This is invaluable info! Also worth mentioning, if you find that your paint is drying mega quickly before you can blend, especially in the summer heat (which was the nightmare I was having to endure recently lol), slow drying mediums are very useful rather than thinning with water! You only need about 10-20% of it to 80-90% of paint and it extends the dry times just enough that you can get a layer down and blend it.

    • @WoodysAR
      @WoodysAR 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I found a wonderful slow drying medium from Winsor & Newton, it comes out as a gooey gel instead of most which are very liquid. It really made my average Decoart Americana colors, feel like working true oils. It is so nice to get time back while painting, blending is the theraputic part for me!

@@WoodysAR which product was you using? This project was a hot mess for me because it dried to fast. Thanks

Boy, this is an immense help.
I've been doing pen, ink pencil & graphite art since I could pick up & gain basic control of a pencil & pen, but in four decades (or more 🙄) my only experience with paint was limited to water color, oil for linoleum print work & acrylic for walls (gotta pay those bills) in the conventional non artistic sense.
My mom has been trying to get me to paint since she took it up some two decades ago & in all honesty, I've just been scared to try it.
Not of making mistakes you cant erase, but the mess & aggravation of things that were not anticipated, or known.
This vid is way better than the one I had planned fo follow.👍
The other artist claimed he would show both ways to paint the bubbles (bristle brush & air brush), but he ended up showing it done mainly with the air brush & with none of the tips, or warnings you offer.
I did think I could get done in a night, but its ok. Finding this vid really soothes that part of me that worries about what we dont know.
Thank you very much & have a very happy holiday & new years. 🎁🦌⛄🍾🎉🥳

Wonderful video on how to make a broken/mottled background. This really helped me complete a background for a portrait painting I was working on in oil. The background turned out amazingly realistic showing the person outdoors amongst the greenery and sunlight. I plan to watch her other videos for tips even though I paint in oil. Lachri is a wonderful artist!

I painted a bird like that today. It’s the first acrylic painting I did (not including elementary school paintings). It’s nice to see that every acrylic painter has it’s own approach. I am very precise, so I was afraid to go into painting. I need to loosen up a bit. I like how your bird turned out.

Great demo! Question: Does the mop brush become sticky (for lack of another word) when you repeatedly go over the circles making it hard to remove to smooth the paint? If yes, what do you do because you want a dry brush, right? I tried this a while back and seemed to struggle with the brush picking up too much paint, if that makes sense. Thanks!

Does the blush brush get ruined? I mean it's a dry brush technique so presumably the acrylic dries on the brush as you use it? Or do you have several of these and wash the ones that are in danger of drying too fast before the paint sticks? I tend to smudge this kind of effect with my fingers, I've never found a brush as effective as my fingers for this kind of effect. It's incredibly messy though... :D

I would have to use a pencil or ink pen just so I could see where I might have missed by tracing it.
BUT... I normally just draw out my subject free hand.
There's a very simply way to do this...
Measure the width & the length of your subject from the reference photo... MULTIPLY each of those numbers TIMES how ever large you want it to be upon your canvas.
THEN... I use a method called "free association" to fill in my subject within my already measured perimeters... that works fairly accurate for me... sense my drawing skills have always been fairly acceptable.
I've never really studied the color wheel and just HOW to mix & apply shades, tones, hues, etc.
Lisa, by seriously listening to your good sound advice, I'm actually NOW learning HOW to apply PAINT to my drawings... ha... at my old age... ha ha!! 🤣😁😂
