Me and my parents. My family is Christian and my parents raised me with Democratic and liberal values. They believe in treating people like people, just like Jesus did. They don’t care about people’s sexualities, and are horrified by conversion therapy. They are saddened when they see other Christians being horrible to others.

None of these people even know what that guy actually wrote, obviously, or they wouldn't say the ridiculous things about Marx and communism that they say. But they are all wearing "We know everything" shirts that even extend to things they obviously know nothing about. And in cults, there's the added element of losing everyone you love. Plus when you leave, you think you'll be 100% on your own. The kindness of "outsiders" can be the tipping point of ex cult members realizing they've been lied to. (It was for me!)
When you leave, you typically view yourself as the problem, not the cult or the leaders. When others are kind and you get along with strangers, it is the polar opposite of what the cult teaches you to expect.

I can relate. My wife was just starting to question her religion when we met. I made a point to never pressure her or make any attempts to influence her decision. I just made sure I was there to offer support and answer any scientific questions she may have. Eventually, she figured it out on her own and escaped the cult she was in. I say cult specifically regarding her individual church. It was quite an extreme group. I eventually found my way into a personal spirituality, and a relationship with Jesus and God / Spirit. It's a shame the good name is used so wrongly. When I read Alan Watts' essay called "Christianity: the religion of Jesus or about Jesus" it put into words for the first time why I'd always felt so uncomfortable with church and organized religion.

There is no constitutional basis for taxing a 501c3 Religious institution because it has political discourse. 1st Amendment.
SCOTUS (you know those 9 Catholic justices) would unanimously would rule against.
They would find that taxing churches for having political speech unconstitutional and would require the taxation of all Charities.
97+% of American churches would pay zero taxes on what amounts to zero revenue.
The 2% that would, will be taxed using corporate tax structure.... Meaning they'll just adjust the accounting to void out any profit.

Years ago I attended a calvalry chapel church with my husband. Right from the start the cultiness was obvious. I remember the day that Bush was elected and the pastor was greeting everyone at the door excited about it. He said to me, "we got our guy in."
I looked him dead in the eye and said, "He's not my guy." I thought he was going to have a stroke. I went for a couple years mostly because there was nothing else to do in that area and I did know a couple people from work but they always seemed of kilter to me. They'd mock people who care about the environment. I still don't understand their disrespect to the creation. They'd say tree huggers are foolish because we worship the creation and not the creator. I don't know, but I call it having respect for the creation and caring for the gift you've been given.
When I went, I was pretty much shuned for my beliefs. I did yoga, which was frowned upon. I respect homeosexuals. I hug trees and so on.
When I finally left I had so many friends that i didnt know i had. I was getting calls from women with the worst excuses to try and get me back in the cult. I watched them do this to the husband of a woman that split also. They're thoughts we're if you don't go any longer it's because you are convicted of a sin and not walking right with the Lord.
I got out but my other half hasn't. Until recently, he left prostelization cards around the house and would send me videos.

This is basically my exact story. I was raised in the evangelical conservative southern baptist world. My father is a pastor. I went to church every time the doors were open. I voted for Trump in 2016 because I believed that Clinton and the Dems were coming after Christians and that Trump would protect us from this perceived persecution. I started pulling away in 2020 when I began to see how radically politicized church and religion had become. If you don't worship at Trump's altar, you are not a "real Christian." I have since pulled my support from the church, Christianity, and Trump. It's appalling that even after so many horrible things have come out about Trump, the Christians are still hailing him as God's man. The willful ignorance is astounding.

Let me tell you something...I have been a registered Democrat since I could start voting at 18. I am a Christian, and I work at a church. I know EXACTLY what you are talking about when you say it's ALMOST impossible to get through to a Christian who has been told the Republican party is the only way to vote because everyone else is against your faith if they aren't an American Republican. The reason I say "ALMOST" is because there are people like you, who I feel are the stronger people, braver people, who lived in that world, and still came out understanding the truth. Just because you voted for Trump in 2016 doesn't mean you should feel ashamed of who you are. You're stronger than you think, and I for one am glad there are people like you in this country who have learned from mistakes made in the past. You do realize that your religion allows for slavery. It also says 14 times people shouldn’t eat shrimp. Picking & choosing pieces out of a book, isn’t following the religion. Follow only what Jesus said, & you’ll probably do fine. If you listen to the rest, you’re expected to have a lot of rules to follow, as well as not letting women talk in churches, or teach, or vote. It clearly spells out slavery & how to properly use your slaves. Stop defending Christians, because so many people are hurt by this particular religion, using the Bible as justification, it’s amazing. I can’t tell you the last time I’ve heard of any church helping to house the homeless, or donate to the immediate community. Most churches just have an annual giveaway or donate clothes to goodwill & write everything else off on their taxes. Why do people pay salaries of a preacher that is supposed to preach for free - not be a tax free money lender? My illusion of Christians was shattered when I found out what is actually taught at seminary schools. It’s how to make your church profitable, how to file paperwork for tax free exemptions, & how to convince people to give more money. People stay blind to what they choose not to see. Tax the church, if they want to make political decisions.

She just wanted everyone to be able to celebrate whatever their beliefs. To top it off, our parents had the Koran, the Talmud, the Bible - all in our home, and encouraged us: ‘go read, and if you’re interested, that’s fine, but we - your parents - just aren’t’. Owners could be skipping the paper targets at the range, to instead join a hunt club/militia to kill live, human-sized, moving targets, which better represents why they own guns. Therefore, why go to church to learn about God when there's a Trump rally one county over, or you can watch Fox News 24/7? @@owensomers8572 I don't know her background, but it does not appear to be mormon from my experience. She said, "a lot of these churches use big name prophets" they use to sway the vote. Mormons would say "prophet" (singular), but really, the only time you're going to hear a mormon prophet speak is twice a year during a broadcasted conference. She seems to be referring more to just big names that travel between mega churches or something (Kenneth Copeland-type vibes).
Mormon prophets don't talk politics (they know how to skirt the law). Instead, they will send letters to local congregation leaders (bishops & stake presidents) to instruct members to vote their conscious. Sometimes (like during Prop 8 in California) that will also include added statements, like "one man and one woman is god's plan".
Again, I don't know, but it ultimately does not matter. It's good that she changed her mind. It'd be nice if there was "one answer" to help all change their minds on this, but people are too different and unique for such a singular answer to exist.

Props to her for coming forward telling her story. She put herself in a very vulnerable position & assumes her past decisions and story. That takes courage nowadays, especially in a world where nobody wants to take their own responsability.

We all make regrettable decisions, it’s part of the human experience. The only people who should be ashamed are the people who don’t learn from their mistakes. The admission of her mistakes in this video, along with her ability to pinpoint the inaccurate information from her childhood that contributed to them, establishes her as an honorable person in my opinion.❤🙏🏾
