There is definitely no reason to fight about speed here. If you look at the rest of Tzvi Erez's videos you will see that he is more than capable of playing this piece faster, yet he still chose to play it at a slower speed. There is a reason for it.
not just this piece. Tzvi Erez is splendid across Bethoven, Chopin etc. To my taste - I tried tens of variations of interpretations by different masters - this is something out standing. Now it's a reference to me how it should be played. Glad that I've found this Pianist and can enjoy music as it should be. Next step is to hear all this live.
In my opinion, this is the best version forever... I think the tempo is great. I think it's unnecessary play fast like a sick demon like many around. The sound it's very clean and pleasant.
Because people tend to have the urge of criticizing everything. Most of them can't accept there are outstanding musicians out there, they need to say something against them to feel better. The only thing true and clear here is that this is, by far, the best interpretation of this piece (my favorite one of all time imo) around the web. Congratulations mr. Erez, you did an unbelievable work on this one.
Mind what you say. This is not even a song. It is a musical composition. Clearly you know enough about music to tell others what to say and what not to say.
Thanks for playing with expression! geez some of these players are so worried about playing perfectly they forget that people actually want to hear passion.
wow...wow....amazing pace, crystal clear notes, feather light when you needs to, hard mean punch when you got to......thank you MR Tzvi Erez, your version are simply amazing.
The best version EVER! I LOVE your Beethoven Piano Works CD with all the Mvts! In fact, I have ALL of your CDs and I LOVE them ALL. They contain the best classical piano playing I have EVER heard! You are truly amazing!!!!!
Your right Michael. I came here after reading your comment about V. Lisitsa. I have this on a CD and have listened to this honestly over 1'000 times in my car which has a stereo system more expensive then most cars. I play it over and over and nothing else. The recording is perfect and the first time I decided to listen to others playing this on TH-cam I got freaked out by their simple mistakes. This is the closest to that perfect recording. Thanks for directing me to Tzvi Erez's version.
I've listened to so many versions of this song, but in so many the pianist seems to focus on showing off how fast he can play and just destroys the elegance that actually exists in this song. Thanks for this version Tzvi!
@101elton101 Yes & Yes. Although no marked, I like using the soft pedal on the runs, and explode the chords. The sustain pedal is used throughout (carefully) on and off.
love the slower pace in beethoven's presto pieces, as it brings the emotional aspect of the piece out and you can hear clearly the melodic subjects. great performance!
Wish I had your talent. Still a high school musician, but I'm building up for this piece, because I really want to learn it before my senior year. The best interpretation Ive seen.
You are very, very good sir! U can strangely morph /adopt into prob any style/pianist/and its temper with such ease. Its confusing. Aside from that ...One of the things what hooks me most is your control. Just before it gets almost too fast/flaboyant.....You drop it into such fragility & tenderness in a split second, it is insane. You are one of the most talented pianists around. In my opinion. 🥰
It's amazing how a person, a human being, same as us no more no less in our origin, our making, was able to conceive the essence of music in all of its entirety to craft such a piece and many more before and even beyond this. A man who's look and demeanor was that of a madman with the fury of hell and sheer strength and bluntness can construct many a powerful, sharp and elegant piece as this: The Presto Agitato Moonlight Sonata. Still a man nonetheless, but a great one: Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Fantastic rendition. I know it's supposed to be fast, but it's also part of a Beethoven sonata and so many performances are just all about speed with none of the dynamics and passion. This is excellent.
The way you played it--is my favorite! Amazing phrasing. Not too fast, definitely not slow. Its perfect, I dont liek it when its played too fast. At this speed you can appreciate all the notes.
what are you talking about this song has been here for hundreds of years. its a great piece not to mention the first movement of this song is really slow, this is the 3rd movement of the same song so mind what you say please.
That was one of the best things I've ever heard in my life as rendered by a headphone...which also just so happens to be Austrian, the AKG Q701. Wow. Amazing performance, and unbelievable sound quality.
Folks, just shut up and listen. I finished music school. I do stereos. I know both music AND equipment. This is the best there's. In approach and recording quality. Those who talk about speed have no clue whatsoever about true spirit of this music and should go and listen to Valentina Lisitsa who successfully made a parody out of this masterpiece (she has no clue about correct timing/pace, and cannot see beyond technical). Tzvi Erez has my deepest respect, as he goes for the soul of the music.
How incredibly rude. They are both very good, and Valentina manages to play it fast and capture the spirit of the music, in the same way this pianist also captures the spirit of the music whilst playing it more slowly. Don't bad mouth extremely talented musicians just because you think it's 'too fast'.
I usually have heard this Awesome piece in a furious, rocketing tempo...but I think this is greatly satisfying the musical aspect of it, I really like it
I.m going to practice this song, so i can play it on the wedding of my sister, i love her because she was always there for me. And to thank her for everything she did for me i want to play this for her!
I like this performance better than most on TH-cam. While Beethoven said it is to be played "fast and agitated", many players take that way to far. It's not supposed to be "gone-to-plaid and pissed-off". Erez has the right balance.
Excelente interpretación. Da gusto conocer las calidades profesionales de quien seguramente ama la musica como a su propia vida. Felicitaciones. Estaré ansioso de conocer nuevas melodías.
I really enjoyed your technique and I don't care about the speed as well, I prefer to listen this piece like this way rather than a fast one cuz in this one you expressed more feelings! 1000 thumbs up for me Thanx for this piece :) keep it up
Me being just a beginner "pianist", I have to say this looks incredibly hard to do, so my hat off to you. It seems like you've been playing a really long time, and I want to be just as good. Keep it up! (:
WAW! WAW! This is pure music! Pure Beethoven! The sound of that old Bosendorfer and your version really touched me! I used to play this movement almost like you! It made me recall that I was a pianist.
I've heard this song all my life and I absolutely love this version. I especially like how you did what I like to call the dance at 1:11. Thank you. I also like how I got here from an Andrew Bird video. :)
Thank you! In many cases it is much harder to play slower than faster.
Best tempo ever. I don't know why so many pianist (most of them very famous!) play this in a fastest tempo. cheers!
There is definitely no reason to fight about speed here. If you look at the rest of Tzvi Erez's videos you will see that he is more than capable of playing this piece faster, yet he still chose to play it at a slower speed. There is a reason for it.
I just love how bass notes are played here, and the phrasing! Lovely! Can't get enough of your interpretations!
Bravo!
+Daniel L Thank you!

