HO - O SCALE Locomotive Display Case - Unboxing the Display Gifts wall mount case

  • It seems there is always more trains than space in the display case. This one is actually a shot glass display case from Display Gifts. With 12 shelves it holds a bunch of locomotives though!
    We have 4 display cases, all made by Display Gifts. The two tall ones are actually shot glass display cases we bagged from eBay.
    Super well made, AND it seems it can also hold O scale trains as every other shelf is removable. Not sure if it's deep enough for all O scale trains, its only 2.75 inches deep on the shelf. With all the shelves in its 12 two-foot shelves so it holds a lot of locomotives!
    NOT we don't get paid to promote these!!
    From Amazon:
    Made from solid wood. Dimensions: 36.5" H X 25.5" W X 4"D Space between rows: 2.5" with all shelves in. 5.25" with one shelf removed. Interior Depth 2.75"
    Metal brackets on back for wall mounting. 2 Weight support anchors included.
    One single door gives it more advantage on better expoure, without the middle door frames blocking the objects.
    No assembly, comes in one piece.
    Felt interior background provides a lovely contrast display.

    By chance, 2 weeks ago, as I was shopping for a wall display case, I found this video. On your recommendation, I bought one of the shot glass cases. I love it. It holds every one of my 30 HO locomotives. Quality case. Sturdy build. Good price. Quick shipping. Highly recommended. Thanks.

    This is such a great idea! But now I am curious about the silver box next to the new one. Don't know if you have done a full shop tour showing off your different equipment and how you have everything setup, not just the trains, would be great. Y'all take care and be safe would hate to lose this channel. Love all your screwing around!

    A great video Ken,have you thought of tacking some track in the case for your brass rolling stock so if there is a bad shake they will ride out on the track without moving side to side
    after all you do not want them leaning up against the glass,there to good to lose and so well made..many thanks for the video.

      Paul A Fulcher hi. Yup. Looks better too. I assume in a shaker stuff will end up all over inside. This last one only knocked a few things on their side. But if it’s a good shake their will be stuff against the door making it tricky to open. Hopefully we will never know.

    I like cabinet makers hanger brackets better. Though requires a bit of wood working. We made a reverse wedge that allowed to hang the entire cabinet on the hanger rail. So you easily fasten the hanger rail, then the cabinet hangs on the rail. The hanger rail uses a 45 degree cut that slopes down back toward the wall. The cabinet has the matching rail which fits into the 45 degree cut. the cabinets weight holds it in the wedge. Then you can screw the cabinets into the rail. The border around the cabinet takes into account the extra 3/4 required for the rail.

    Very nice! You might want to consider reinforcing the attachment to the wall. Frequently the back panels on cabinets are simply tacked in with a few staples and the panel material is a non-structural fiberboard. A long cleat under the base of the cabinet frame would take the load more reliably when the next one hits, or the brackets that were provided but they would probably be move visible. If you're planning for a 7.0+ you might also add a similar cleat up under the top frame. All those (beautiful!) engines will be pretty heavy, no? Thanks for all the great content!

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi thanks! Fortunately on these the non removable shelves are also attached to the back. The first one used the shelf brackets it came with. I even hung it by the brackets. What I did was in fact just hang it as recommended. And really felt it was not strong so I added the grabbers into the studs. I’m thinking of adding the brackets to the new one. You really can’t see them. You hang them first and the case covers them. Only the bottom is exposed. They tell us a 7.0 will not happen. Or lest say here that’s a thousand year event. But 6.0 is common. Well a 30 year event.

    I also have to echo Mike Hubbard's comments about the backing being stapled to the frame. And the potential for failure.

    Anyway thanks again

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yup I’m thinking of adding the shelf brackets. But the case is monolithic. The non removable shelves are attached to the back. But some small risk of the screws pulling through the back. And washers would look nasty. The silver box is a burn out oven for casting brass. Heats to 2,000 degrees. I place the investment flasks in there. And burn out for about 6 hours. Melting and vaporizing the wax pattern. Then reduce the heat for a few hours. Then pour molten brass into the flask in a casting machine and spin. Then toss the whole thing in water. After boiling fir a few minutes you end up with brass parts. Or should I say did. Have not used it in about 25 years. Ralph G taught me how. Have you watched “scratch built and prototype brass locomotives with Ralph and Rosie. That’s how those were made. th-cam.com/video/mAKjLMn2nqE/w-d-xo.html

    At 0:36 what is the long UP locomotive? The lower one is a gas turbine I'm pretty sure but I've not an idea of the one above it. I wasn't able to find a video about it, maybe because I didn't look too hard. The same locomotives where in a full case, with one locomotive being a steam turbine; in another shot in either this video or another and I didn't know what some of those were either. If you have a video about the full case of those strange UP experimental locomotives that covers what all of them are, or multiple videos covering them; would you be so kind as to direct me to them?
