CPE Bach - Solfeggietto - PRACTICE VIDEO - Slow/Med/Fast

  • This is a practice video of the famous keyboard piece Solfeggietto by CPE Bach. This toccata-like piece is great for developing finger control and even technique. It requires every finger to be as even as possible and a great balance between the hands. This piece is listed in the AMEB Pianoforte Grade 4 Syllabus.
I have recorded this study with three different speeds in order to help budding young pianists learn this piece:
    Slow: 0:00
    Medium: 2:24
    Fast (Performance Speed): 4:18
You may notice that the G5 on the piano is dull and not nearly as crisp as the other notes. Sometimes my piano gets rather temperamental, and decided to play up during this recording!

I learned this piece when I was 12. I'm 64 now and can still it prestissimo. Great warmup piece. C.P.E.B. was definitely ahead of his times. I like to play some of the passages as block chords. Sounds a bit like jazz chords that way. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much for recording this piece in three tempi! I was introduced to it by my piano teacher when I was 19. I would like to revisit it soon, at 63.

Thank you, it is very generous of you to provide a practice video of this very popular and fun piece. It’s wonderful for students to learn how to hold the hands ready and close to each other for ease of playing. Thank you!

A bit rigid. I played this when I was 11-12 years' of age at slow-medium pace. I still have the music sheets from 1981-82 (good old days-the time period, not the fact that I was forced to play the piano ….).

Hi Ben, this piece is about Grade 4 standard in Australia, according to the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board). I don't think the speed matters so much as long as it's well played...of course, faster is more impressive. :)
I imagine it may be considered a slightly higher grade in Britain.