Holy cow... I've had this song playing in my head for 5 days straight and finally found it! So satisfying!

Just amazing. It's a complete honor to hear you master this piece.
Mind what you say. This is not even a song. It is a musical composition. Clearly you know enough about music to tell others what to say and what not to say.
Wer so Klavier spielt gehört in den Olymp. Danke Tzvi Erez!
It amazes that a man with out the the sense of hearing could write something as amazing and powerful as this
The best version of this song I've ever heard on piano.
Thanks for playing with expression! geez some of these players are so worried about playing perfectly they forget that people actually want to hear passion.
That Bosendorfer o_o
Not only is Mr. Erez quite the amazing player,
he has quite the amazing instrument to match!
wow...wow....amazing pace, crystal clear notes, feather light when you needs to, hard mean punch when you got to......thank you MR Tzvi Erez, your version are simply amazing.
@ragtimest Thank you! The keys on my Bosendorfer are the original Ivory keys from the year 1912.
The best version EVER! I LOVE your Beethoven Piano Works CD with all the Mvts! In fact, I have ALL of your CDs and I LOVE them ALL. They contain the best classical piano playing I have EVER heard! You are truly amazing!!!!!
BEAUTIFUL!!!
Bravo. This is one of my "obsession" pieces that I keep playing for years and years... and you play it very well.
totally agree.. music isn't about how fast you can push the keys in a pre ordered way... music is when you let your soul speak thru the keys..

