Being longer and having a second set of wings ensures maximum maneuverability that doesn't diminish a lot as he grows bigger and heavier. And he's fierce af. From a fighting perspective he's the ideal war dragon in my opinion followed by Vhagar
Balerion only ever fought one other dragon and that was the comparatively puny quicksilver. Balerion is the most powerful dragon in the history of Westeros, but sunfyre has the most impressive record imo I'm convinced if Sunfyre had lived for as long as Balerion,his eventual peak would have put even the Black Dread to shame, considering how powerful he already was at a much younger age

I'd hardly call Vermithor friendly, he's been without rider for like 25 years, and later he does kill at least one person who tried to claim him (possibly more, we'll see how they handle it in the show)

I think it actually has to do with how the dragons grew up over the years. In GRRM's lore, he says that the size of the lair when the dragons grow will factor into how large they grow (or something to that effect). Arrax started in the dragon pit immediately and made his lair in the dragon pit. In contrast, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion spent their life in the open skies, and little to no time in a den like area. Drogon is bigger than Rhaegal and Viserion because the latter two ended up being chained up for a few months before they were set free - in the show, it was Tyrion. In the books, I can't remember who. Meanwhile Drogon flew around and did as he pleased. It is entirely possible that Rhaegal and Viserion would have been able to catch up to Drogon in growth given time, but they obviously didn't get that chance. And who knows how they'll perish in the books. But I do think all three of them will in one way or another, I'll be surprised if they don't.

While watching this you could realize how big Dany’s dragon really grew. Even if Viserion and Rhaegal were locked up they still grew pretty big at the age of 7 which is very VERY young ( which is also sad because they were so young when they were killed ). Syrax and many other dragons were at least the size of season 5 Drogon or at least a little bit more bigger than that even though they were much older than him. At the end of the season, Drogon was 7-8 years old and huge. I get that all 3 dragons had pretty much a lot of freedom to grow pretty large but still.
6:22 Silverwing is less of a companion to Vermithor and more of a mate. Having their riders being husband and sister-wife to each other for like fifty years certainly helped them have a closer bond than most dragons have with each other. They probably hatched within a year of Jace and Luc. Not sure exactly how long it takes for dragon eggs to hatched after being placed in the cradle, but not usually very long.
Alicent's comment doesn't make any sense though. Dragons can bond with riders with Targaryen blood which Rhaenyra's children have. Same with Laenor. Dragons don't care if their riders were the product of a lawful relationship or an affair :))
It’s because they kept the dragon’s housed in the dragon pit. If they had allowed the dragons to run free and hunt on their own they would definitely be bigger. That’s why some are bigger than some of the others. Like in GOT drogon was bigger than viserion and Rhagal because he wasn’t chained up

That's why Rhaegal and Viserion were smaller and slower than Drogon as they were chained up in Meereen.They were not that skilled as Drogon was in the world, hunting and maneuvering around, so they were slower and perhaps - that's why they were easier to kill in the end.

I see alot of people complaining about sizes and while some might not be accurate to what george rr martin invisioned, it's made pretty clear in the books that not all dragons grow at the same speed, a good example of this Is how meraxes was stated to be larger than than vhagar despite being younger or how vhagar was said to be close to balerions size at her death despite being about 20 years younger when she died.
Arrax is definetely not 6. Luce is 14 in epsiode 10 and his egg was put in his cradle. It definitely wasnt 8 years before his egg hatched, given that Laena told Rhaena that her egg wasnt going to hatch after not doing so for so long. Arrax should be close to Luce's age. Same with Vermax, he would be close to Jace's age of 16 Also just gotta say, that dragon that attacked Aemond was Seasmoke, not Dreamfyre. Yeah dreamfyre is older since her first rider was jaehaerys older sister rhaena, she was the one who started the tradition of cradle-eggs, rhaena placed the eggs of vermithor and silverwing's eggs on her younger siblings, also dreamfyre was describe to be a small dragon but because of her being kept at the dragon pits it drastically made her growth slower but that still doesn't explain why vermithor looking so old

I think this video is a bit wrong on at least ages of the dragons. Arrayx, Vermax and Syrax were older than he said. Syrax alone over 30 years old. Rhaenyra first rode her when Rhaenyra was 7 years old, meaning the dragon was probably around 5-7 years old. She would be very close in age to Rhaenyra, whom was around 34 in episode 10.
They're made Dreamfyre totally black in the serie right ? And for Meleys age she's was born around 75 or77 A.C so it's means she is now around 52 , 55 years old corrige me if i'm wrong.

