Hello Josh....well that was very informative and the BEST part was you promoting an Australian Product, excellent! I hope we all support our Aust Manufacturing Businesses.... OK thanks....David....Adelaide...Tiger900GT & Scrambler
Love the intro lol. Almost at 5000kms on my funnel web filters, pre filter was pretty dirty but not a speck of dust on the main filter. I also didn't put any grease on the pre filter.
WARNING to everyone watching this video: Do not run your pre-filter without the spring. After watching this video, I decided to try running the pre-filter without the spring after this most recent time I cleaned it. I went on a ride a couple days later and within about 30 minutes, my bike was having issues running past 5-8k RPM depending on the gear. It would start to sputter. I hadn't done any other maintenance so the only thing I could think of was that there was an airflow issue. I stopped and pulled off the seat, and sure enough, the pre-filter got sucked into the snorkel. The only portion of it that wasn't sucked into the snorkel was the part that was held on by the zip-tie. I pulled it out, re-positioned it and continued my ride, the issue went away. When I got home, I checked the filter again, and it was partially in the snorkel again. The spring does serve a purpose, and it's to make the filter retain it's shape and not get sucked into the snorkel. I would recommend against running it without the spring. You don't want to realize you've lost some power when you most need it due to this issue.
No judgement on the gloves, filter oil is rank. I found with the no toil to oil it, then lay it flat for a few hrs. Seems to settle and not drip when fitted. Sauce bottle is a winner pro tip 👍
Nice variety of videos, really enjoy them, I've been able to catch several. Always appreciate the AUS vids. I've followed nerb1, ridingwithtom and a few others for many years. Much appreciate the AUS folks. Thanks for sharing interesting T7 content. From CT, USA I have (2) new pre and UNI filters as spares now 😆
Hi, I have had the Uni filter since the beginning of September 2019. In Europe, OFF THE ROAD filters are cheaper than all these filters. €70/80 for a foam filter, it's a steal. I agree with you for the Uni filter I wondered what this spring is doing there (probably to stiffen the holding of the filter) I remove the spring each time to clean it. For the moment I do not use a pre-filter, but in Europe we have less dust than in your country. if I raid Morocco, I'll land one. See you soon
Just ticked over 21k … and in February hitting the Dyno/ECU so will be adding the funnel web before the tune. It will be interesting to see what my unifilter is like when I swap it out.
Haha yeah true I might start working on a Golden Orb filter, made purely out of sticky-ass Orb webs no oil required 😅 Thanks mate! Slowly ticking over 🙏
50 cuts of video at 4:47 .. You sure do a good job editing.. Very good thorough job.. Nice..we appreciate the effort to bring us info👍 Seriously .. You busted your aazz doing this video.. 😂 Good work .
Hi Josh Great timing I just bought a funnel web filter for my daughter’s CRF 125 I haven’t installed it yet but they certainly look the goods Good info mate I use Penrite spray on filter oil, very easy to use Thanks hey
Thanks for the review Josh. Will have to check my filter and see how its going as I am at #19K kms. Like you have been mostly just cleaning the prefilter.
Aftermarket parts failure is why OEM components from Yamaha have the reputation they do. Aftermarket parts rely to some extent on the user as the beta tester. Where the OEM either tests durability or knows through prior knowledge that a design wil not fail, causing warranty issues, the aftermarket will take one design and apply it across many different product without thorough testing to get in to market and generating income. This is how cash starved businesses can survive (no one ever has enough cash). I suspect Uni-Filter would warranty their old filter after the wear you showed. The other design is a great idea, but now you know to never trust, but verify when dealing with a critical component.
I hate filter cleaning, for my Beta, I have multiple filters, and will just wash them once I run out of new ones and then oil them as required. I've not seen anything for the Aprilia yet, but must research it soon as I'd much rather a foam filter than a paper one with how wet it is out here.... I would probs want to keep any snorkel intact too as it can get pretty deep in places.
Is it easy to get to the air filter on the Tuareg mate? Some of these adventure bikes make it ridiculously hard, Geoff was telling me it's a tank off job on his Tiger!
@@MVDBR I probably should take a butchers next time I'm in the garage with a bit of time on my hands. I'll maybe make a pre filter for it and then fit a DNA reusable filter in the mean time while I wait for some proper foam ones!
Just watched you on the big screen Josh and the funnel web is next. And yes looks like better quality . and ty for the link and one other thing to ask who's you seat made by? I put 135 miles today And my as is done. Lol And I've got an SRC moto rear stainless rack coming in next Fri and a Kriega 9 back pack .thank you for all you do and post your # 1 in my book .ride safe
Thanks mate! My seat is stock, I've just joined it with the T7Rally kit so it's a one piece affair now but yeah it's not the most comfortable thing in the world. When you first sit on it it's like, oh man this is plush... 100km later it feels like a 2x4 hardwood plank 😁 I think I will eventually get a Seat Concepts foam for it
Hey Josh bloody rippa mate but you'll probably have to cut the two pins ,,tubes ,, from under the seat ye else they'll cut into that filter mate ,also have you seen the filter lid from mob designs mate tooroo mate have a look
As much shit as I may talk about the T7’s, watching you change can clean air filters just by removing a few screw makes me pretty jealous😅 but 100% back prefilters. Checked my main filters at 10,000 and they looked brand new even tho my prefilters were nasty.
It's pretty dumb where some manufacturers put a regular maintenance item like the air filter 🤦♂️ Couldn't believe it when I saw where the Africa Twin's is located... kinda expect it from team orange but not Honda 😁
Haven't tested that side of it yet mate but I imagine the pre filter would get a splash of water on it same as my Unifilter did, doubt if it would be enough to cause a problem but will see next time I can be bothered washing the bike 😁
Shit you just gave me another job to do, both our bikes have about the same amount of k’s so I better check my air filter properly, my need to do this upgrade 👍
The hole in the bottom of the old filter was obviously melted through with some kind of backfiring in the intake. I don't see any reason for the new filter to avoid the same problem.
It looks like Rocky Mountain stock Funnelweb but I can't find the T7 stuff on their site, however it appears as though the Official Aussie Funnelweb online store will ship them worldwide so maybe check that out 👍 www.funnelwebfilter.com.au/product-category/yamaha/tenere-700
Does running without the snorkle affect the mapping of the bike?? it was said not to cut to much off the snorkle, any problem with that on your test ??
Yeah I remember seeing something about that also, I don't know why... I doubt if it makes much difference because we're not adjusting the size of the intake port 🤷♂ My bike still runs like a dream I won't be losing any sleep over it 👌
Being running funnel web filters for years on multiple bikes. Great product
👌

Thanks mate 👍 I never had an issue running without the spring but then again my snorkel is cut a bit short so maybe that makes a difference.

Yeah they are very expensive, not sure why when filters for the EXC were half that price... they must think adventure riders are all rich!
