@@MikelBluni thanks! Yeah that thing really has a vibe, it's a lovely combo to have. We're lucky with the prices these Marshalls are here compared to the US.
@@dborten1736 I think the Creambacks tightens it up. When I tried the head through a closed back 2x12" with Greenbacks it was a whole different experience. To me, the combo works much better.
My only issue with the combo as I returned 3 of em... was the tube rattle. Soon as I bought the head and cab it was perfect. I run a JHS black box in the effects loop and can crank it to get the sweet crunch. Suprisingly it works good. But when I want reverb in the effects loop, I run a soulfood or bos sd1 to get it crunchy at lower volumes, while maintaining the clear reverb. Love this amp.

Brother!!! We are on the same journey. Nice rig and great picking. I pair my JTM studio with a Mesa California Tweed. It’s a really good lower volume “Charlie Star” kinda setup. I do have the 1x12” expansion cab from Marshall. Try a Boss GE 7 eq pedal to knock off just a little of the low end. I knock off the 100, 200 and bump up the 400hz ever so slightly. Made add a little boost. I play in a small space 10x12 out building. It’s as good as it gets at 85db. I also run a OX box on the JTM studio with the 8010 genelec studio monitors. So I’m running the 4x12 Marshall cab sims as well. It’s really amazing for lower volumes. The power scaling in the Mesa is no joke. From 40 down to 2 watts it sounds great. I played a Gibson Falcon 2x10 at the garage in Nashville. It’s kinda of a Tweed / Bassman/ JTM 45 kinda deal. It’s on my radar. Thanks for sharing your experiences and time.
@@Hiline1970 thanks for taking the time to comment! Sounds like a nice rig what you've got as well! I'm thinking about pairing it with my Z-Wreck Jr and using my Les Paul Junior and Esquire for a new project.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar Just a thought but, have you tried the UA lion through the combo cabinet? I have a UA 65 Dream that I run through the small Genelec 8010 monitors. I was thinking about trying a Lion through the effects loop. I really need a Genelec Sub or some larger Genelec monitors but, I was wondering about the 1x12 cabinet with the JTM power amp?
How much of a drawback is the 10'' speaker in the SV20C? Is the 12'' in this combo a main reason why you sold the SV20 and prefer this amp? I'm leaning towards the SV20c but concerned it'll have almost no low end..
@@gumaniroze I prefered the Studio Vintage as a head, and the Studio JTM as a combo. The Studio Vintage has less low end punch and thumb due to the smaller transformer and I didn't like the V-type speaker, although it was better with a 10" Greenback. The Studio JTM tightens up nicely with a Creamback and makes more sense as a combo to me. As a circuit, the SV is generally more my thing is it is more rocking, but it does one thing. As a grab and go combo with a pedalboard, you can do more with the Studio JTM though.
How is it at lower volumes, like 85ish DB, with humbuckers can you still get some drive in 5 watt mode? I don't use much gain, like edge of breakup or a little crunch.
@@RiperSnifle I don't use a lot of gain either. It does edge of breakup, but for enough classic rock crunch I need a pedal. A Timmy works well, especially to shave of some low end with humbuckers. And low volume is difficult, even on the 5 watt setting. You would either need an attenuator, a drive pedal or both if you want the amp to breathe enough.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar thanks for responding! Im lucky that I don't have to play SUPER low volume in my house, I have no neighbours one side and I get an hour a day as I get home before my partner does where I can turn the amp up. And also lucky she doesn't seem to mind me making some noise! Not gig or rehearsal level but still louder than a TV. Good to know. Thanks man. And great playing too
@@RiperSnifle thanks! If you don't have to play really quiet and you don't need to much gain from the amp, I think that could be done. But a small, affordable and decent working attenuator can make everything a bit easier. I don't know where you're located, but the one I got from P&P works well for this amp.
@@StevenAnthonyGuitar I'm in the UK. I don't use much gain at all. I have a Carr Sportsman which I love, it's kind of a Princeton reverb mixed with a tweed amp. Sounds fantastic. Recently acquired a Kingtone Duelist, but may have to let it go for a Greer lightspeed ... a pedal I've always wanted but always ended up buying something else instead and wishing I got a lightspeed instead lol. I feel the reason the SV20C has a 10inch instead of the 12 is to avoid this excessive bass which is the problem with the ST20c. I put in a 10" Creamback in a SV20c and voila, so much better and Creamier, pun intended.
@@kaputme the SV20C was out first, so I don't think the ST20C was the problem here. I've owned both and the SV20C could've used a different speaker, whereas I think the ST20C is okay with the 12" Creamback.
