings while more playful, show they're experience using weapons.
Yeah, everyone mentions how the Inklings are more investigative and the Octolings are more enthusiastic, but the Octos seem way more sharp and exact with their checks and movements in handling a lot of the weapons. They give it a little more force or handle it more precisely.
I headcanon 8 as being of two minds. One minute she’s blasting her foes with pinpoint accuracy and completely shredding them to puddles with cold heartless efficiency but the minute the fight’s over she either has Rei Ayanami face or Konata Izumi face. There is no inbetween.
It’s precious. Octolings were always so serious in the last game. I’m happy that they’re so excited to join the fun! The inklings are so used to fighting that they know what they’re looking for in a weapon
The Octos’ popularity was not lost on the devs. It’s downright precious how happy they are basically just to be here doing the same things as Inklings.
I love the slosher animation. Inkling just demos the weight of it but octoling absolutely has to know how the hell that goop doesn’t fall out. It’s a great way of showing one group as having been accustomed to the weapon class and another being new to it due to only just joining society.
I like how these little animations help establish that inklings are more aggressive and intense than octolings, who are more tactical and prone to goofing off. To the inkling, turf wars are a matter of pride, of proving how fresh you are in an ever-changing scene. To the octoling, turf wars are just a fun sport and a way to release stress.
It's amazing how the Octolings went from being more composed/timid in Splatoon 2 to more excited than the Inklings in Splatoon 3. Guess they fit into the surface world far better than expected and really opened their eyes to all the fun there was to be had that they previously had no access to during their time serving under Octavio.
As many have stated before, Inklings have been doing ink wars for 7 years, while Octolings on being let above the surface 4-3 years ago. They are very curious and are trying to bring out the fun in the weapon, while Inklings are trying to strategise. Great video! :D
i hadnt noticed the animations before! i expected the octolings to be the ones inspecting the weapons due to many of them being soldiers before, but it makes me even more happy to see them having fun with an expression of genuine joy and excitement because they can participate in turf wars too!
I think it shows the more strategy and powerful side of inklings showing that they seem to care more for the tactical uses and handling of each weapon. As they’ve been able to keep the octolings underground for so long they were probably raised knowing just how these weapons are meant to be used, whereas octolings are only now able to use these weapons for fun vs protection from the inkling race. Only the ones that fought beside Octavio would know how to use them effectively. Now all surface dwelling octolings get to use them for sport.
I take it as the octolings are more comfortable at using general weapons The things that are more niche are foreign to them are the sloshes and brella etc etc The octoling seems to recognize the splatling pretty quickly and gets into the idea of using it Same with the dualies
Tbh, inklings never actively kept Octolings underground, most inklings thought Octariens were extinct! The only ones who actually knew and kept them at bay were the Squidbeak Splatoon, im assuming the demenors come from how serious inklings are Abt turf wars and how territorial they are, while octolings are just glad they finally can have fun

The Octos clearly have never seen anything like Turf Wars, before they came to the surface I'd take an educated guess that battling with ink would be seen as purely military. The prospect of being able to muck around and simply focus on the fun of being able to use their own abilities with the inklings. partaking in these massive games curated for them must be so alien to them. it's truly paradise to them now, and they're so happy to be apart of it they can barely keep a bright smile off their face as they look at their new arsenal of toys.
I think it's clear here that there are some weapons Octolings and Inklings get more excited about and prefer. Octoling really really likes the splatling and bucket while the Inkling seems very satisfied with the tri-stringer.
I feel like Inklings want to pose and look cool with them, and Octolings are excited to try them out and test their technical traits like their weight!
I love how the octolings act out using their weapons. it feels like the inklings are just posing with them, but the octolings are really envisioning how they'd use them. pretty cool!

