      Worried about the need for deodorant? It may mean one needs more zinc in ones diet. If one decides to take a supplement, only do so on a full stomach! Zinc works for me.

      @Mr DejavuKing I should stick to letting professional therapists do this If I were you. The behaviour is only the half of it. It's managing the thought processes that accompany phobias that is the important bit. Yes I am a therapist BTW.

      @Mr DejavuKing I'm not sure why my comment unleashed such fury? I don't think that the addition of a sentence, or maybe even another would have made a difference. It seems that TH-cam does allow people to do away with their inhibitions and talk to people in a way that would be considered extremely rude if done face to face, but that is another story and another theory I won't bother you with. Am I the only one making generalised comments here? I think not.

    Fair plays to James, despite being a Lumix ambassador he's still honest in his appraisal of the auto focus system. Better but not quite on a par with Sony or Canons offerings. Someone from Lumix was probably cringing when he said that 🤣 Regardless, thanks for being honest James, a rare commodity nowadays.

On the other hand, Olympus is still down in the lower end of birds in flight competence compared to the other brands. And Olympus is kind of no more sad to say :(

    I'm pretty sure it won't make a scrap of difference.
    Before you splash the cash on that, you should draw up a short list of lenses covering, say, 16 mm to 300 or 600. Then calculate how much they will weigh, what bags you want, and what sweetener you are going to offer Emily.

    • @markedwards4787
      @markedwards4787 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is a rough example of weight differences between a g9 system and S5.. my g9 bag has g9 + olympus 12 40 pro + olympus 40 150 pro + 42.5 1.7 = 1929 g.. S5 set up COULD be - S5 + 20 60mm + 50mm + 70 300mm = 1853 g. The full frame is a lighter system, with arguable lens differences. perhaps better glass in the MFT set up, but the camera counteracts this with better performance sensor.

    As promised in an earlier comment, I am now having a fit. Not because of your move to full frame but because of my timing in acquiring a G9. All of the reasons for favoring M4/3 are still valid, nothing has changed in the camera-lens combination’s ability to produce stellar photos (and video including 10-bit 4-2-2). But the evil twins of gear lust and fear of missing out are making their presence known. Nattering away in the background. I think it’s time to turn my attention to learning Davinci Resolve. That ought to be enough to push them out of awareness. Quiet, dammit.

Now if they come out with some more pocketable primes like what Canon has with their 35 1.8 or Sony with their 85 1.8 or the Tamron and Samyang offerings, that's a real winner even for an everyday setup.

    Any time a big or expensive body or lens comes out for m43rds people comment about what a waste it is and that 'You might as well upgrade to Full Frame for the money'. I think what most Full Frame advocates fail to realize is that there is much more expense, sacrifice and commitment involved changing formats than simply purchasing a full frame camera body and lens.
    First off in general everything is bigger, heavier and more expensive. Full Frame can be almost as compact as m43rds but you are sacrificing the quality advantage of bigger glass to get it. In order to get that 2 stop advantage at the same aperture, you must use glass that is more or less twice as large and heavy. Having a compact FF body doesn't offer much of a quality advantage when you have to use similar sized glass as m43. You often also have to purchase new more expensive memory cards like dual XQD which can run several hundred extra dollars to get fast read/write speeds. If you use ND/Polarizing filters, you then must purchase them all over again for every single lens you choose to buy for the new system. New flashes, microphones, and basically any other accessory that will no longer be compatible with the new format. You have to learn an entirely new menu system which can take several months to adapt to and learn all the different features. FF cameras often only specialize in Photos and are weak in video options. Panasonic is starting to break that mold. But in general m43rds is a better hybrid system with a wide range of glass to choose from.
    If you add an extra m43rds body into the mix you can have a small travel camera system AND a larger professional system. I use the GX85 with a 20mm f1.7 and I can carry it with me in cargo pants or jackets everywhere. Then I can use the G9 body with the 10-25mm f1.7 along with a 35-100 f2.8 Zoom, flash and Mic in a shoulder bag to have a really powerful full range photo and video system getting most of the quality and range that FF cameras offer. I can always add a speedbooster with FF glass if I get desperate for extreme shallow depth of field and extra light.
    I was tempted with the S1 and the S5 also looks like a nice camera but after adding up expense and time investment VS. potential gains, I personally do not find it worth it if you already are in the m43rds system.

    • @giac01
      @giac01 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Micro four thirds lenses are super expensive too. Sigma and tamron ff lenses are pretty cheap compared to native m43 lenses. I think with some of these new ff systems the existing glass is limited and expensive, but give it time...

    • @borderlands6606
      @borderlands6606 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Bob Jones, I don't care about subject separation greater than f2, and slow full frame lenses are small and frequently less expensive than their m43 equivalents - especially like-for-like depth of field. I use m43 because I take a camera everywhere, and the GX80 and pancake zoom fits in a jacket pocket. Also, I get all the DOF at require at f4, not f8 on full frame.
      Large m43 cameras like the G9 and E-M1X have benefits, better ergonomics and button placement, but they're increasingly niche unless you're heavily invested in lenses, or someone who likes to carry their whole lens kit all the time. Micro four thirds is increasingly a video format, where advantages in stabilisation, weight and price are in favour of the smaller format.