That Bosendorfer though. Beautiful instrument and playing!
Out of there, many genius wallking around.this man is one of them...
@101elton101 Yes & Yes. Although no marked, I like using the soft pedal on the runs, and explode the chords. The sustain pedal is used throughout (carefully) on and off.
Best tempo I've heard yet on this piece.
Beautiful tempo. I feel like I can enjoy the melody more without feelings like it's too fast! :) JUST BEAUTIFUL
So true. Seems like many that play this are just trying to show off.
Same here :D
My fingers are SOOOOOO tired after playing up to 1:28 of the video, Still learning the whole song though [: I love the power in this piece.
Just Amazing, i think this is the best version i heard
This is so insanely complex, fast, and perfect, that my browser is having trouble playing it!!! Awesome work mr. Erez!
love the slower pace in beethoven's presto pieces, as it brings the emotional aspect of the piece out and you can hear clearly the melodic subjects. great performance!
Best tempo! I love it
I wonder how could it feel to become such an amazing person everytime I sit in front of a piano !
I just played this song on Magic Piano and i think Beethoven is lucky to not have heard my version
The sound of your piano is so beautiful !!
I love his tempo, way more reasonable than most other performances on TH-cam
surely best version, thank you Mr. Erez
Wish I had your talent. Still a high school musician, but I'm building up for this piece, because I really want to learn it before my senior year. The best interpretation Ive seen.
seems like the best version.
Far, far beyond the technique! Mr. Tzvi's hands just put out everything he wants exactly as he does!

My favorite interpretation on TH-cam thus far. Bravo!

This should have a billion views. Extremely well done.. extremely.
Fantastic rendition. I know it's supposed to be fast, but it's also part of a Beethoven sonata and so many performances are just all about speed with none of the dynamics and passion. This is excellent.
Это просто нечто! Одни из лучших исполнений!
Ecouter la beauté et regarder ces mains danser, voler sur le piano...c'est la pureté de la soie dans la maîtrise de l'art.
Breathtaking performance. Those restless fingers surely know their way around.
This kind of performances are the ones that inspire me to do my best. Thanks for being my motivation. AMAZING
The way you played it--is my favorite! Amazing phrasing. Not too fast, definitely not slow. Its perfect, I dont liek it when its played too fast. At this speed you can appreciate all the notes.

For me the speed and loud music shows the fear, emotion, and anger of a person. I don't know but that's just me
It is a standard run up, but the last 4 notes I use 5-3-4-5
I just discovered Mr Erez through his Chopin ballads and I am truly enchanted by his talent.
That was one of the best things I've ever heard in my life as rendered by a headphone...which also just so happens to be Austrian, the AKG Q701. Wow. Amazing performance, and unbelievable sound quality.
This video reminded me of my love for playing the piano. Great job, and a deep thank you
Incredible. Such precision. It blows me away.
for me the best version !
That was incredible.
Wow, that was great. If I ever saw the sheet music, I'd have a heart attack.

Good job!Great tempo---So nice to hear someone play this musically, and not make a competition out it/see how fats they can play it.
Just Awesome !!! No matter how many times I watch this vid you amaze me. Thank You !
dat right hand... you are awesome Mr. Erez...
How incredibly rude. They are both very good, and Valentina manages to play it fast and capture the spirit of the music, in the same way this pianist also captures the spirit of the music whilst playing it more slowly. I.m going to practice this song, so i can play it on the wedding of my sister, i love her because she was always there for me. And to thank her for everything she did for me i want to play this for her!
For me slower paces provoke me. Fast, but well placed notes soothe me. Truly.
Breathtaking! Thank you so very much sir for sharing your enormous talent with us. Hats down!!!
Incredible performance. Just wonderful. Thank you for posting this!

This piece sounds so devilish yet innocent.. that's what I love about it.
I really enjoyed your technique and I don't care about the speed as well, I prefer to listen this piece like this way rather than a fast one cuz in this one you expressed more feelings! 1000 thumbs up for me Thanx for this piece :) keep it up
Fantastic! Wonderful technique and control.

Very nice ! and not too fast for a change, thank you !
5:54 I've never thought to dwell on those chords as you have. I'll have to try it with my interpretation and see if it fits. Beautiful

It's very nice performance. Thanks for sharing it!
Brilliant. I am three pages in and am almost ready to give up haha.
