I had some issues, but one thing: the basic cake recipe is an awesome go-to for a lot of cakes. As far as the Russian buttercream: VERY buttery, butter, sweet butter, butter: needed to set in fridge. I also found the rum syrup was MORE than enough. The sogginess made the cake lurch when frosting. Mine wasn't as pretty as Natasha's or Natasha herself, but it was yummy.
Natasha I have to make it I LOVE all nut cakes and desserts and it reminds me of my childhood in Poland ,Where is walnut ice cream too? :) YUM I feel like Americans do not appreaciate much of nut desserts lol
hi natasha! i absolutely love ur channel and have tried alot of ur recipes. so,i made this cake a few weeks ago and it turned absolutely delicious ! so i made it again today but this time in a cupcake tray and this time the sponge was very hard,it kinda made a hard layer at the bottom and it was very hard to chew it.i dun know what went wrong . perhaps u might know what happened as i m just a teenager and i dun know much about baking! xxx
Hi Amal, this cake does not work well as cupcakes because it sticks to the wrappers and/or the pan since it does not have any fat in it, it sticks. Also, if it was dry and hard, it was probably overbaked, but even if it wasn't, this cake batter is not ideal for cupcakes. I hope that helps! :)
Because there is fat in it you will need to refrigerate it. If you leave it out for a while it will become to soft. You can refrigerate it or freeze it then let it come to room temperature before serving.
Natasha can we add the condensed milk and egg yolk pudding with heavy whipping cream instead of butter.will the frosting be good to decorate the cake.give me a reply.by
Since we’re making 1 cup of syrup, do I need to use 1/2 cup of syrup on each layer of cake for soaking? Or just few spoons? It seems a lot but wanna make sure I don’t end up with a dry cake either.

Just use a sugar and water mixture. Leave out the rum, it will still be the same.
You can use vanilla extract instead of rum coz that is what I used and it came out delicious @ sprinkles of fairy dust

If you bake in a single pan, you will need 3" walls. You also won't get more than 3 layers in a single pan.
