Circuit breakers must work a bit differently in Russia than in the US..

Oh hell yeah, reminds me so much of my childhood reminiscing the fun I used to have with Bunsen burners and electrolytic's. Until that discovery that 240 volts and later 415 volts would work sooooo much better. The memories are tinged with a sadness that there are no videos or pictures to upload. I am electrician, and am sorely tempted to 'do' some electrolytic's, better still I have some non polarised big assed oil filled caps in the workshop, meet propane burner. Yes I have been re inspired, thank you for the blast from the past. :)

I love these types of videos. Whether these "cats" knew the risks or not they had a question and wanted to see what would happen so they did the smartest thing anyone can do when confronted with the unknown, they tested it. They didn't just ask a question or belive what someone told or say it's too dangerous, they tested their idea. Could they have done it safer sure but that's an individuals perogative to decide which level of safety they would pursue and safety is not the scope of the video. If your a human being then you should know how to protect yourself and if you don't then ask those questions first and foremost. I hate how so many videos waste 10 mins talking about safety first and if someone gets hurt it's not the videos producers fault. No shit, no one is responsible for anyone's safety except their own. Except of course if the action of an individual will directly hurt someone else. But a video won't hurt someone it's what a someone decides to do with that video. Ok I'll end my rant but one more thing not only did they not waste our time talking about safety that everyone should know, they shared their dangerous experience. A lot of great scientist died or were injured in test they performed but their findings were shared with humanity and helped improve it. So thanks guys.

The smoke emitted from a blown capacitor is really realistic for such a small capacitor. A lot of the dielectric is being vaporized but it is pushed through a tiny hole melted into the casing by high pressure, causing the smoke to expand beautifully when it comes out.

I used to do the capacitor thing as a kid in my parent's basement. Connecting a 25 or so volt electrolytic capacitor to 120 VAC. Also removing circuit protection and shorting the output winding of small transformers. Lots of wacky fun!
