    Thank you for taking the time! I work at a small private school, the food the children choose (we do not have a lunch program) is whatever mom can get a Costco. Popular lunches are cup-o-noodles (we provide hot water) and an oversized apple that gets tossed. The school sells Costco muffins, chips soda etc. The kids fill up on that and end up sleeping most of the day.

    Most children who qualify for school lunch are on welfare, which means they have government health insurance, which means if the government wants to save money on future costs, they should spend more money upfront on healthy foods. I mean, can you imagine teenagers getting insulin shots, a normal prescription of insulin costs over $200 per month per patient? This is ridiculous.
    Please listen to this lady and giver her an award!

    Let's make the kids grow their own food. It's sustainable. They learn gardening. They gain a trade. Then they can cook it. That's another skill. Then they can eat it. That's an adventure!

    I remember when this was implemented into the school I was attending. It was 2011 and I was a Junior in highschool. Being an "Athelete" at the time, this food did not do me any justice. Geniunly terrible tasting food, I ended up bringing my own lunch from then on.

    • @realeques
      @realeques 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When you're burning more calories than you're taking in, any nutrition is decent nutrition. And yea actually this food is a BAD ALTERNATIVE for atheletes. Pizza, Pasta etc isn't good for you no matter how many natural ingredients you put in it. I opted out of this shitty lunch program and started bring my own Chicken breast, brown rice etc for lunch. The most I would ever grab is a salad and that was if I was still hungry.

    I may be against the way the government wants to enforce what we choose to eat as adults, but when it comes to kids, who don't have much of a choice, or lack the capacity to make the healthy choice, I agree with Ann Cooper 100%. Healthier food in schools equals healthier kids, and makes it more likely they'll make healthier choices later in like, and their kids will be healthier, not only at school, but at home too. Now we just need to get today's parents to care a little more.

    My school food got only slightly better during this year... The LAUSD lunches are terrible and pretty much consist of burgers every single day. Anything that isn't a burger tends to taste pretty bad anyways, or it's cold. Now I work for the office in my school and I have seen the kitchen in my school while making deliveries... It is a full blown professional kitchen, yet my school just reheats food... that's it...
    I wish this could change.. Best leave that to the new students. (I'm graduating)

    It's funny how people look at food. I'm from a Japanese background and live my entire middle school life in Brazil, by that the food the serve in high schools here in U.S. is stuff to be given for a kid to tell them that people don't really care about them, like a inside joke. However in U.S. I notice that the same food now is considered the basis of a "healthy" meal, the potato and white flour been the only source of fiber.

    @takadi I think its normally because you have a group of individuals who are put in charge of things they don't care about, and know little more about the subject other than a list of cliff notes they probably browse.
    I mean that's just a theory.

    I'm very worried about kids today. All they seem to want to eat is chicken fingers, pizza, sweet juices and sodas. I can't think of one kid I know that will drink water. It's a damned shame.

    Thank God for this woman. I wish my school district's lunch system was like this. Unfortunately, my choice of lunch everyday is the same: a slice of greasy pizza, a little processed PB&J "sandwich", or a "chicken" sandwich. Of course, all three taste like shit.

    Every kid should be involved in making real food, at least once; kids need to know what food is, how its made and where it comes from. To give people an opportunity to be involved in the creation of the food that is served gives them a feeling of personal investment and pride in food created by, and for "US". This is really common sense, but completely contradictory to students as consumers, which THEY ARE NOT- they're kids who need education.

    Feed your own kids. Problem solved.

    • @stevo9er
      @stevo9er 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +diagoumistis A large portion of American children face food insecurity. The risk that they won't have meals at home. So often times this is the only place they are able to get regular, consistent nutrition.

    • @diagoumistis
      @diagoumistis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      stevo9er and the solution is the taxpayer is on the hook? Why are these people not feeding their children? Shouldn't that be addressed? All that is being accomplished is training a generation to be dependent on the govt. What happens when that dries up? Its wont be a happy time. Look at Venezuela.

    • @ManicParroT
      @ManicParroT 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +diagoumistis Haha, this is the most fucked up logic.
      Firstly, a country can't be strong if it's children aren't strong. Poor people in America can't feed their kids properly because they're broke as fuck, or the entire deck is stacked in favour of unhealthy, bad foods.
      Someone wants to address that and you accuse them of creating dependency? Malnourished children will in fact grow up to be more dependent on government aid, not less, because they'll be less productive, they'll need more medication for their chronic diseases and they won't have as much income to spend on things like education and entrepreneurship.
      America's allowing the food industry to make people sick, and they're hiding behind free market fundamentalism to get away with it.

    • @diagoumistis
      @diagoumistis 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ManicParroT talk about fucked up. You're a fucking puppet and spouts all the same bullshit fed to him. Perhaps you need better nourishment, dumb fuck.