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As much as I agree with your scenario, and own similar gear myself, let me offer another scenario. Canon Shooter (CS) is sick of Canon's poor video performance and goes to the GH3 or GH4. CS already has a bunch of Canon glass, buys a Speedbooster and Sigma 18-35, and makes a bunch of very nice videos for travel, commercial, narrative or documentary purposes. Upgrades to GH5 or GH5S for better low light conditions. But the m43 system lacks truly good colour and high ISO performance, so CS starts looking elsewhere. With a S5 and EF adapter, all can use all their existing Canon glass, taking complete advantage of full frame lenses, and still able to use the Sigma in aps-c mode. All filters, XLR adapter, even tripod and slider would remain the same because the S5 is the same size and weight as the GH5.
      You see, I'm in the second boat. I went to m43 from Canon and still own a 5D Mark II with glass. The S5 can plug straight into my kit with zero hassle and considerable gain. It will give me most of the video advantages of the GH5 and G9 but also the stills quality of the S1, and superior dynamic range and colours of full v log and v gamut.
      Yes, for a pure m43 shooter, it's an expensive upgrade. But for the scenario I proposed above, it's not. And given how many ex Canon shooters use their old lenses with the GH5, it's not uncommon.

      Disagree. It's about the joy of taking photos and cost. I had the MFT with a G85 for many years. Fast lenses are very expensive with MFT. I brought a 2nd hand (like new) Nikon D750 a 2nd hand 50mm and 35mm 1.4 for not much more than a new G9. The depth of field is like art. It's a joy. It's fun. I can be much more creative. Once the lens selection expands, you'll have access to lighter, more portable lenses. There have been some good, lightweight lenses for E mount now that the super fast, large aperture lens market is saturated. Some 1.8 or 2.8 primes on this bad boy would be a ton of fun! I discovered your channel today and loved it very much, it's extremely helpful and motivating. But watching the video about you ditching full frame (actually the vid which landed me onto your channel) then the video about you praising your 4/3 experience and then the video about you moving back to full frame, and watching all those vids almost in a row was quite weird :D I understand that time flies and personal preferences change, but still amuzing.
    Bad thing is that it probably proves that 4/3 system gonna die very soon, the compact niche gonna be filled 100% by phones and the "pro" niche with full frame and multi-kg lenses. And I hate both phones and heavy full frame gear which makes me deadly tired after first hour of carrying it :( Depression.

I get sooooooo bored listening to people that just got sent stuff (bikes, coffee, cameras... pretty much insert sponsored thing here) raving on and on about how MORE IS SO MUCH BETTER YOU NEED MORE AND NEW! IT MUST BE NEW! AND NEW AND MORE! WHOA. Lovely to hear an extremely talented photographer talk about having a single body and being more thoughtful about things. The problem of heavy lenses for full frame may be resolved by Panasonic. They are introducing relatively small primes to go with the L-mount cameras. The first is the new 85mm. It's also cheap, some $600.

Do you think the s5 is a great full fre upgrade from the g9? How Sharpness and picture quality compare to the g9? • @MeAMuse
    @MeAMuse 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lol. I think I commented when you switched to M4/3 that people tend to want what they don't have. E.g. you switch to a lighter system - you will compromise low light capability and IQ... then you miss the IQ and low light - so decide it's worth switching back....then you hate it being heavy again. The only way I have got around it is to have options and decide what you are taking with you at any point. Personally I chose the Sony platform (back in about 2014) because it allowed me to have the same lens mount for both FF and APS-C, but these days I don't think that it matters which camera system someone chooses - they are all great. What I am hoping to see at some point is some smaller FF lenses but at higher apertures. People are happy with an F2.8 for M4/3, why not make a light F5.6 lens that is sharp. I am super intrigued by the Canon 600mm F11 and such, also hearing about a Sony pancake zoom that is coming. Look forward to seeing how you get on with that S5.

    Not an m43 user but James' videos helped me not get caught up with the FF madness shooting a smaller sensor (Fuji APS-C). Crucial stretch coming up for m43 with Olympus gone and Lumix seemingly prioritizing their FF offerings more over m43 the past couple of years. Heck Lumix sent James 2 Lumix S series cameras in 14 months, you can't really blame the guy for seeing where this is headed. Will still watch cuz actually curious on how Panasonic FF fares for photography since up til now the prominent influencers are mostly using the cameras for video.

    Full frame just needs more high quality slower lenses. You can get slow ff lenses which are sharper than m43 lenses and have the same weight, and the big sensor makes up for lower f stops, but theyre rarely very rugged (compared to like pro olympus lenses). Samyang make great light pancake primes for the fe system - hopefully they will bring some over to L mount.

Alternatives are good, but this one would not fit the bill for me. Nice to see that it does for you, and let's see how this goes …
