    That happened to the charger I bought for my Kindle. It showed no warning signs it just peacefully blew out DED. It didn't fall apart, didn't break in half (in fact it didn't break at all), didn't heat up and melt, it just went out; the one I'm using the head that went into the device looked like it was gonna fall off the hard plastic part was easily separatable and I had to put tape on it the bottom line: I'm impressed to see that the white one still works after all that.

    Thanks for sharing this so I do not have to test these things. More people should see this video well done there is a huge safety risk with these batteries all things are not taken into account properly. I had one cell bubble out on me today scary stuff. It is a good thing that I was aware of what is possible and I got it outside the moment I seen a bubble come out but often you are not lucky enough people have died from these batteries exploding others have been severely burned causing life time deformation.
    Be careful folks if you have a bad battery that has vented DO NOT attempt to repair it.

      lithium reacts with water like that : 2Li + 2H2O-> 2Li(oh) + H2 .Lithium in reaction with water produces hydrogen which reacts with atmospheric oxygen : 2H2 + O2 + ( high temperature that is the result of the previous reaction)-> 2H2O. That reaction is very abrupt and thats what causes the ,,explosion".

    Generally these cells should never be used without any protection circuitry and be protected against puncture
    the issue with these batteries is that, without the metal case, you have about the same energy density as with dynamite.
    that is why most devices holding these are so sturdy, at least if it is quality

I've had 5 e-cigs with me, with batteries plus two extra batteries (phone, phone laptop and camera aswell with battery) last time I flew. Then you need to find something like a glass bottle from a parfume or beer in the airport, and you can make like 3-6 glass grenades on the toilet.... creepy.

    Keep in mind that everything shown here is usually mitigated by protection circuitry and more. And even then, the reactions are not that fast etc.
    For example the tesla car that burned down while charging had more than enough time to tell the driver that there is a problem and tell them to leave the car.

    • @mandernachluca3774
      @mandernachluca3774 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not the problem, Tesla batteries have the problem of reigniting after three quaters of an hour with temperatures of over 1000 c° ( like demonstrated in the video). Now imagine a crash of two Tesla cars, you need routhly an hour to rescue the victims, clear the area and at least put the damaged car out of the way. There are no protection circuits for that. Ev, at least at the moment, are a huge fire hazard after a crash, that's one of the reasons why i wait to buy an EV until the batteries improved. I know that they experiment with ceramic batteries that are much safer, even without protection citcuit.

    • @incandescentwithrage
      @incandescentwithrage 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mandernachluca3774 Yes but ceramic batteries have a lot of energy density to make up for, compared to lithium ion.
      Ceramic has less energy than lithium ion, and plain old gas has far more than either.

      Yeah and hydrogen has a higher energy density than gasoline or diesel, still a lot less people bother investing in it. There are more factores than just energy density to consider.

    • @Basement-Science
      @Basement-Science 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, there is a risk that batteries can ignite long after a crash, however the risks of fire may actually be higher in a gasoline car. Those burn down every day, but most people don´t seem to care about that.
      I don´t know if there are reliable statistics yet, but the way I see it, Tesla cars are at least not much different in terms of fire hazard compared to other cars.
      Of course this is something to look at in each electric car. Many other manufacturers don´t use 18650 cells, but plastic encased cells ( usually incorrectly referred to as LiPo). Those are surely a much bigger risk as far as I can see.

      Firsttly, maybe the statistics regarding Autopilot safety are a bit on the positive side. Okay. But just look it up, Tesla model S, X and 3 are the safest cars (crash ratings) in the world. www.theverge.com/2018/9/20/17882634/tesla-model-3-nhtsa-five-star-safety-rating www.tesla.com/de_DE/blog/tesla-model-s-achieves-best-safety-rating-any-car-ever-tested drivemag.com/news/how-safe-are-tesla-cars-5-facts-and-myths-explained
      Oh and one more thing, just because a BMW M3 has higher fatality numbers than a normal sedan does not mean the car is less safe. It shows that different drivers choose different cars and if someone decides to read a magazine while driving on autopilot or does not react even if a warning comes up, he is just acting stupid.

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Safest car per crash rating? Nope. Try a smart car. Those little fuckers can hit a metal wall going 130mph and the cab still be totally intact like a shell. But no matter what car or what protection is there, unless you can defy physics law of attaction than your stomach would dropkick your tonsils and you would eat your buttcheek at the same time from the sudden change in motion. Would be like 500 g or whatever. But testla. No dice on safest car. Plus the turnaround and milage maintenance are non existant just because of how unsafe they are. They had a recall with their contactors one year and deales refused to work tochange them out like any other recall would. On top of that they deemed it against all warrantees if anybody other than the dealer change them. So those sorry fuckers who spent over 70k on those cars were calling elon asking for rides...

    The lithium is actually really instable and it burns really fast creating a lot of heat, shorting the strate of the lithium battery it creates a lot of courrent passing trought the lithium heating it and burning it, if u put pure lithium in wather it explodes like metal sodium

    I was a scuba diving instructor in California in the 1980s. We did training and excursions on a dive boat called the "MV Conception." In 2019 a fire believed to have originated in a group of lithium batteries from cameras, phones and dive lights that were charging overnight caught fire leading to the sinking of the vessel and the death of all 34 people sleeping below decks.

      Yeah but the difference is gas atleast dont self explode as battery do over time. So i rather take my chances with fuel than actual batteries. To make gas burn you have to try more. Like shooting gas tank so that it leaks gas, and put a match on fire and burn the gas line. Like thats basically how it works if you wanted to put a fuel tanked car on fire.

    Dear, that was really helpful for making us understand that lithium batteries are no less than hell bombs. And therefore, we cant prevent it though. Cuz most mobile phones have lithium ion batteries fitted. This danger is around us all the time. And finally I can understand why overcharging the phones results on explosion.🤔👍👍