i love how the inklings are sure of themselves and are shown to be more well rounded with the weapons as theyve been doing it for years, but the octolings are excited and more expressive as they're still fairly new to it, and are happy to finally be able to play with the inklings
I like how the octolings are simultaneously Infinitely more skilled in their handling drills and way more excited. Hammers home the point most of them were probably army kids.
Looks like the Inklings are more cool and collected, while the Octolings are more curious and excited. Splatoon 3 is full of these little details and I love it.
I like how octolings have gone from kind of serious and closed off to peppy and upbeat, you can tell being around inklings has caused them to open up and now it's the opposite direction, inklings are more serious because they've been at this for a while, octolings meanwhile are real happy to be here I think the best example of this is how inklings seem to be feeling the weight of the weapon meanwhile octolings are just straight up messing around most of the time, inklings are still definitely playful, but there is motive in a lot of what they're doing here, even if they're having fun doing it
From what I could gather Inklings tend to examine their weapons before playing with them and they seem to wield their weapons with a bit more dexterity while Octoling take a small glance at the weapon but ultimately they mostly play around with them and they don't seem to fully understand their mechanics

I like how the octolings inspect the weapon more thoroughly as it is a new kit or gear. While the inkling gives a few glances and an aim or two, just to get themselves familiar with it if they decide to purchase it.
Glad I picked an Octo, even with the same hair (Tentacles?) as the one on the video. Dammit these things are cute and adorable and I seek only to satiate their cravings for violence, death and destruction.
I find it pretty neat that inklings and octolings seem to differ in weapon class experience. While inklings are more experienced with the more standard appliance or toy based weapons, octolings goof off with them or spend more time looking at them. And as for octolings, they spend more time actually weighing and scoping out weapons closer to real life weapons, like the splatling and stringer; vs the inkling who spends more time looking at it and getting the idea of what it is. The exception seems to be splatanas, whereas inklings seem to be less experienced than octolings; but likely as a counterpart to the ink brush; since the inkling immediately tries to scope out the less directly “lethal” of the two weapon classes. This truly says a lot about their society.
Inkling while holding the splatling: Hmmm, not too much weight, feels good to carry, yeah this could work for me. Octoling: Hehehehe, splatling go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm (imitating knockback)
@@krakenofthesea106 I don't. The Octoling society was more militaristic (Marina being a weapons/trap engineer before the introduction of Inkling society is a good example) so lore-wise it matches up. Also, the Inkling animations usually show them just swaying the weapon back and forth just for the heck of it while the Octolings instantly see how the weapon feels when positioned correctly. Of course the Octolings are also kinda silly, but that would be why I said "subtly" in the original post. The subtle part is them doing stuff like holding the weapon in an attacking position after picking it up even though they aren't serious.
Inklings: What an interesting weapon, I'll be looking forward to using it.

My takeaway is that Octolings have just a bit more raw goblin energy and I love it.
Fun Fact: When you switch stores; The Inklings wobble, but when you switch stores with the Octolings they hop.

energetic octolings are everything to me
While inklings may be putting more thought into it and octoling just having fun, the octolings also show more experience and 'finess' with the weapons like with the slosher balance and how easily the octoling flips the dulies
Octolings also have the Splattershot close to there bodies/hips to help steady their aim, while the Inklings jut it out like a pistol. Also, while this one is way more subtle, Octolings look like they're slam the Splat Roller down to the ground, while Inklings kinda just lets it drop.
I really love the subtle detail of these animations and how Octolings while more playful, show they're experience using weapons.
Yeah, everyone mentions how the Inklings are more investigative and the Octolings are more enthusiastic, but the Octos seem way more sharp and exact with their checks and movements in handling a lot of the weapons. They give it a little more force or handle it more precisely.
I headcanon 8 as being of two minds. One minute she’s blasting her foes with pinpoint accuracy and completely shredding them to puddles with cold heartless efficiency but the minute the fight’s over she either has Rei Ayanami face or Konata Izumi face. There is no inbetween.

It’s precious. Octolings were always so serious in the last game. I’m happy that they’re so excited to join the fun! The inklings are so used to fighting that they know what they’re looking for in a weapon

The Octos’ popularity was not lost on the devs. It’s downright precious how happy they are basically just to be here doing the same things as Inklings.
I love the slosher animation. Inkling just demos the weight of it but octoling absolutely has to know how the hell that goop doesn’t fall out.
It’s a great way of showing one group as having been accustomed to the weapon class and another being new to it due to only just joining society.

I like how these little animations help establish that inklings are more aggressive and intense than octolings, who are more tactical and prone to goofing off. To the inkling, turf wars are a matter of pride, of proving how fresh you are in an ever-changing scene. To the octoling, turf wars are just a fun sport and a way to release stress.
and players, its a way to constantly disconnected before you can finish turfing your base
It's amazing how the Octolings went from being more composed/timid in Splatoon 2 to more excited than the Inklings in Splatoon 3. Guess they fit into the surface world far better than expected and really opened their eyes to all the fun there was to be had that they previously had no access to during their time serving under Octavio.