Firstly because Vermithor is a male (they’re generally bigger than females) and secondly Dreamfyre has spent half her life in the Dragon Pit. Dragons never stop growing, but only do so according to the size of their surroundings. She’s basically been caged. Vermithor has spent at least half his life free following the death of King Jaehaerys, so has had open lands to grow (free dragons are always larger). I’ve read the books and the show is pretty accurate with the dragon sizes, apart from Vhagar is perhaps a bit too big, but she is about 180 years old. You have to think that Vermithor is the 2nd largest and is 100. Caraxes is only 50!

Don’t be fooled mate. Caraxes is a Wyrm (almost snake like as in the book). You also need to remember that he’s deformed, so while he can’t roar properly and has a small body, he has wings on his back legs which makes him very fast (only Meleys is quicker) and a long neck which gives him great reflexes. He’s also highly intelligent (perhaps the smartest of all the dragons) and by far the most aggressive because he has to compensate for his deformity. The author has said that the 2 most powerful dragons are Vhagar and Caraxes. In the book Caraxes was always my favorite because of how unique he looks and he’s also a bit of a nutter.

Caraxes looks like a mixture of a Chinese dragon or hydra.
While watching this you could realize how big Dany’s dragon really grew. @@woudanborson2778 From what we have seen clearly Caraxes is larger than her, Meleys in the throne room approaching the greens you could see from the size of her head and her fitting through the throne room door whereas Caraxes moved a large ship by simply flying next to it and not being able to get into a large cave entrance in the stepstones.

I think this video is a bit wrong on at least ages of the dragons. Arrayx, Vermax and Syrax were older than he said. Syrax alone over 30 years old. Rhaenyra first rode her when Rhaenyra was 7 years old, meaning the dragon was probably around 5-7 years old. She would be very close in age to Rhaenyra, whom was around 34 in episode 10.
Dreamfyre is quite small for her age.
Meleys was originally ridden by Alyssa, the mother of Visarys and Daemon.

The only problem is that they said that Caraxes was a 57 meters long monster... Meleys only 49-51 meters long from nose to the tip of the tail...
And I think your sizes are off because you said arrax is 50 ft but vhagar is only 250ft. Arrax is like the length off her head.
yeah, they made vhagar huge in the show. In books, she is huge as well, but arrax is supposed to be like 5-6 times smaller.

I don't understand how dreamfyre and vermithor are both 100 years old and yet one is double the size of the other lmao
Firstly because Vermithor is a male (they’re generally bigger than females) and secondly Dreamfyre has spent half her life in the Dragon Pit. Dragons never stop growing, but only do so according to the size of their surroundings. She’s basically been caged. Vermithor has spent at least half his life free following the death of King Jaehaerys, so has had open lands to grow (free dragons are always larger).
I’ve read the books and the show is pretty accurate with the dragon sizes, apart from Vhagar is perhaps a bit too big, but she is about 180 years old. You have to think that Vermithor is the 2nd largest and is 100. Caraxes is only 50!

And they wanted to make Syrax way bigger in the finale but there was no budget left for it so they used the same model from the beginning. I know drogon in s8 also is often depicted as the same size if not slightly smaller than caraxes but he’s definitely way bulkier than caraxes to me and in general way stronger looking

Because Dany let her dragons be free and let them fly around her all the time. Dragons grows faster if they are without chains. Except that one time when Drogon burned a child. she chained her other dragons. but most of the time she let her dragons be free.

caraxes looks so weak as a dragon, I wish they added some more muscular mass on him. He looks weak even tho this is the dragon whose name I like the most
Don’t be fooled mate. Caraxes is a Wyrm (almost snake like as in the book). You also need to remember that he’s deformed, so while he can’t roar properly and has a small body, he has wings on his back legs which makes him very fast (only Meleys is quicker) and a long neck which gives him great reflexes.
He’s also highly intelligent (perhaps the smartest of all the dragons) and by far the most aggressive because he has to compensate for his deformity.
The author has said that the 2 most powerful dragons are Vhagar and Caraxes. In the book Caraxes was always my favorite because of how unique he looks and he’s also a bit of a nutter.
