Has it really been 6 years already 😭!? I remember during my freshmen to senior year of Highschool in Oahu, downhill and freeride longboarding was my biggest hobby. Days which I lied to my parents saying I had clubs to attend to after school, when in reality I was out sliding on ditches and curves til sunset. I honestly don’t remember when I stopped skating, or even why. Fast forward to the end of 2019 and this video pops up on my recommendation, and it all came back to me! Sadly I live in Vegas now and there’s hardly any inclines here. But it’s awesome to remember a hobby that a lot of us loved and may even had forgotten because of how fast we’re growing up.
Right on and good to hear, I didnt have any personal experience teaching with top mounts until this past weekend but was really stoked on how the gf did on my arbiter kt proto.
I just want to say thank you to both Sean and Originalskateboards! This clip gave me hope that someday, the Swedish winter will go away and i can spend my time shredding both the Arbiter and the Apex 40! So thanks for this awesome video!
Hey Ants, you dont have it too bad man, we grew up in New Jersey right along with you. True. It is no San Fran, but there are some great hills out there if you start looking and dont mind driving (usually less than an hour). Have fun out there, hope to see you around NJ.
Good question. Depends on your trucks, the wheel shape and hub setting of your wheels and then (like @emptyboxlongboarding said) your risers. I have had 65mms on the overhead but they were side set. With a riser you could likely go 70mm but it would be a weird ass setup haha
Hey Ayanna! Hilly made a great suggestion. The Pintail 37 would be a great board for cruising and is easy to learn on since it's low and stable. -Lindsay
I drove down to San Fran from Canada on new years to get away from the snow and skated around a lot of the city. There are some incredible spots and some very sketchy hills. Some of the best was in South San Fran where they have brand new roads and a walking path that goes for several miles around the bay.
Boards start at well under $100.00, heck even if you take some street trucks etc and just throw them on a deck at least you are riding. That or mow a few lawns, I can't tell you how many lawns I have mowed / saturday mornings I have sacrificed to get a new deck. First step is out the door, from there it gets easier... until you get the board at which point doing any work at all gets a lot more difficult haha
Basically we maxed out the wheel clearance on the Arbiter. We did four different thicknesses. Most of the calculation was based off of "half plies"; basically we would program the CNC to take off a half ply more or less, and then cut different versions. It seems like wheel wells would be easy, but too thin and you get torsional flex, too thick; you get wheelbite. The Arbiter is tuned to that sweetspot. No torsional, max well depth. Any deeper and it just wouldnt be as awesome.
First I would look at something like a Pintail 40 which would be a great, flexy, cruiser. Maneuverable and a lot of fun for carving. It is very low with Original trucks which makes it nice for pushing. If you wanted something lower yet again the Drop Freeride is a great option that has a kick for dropping curbs etc. If you are into the whole freestyle / trick game the Apexes are pretty awesome for city riding, as is the Derringer (just because it is so small, light and easy to carry)
It's made with 9 plys of maple so it's a stiffer deck, meant for stability during higher speed riding. You could run that set up without getting wheelbite for sure. -Lindsay
Both great boards, Arbiter KT is better if you have smaller hills or like having a full kicktail for more frequent ollies etc. Arbiter has a smaller kick but more length in the wheelbase which can help with stability if you are new to going fast. Each has advantages, personally if I had to choose one I *think* it would be the Arbiter KT just because its a little more versatile for the stuff I like to do, and I don't have a ton of super fast super long hills anywhere near where I live.
You can learn on this board, but it may not be super easy. If you're just starting out, you may want to look into the Pintail series for low and stable cruisers. They are easy to push because they are so low, and they carve easily because of the spring loaded trucks. -Lindsay
Holy shit, i haven't longboarded since september, and honestly this video almost brought me to tears, i miss this sport like crazy, snow please go away so i can start longboarding again!
Hey Andrei, I would suggest the Abec11 Flashbacks in 78a or 81a. They are very smooth for cruising and sliding. They are one of my personal favorites wheels and will serve you well! _Davey
Hey, we have two boards in that range. The Manhattan 27 and the Derringer 28, both are great mini boards and are awesome for cruising. The Manhattan is a stiff cruiser with a kick tail and humble kick nose, which makes it fun for manuals. The Derringer is has a bit more standing platform and has a fun flex to it. _Davey
Yeah man, the more the merrier. I say go for it. What kind of riding are you looking to do Hasy? The stuff in this video is pretty downhill focused which is something to seriously consider if you have the hills for it. I know you said you wanted to do some cruising / sliding, I'm just trying to get a sense of whether or not you think you might focus on higher speed stuff down the line. If yes, I would check out the Arbiter 36, the Drop Freeride 41 and the Maven 35.
Hey As, What kind of riding do you want to do and how tall / heavy ate you? Also what kind of riding do you want to do? That stuff is key to choosing the right board and any advice you get really needs top stay with you and what you want. Let us know and e can prob help.
Hey Joshem, the Pintails are great for carving and cruising but can also handle some tricks and slide. Normally just basic stuff but you can learn a good amount on them before buy a more trick focused board. _Davey
So many new faces coming through Original, but Sean, I hope you stay with Original for a bit. Like you're style man, if there wasn't snow on the ground I'd go out right now!
I recently bought my first longboard(a used riviera) but want to upgrade it and have been looking at your site for pretty much a week now but cant decide! What I want to do: cruise with some small sliding BUT I also want to learn to dance and do some light tricks.. And I kinda know what i need for cruising/sliding but the crux is, i cant find anything on dancing or is that just no difference on any boards?(was thinking stiffness etc)
Hey original, I am 5'4 120 lbs and going to be getting a pintail 37 soon for mainly carving, and some possible downhill around the neighborhood. I have one question though, If I get the medium tension springs to cut down on speed wobble will I still have the great carving ability with my weight? Please reply because I'm so stoked to get it.
What wheels exactly are you using in this video? And what would you recommend to slide better(wheels and deck/board ). I've never done intense sliding, i have a pintail 40 from Original with everything that comes with a basic apart from the wheels, i bought Orangatangs and ditched the Kryptonics that came with the borad.