As many have stated before, Inklings have been doing ink wars for 7 years, while Octolings on being let above the surface 4-3 years ago. They are very curious and are trying to bring out the fun in the weapon, while Inklings are trying to strategise. Great video! :D

i hadnt noticed the animations before! i expected the octolings to be the ones inspecting the weapons due to many of them being soldiers before, but it makes me even more happy to see them having fun with an expression of genuine joy and excitement because they can participate in turf wars too!

I think it shows the more strategy and powerful side of inklings showing that they seem to care more for the tactical uses and handling of each weapon. As they’ve been able to keep the octolings underground for so long they were probably raised knowing just how these weapons are meant to be used, whereas octolings are only now able to use these weapons for fun vs protection from the inkling race. Only the ones that fought beside Octavio would know how to use them effectively. Now all surface dwelling octolings get to use them for sport.
I take it as the octolings are more comfortable at using general weapons
The things that are more niche are foreign to them are the sloshes and brella etc etc
The octoling seems to recognize the splatling pretty quickly and gets into the idea of using it

Tbh, inklings never actively kept Octolings underground, most inklings thought Octariens were extinct! The only ones who actually knew and kept them at bay were the Squidbeak Splatoon, im assuming the demenors come from how serious inklings are Abt turf wars and how territorial they are, while octolings are just glad they finally can have fun

The Octos clearly have never seen anything like Turf Wars, before they came to the surface I'd take an educated guess that battling with ink would be seen as purely military. The prospect of being able to muck around and simply focus on the fun of being able to use their own abilities with the inklings. partaking in these massive games curated for them must be so alien to them. it's truly paradise to them now, and they're so happy to be apart of it they can barely keep a bright smile off their face as they look at their new arsenal of toys.
I think it's clear here that there are some weapons Octolings and Inklings get more excited about and prefer. Octoling really really likes the splatling and bucket while the Inkling seems very satisfied with the tri-stringer.
I feel like Inklings want to pose and look cool with them, and Octolings are excited to try them out and test their technical traits like their weight!
I love how the octolings act out using their weapons. it feels like the inklings are just posing with them, but the octolings are really envisioning how they'd use them. pretty cool!

I like how octolings have gone from kind of serious and closed off to peppy and upbeat, you can tell being around inklings has caused them to open up and now it's the opposite direction, inklings are more serious because they've been at this for a while, octolings meanwhile are real happy to be here
I think the best example of this is how inklings seem to be feeling the weight of the weapon meanwhile octolings are just straight up messing around most of the time, inklings are still definitely playful, but there is motive in a lot of what they're doing here, even if they're having fun doing it

From what I could gather Inklings tend to examine their weapons before playing with them and they seem to wield their weapons with a bit more dexterity while Octoling take a small glance at the weapon but ultimately they mostly play around with them and they don't seem to fully understand their mechanics

I find it pretty neat that inklings and octolings seem to differ in weapon class experience.
While inklings are more experienced with the more standard appliance or toy based weapons, octolings goof off with them or spend more time looking at them.
And as for octolings, they spend more time actually weighing and scoping out weapons closer to real life weapons, like the splatling and stringer; vs the inkling who spends more time looking at it and getting the idea of what it is.
The exception seems to be splatanas, whereas inklings seem to be less experienced than octolings; but likely as a counterpart to the ink brush; since the inkling immediately tries to scope out the less directly “lethal” of the two weapon classes.
This truly says a lot about their society.
Inklings: hey this weapon is pretty neat

@@krakenofthesea106 I don't. The Octoling society was more militaristic (Marina being a weapons/trap engineer before the introduction of Inkling society is a good example) so lore-wise it matches up. Also, the Inkling animations usually show them just swaying the weapon back and forth just for the heck of it while the Octolings instantly see how the weapon feels when positioned correctly. Of course the Octolings are also kinda silly, but that would be why I said "subtly" in the original post. The subtle part is them doing stuff like holding the weapon in an attacking position after picking it up even though they aren't serious.
