      The Dell(2014) has been a great model so far. Still fast and responsive and runs moderately cool. High fivers for the 3847 club!. When installing GPU, be careful though with the back black fastener for holding in the cards, pc components etc. It has broken on me, though not a big deal it will hold with an appropriate screw in the back brackets.

    Thank you so much for this video! I got the exact PSU you have but I bought the GeForce GTX 1650 4GB PSU and I followed your video exactly to set everything up.
    One thing I wanted to note, when I tried turning on my pc it wouldn't turn on. I then connected the 4+4-pin EPS12V cable to the motherboard and my PC switched on. I just wanted to comment that here in case anyone is having problems when fitting the new PSU in and their PC not turning on, you actually have to connect the PSU to the motherboard otherwise it won't turn on!
    Anyway, thanks for the video!

    Just thought I'd add a bit of FYI. I wasn't going for a gamer machine but your channel led me to find what I needed. I just needed 3 monitors at the same time. Not fast, just 3. I did find one of the series you put in yours with 3 HDMI but that and a PS were above my budget at the time. I found a Geforce GT 710 that suited the purpose. No additional power needed. It seems to be one of the manufacturers that work in the Inspiron 3847. In my reading there are several that don't. Just thought I'd thank you for putting me on the right course to get what I needed! Thanks. ps. I will upgrade to the other at a later time. LOL

      @@dash2355 The 3847 motherboard uses a LGA 1150 socket which can take an i7-4790k or i5-4690k. I don't think there would be much bottlenecking if they had either of those. Although this platform is aged at this point and this is maxed specs for it.

    Yo i have the same pc but my question can I upgrade my gt 625 to a GTX 1050 ti without upgrading My PSU?

  • @Henry5623
    @Henry5623 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A couple quick points worth mentioning here...
    1. Those IDE connections on the PSU are molex connections for powering IDE drives, floppy drives, some scsi drives required them too if I'm not mistaken. They are also used on SD card conversions for older IDE based systems from the 90's and very early 2000's.
    2. It's an easy mistake to make but you forgot to plug in the 4 pin processor power cable on the motherboard. It's 100% required to give the CPU enough power to operate. Again a simple mistake but thankfully one that's easy to fix.
    3. The stock motherboards in these have the 1150 CPU socket so you can upgrade them to a 4790K series CPU and it will work. Dell doesn't list the 4790K as being compatible with the board, only the non-K 4790. But the K series chip WILL work and only draws 4 more watts worth of power so it won't overload the CPU socket. Granted you won't be able to overclock K series CPU's on the stock motherboards in these things but you'll still get a core clock speed increase over the non-K series chips.
    These systems are roughly based off of 9020 series Optiplex towers only with a stripped down more basic motherboard in them to reduce cost whereas the 9020 series is aimed more at the educational and enterprise market but carry a higher price tag due to them having more features. My aunt actually owns one of these 3847's which I just replaced the PSU on it after the barring on the fan inside the PSU started to fail. Was a pretty easy fix and she's happy again. So to anyone who happens to read this buy these older Dell's if you can. They are ridiculously easy to work on, pretty upgradable, and generally have a sold build quality. Plus because there are huge numbers of these things out there the Dell fans/support community is huge as well.

    I have a Inspiron 3847 that I upgraded into a budget gaming PC build. My 3847 was a thrift store purchase for about $20.
    Came with an OEM key for Windows 8 Pro, so I was able to update the PC to Windows 10 Pro for free. Today, I updated it to Windows 11 Pro, thanks to Rufus for eliminating the TPM and CPU checks in the installer ISO. Win11 Pro is activated and works very well on my PC so far. Now here's hoping the next Windows Update won't break it.
    I wound up not upgrading my PSU since it's 300 watts and met the GPU's requirements. Also replacing the hard drive with SSDs would help improve my power headroom.
    Upgrades:
    CPU: from a Core i3 to a Core i7-4770K
    RAM: from 4 GB to a matched pair of 8 GB for 16 GB in DDR3
    GPU: from Intel chipset graphics to a GTX1650 OC
    Fixed Disk: from a 500 GB 7200 RPM hard disk to a 1TB WD Blue SATA SSD. Also added a 500 GB SSD for caches and file storage.
    Wireless: upgraded from the wireless N card to an Intel 7260 Wireless AC with Bluetooth 4.0
    Optical Drives: added a second Panasonic SW830 since I do deal with optical media.

      hi. to be honest this is one of the most long term desktop I have ever used. it fact in one my first business over a thousand invested standard configuration from dell back in 2019. i used it until 2021 until later I sold it and decided to go with custom building one. during my time with it many upgrades were done and videos are found on the channel. if you are leaning towards gaming with it for sure get at least a rtx 2060 graphics card in it so you play under the RTX architeture. if is also suitable for business such as adobe and microsoft etc. upgrade the memory to the max of 16gb for sure regardless. and last thing I did was remove the mechanical drive and then added the western digital SATA ssd in replacement using a 3.5 to 2.5 bracket and get it here amzn.to/3qPlVfA. the video description will have all the products i recommend for the desktop. from the i7 processor to the corsair memory to the ssd from wd. you may even try replacing the cpy cooler too with a model like the vortex.

      @@marcoxtv6854 hi. Good question. Well on something like this you have 2 options. First you can get super technical and clone your original drive to your ssd drive using sophisticated software and alot of back and forth. Don't recommend that option if you not into complicated tech steps. My most organized recommendation is to do a new windows installation and during the wizard choose the ssd drive. Once windows is loaded then firmat your existing drive. Your next step is to now open the disk management inside control panel under administrative tools. Change letters on your old drive to d for data or g for games. Whatever you want. Now that those things are done begin to install games on your d/g drive. Then begin to install your apps in the new ssd c drive. Done.

For your information: you may use any video card that supports PCIe and that the total length is about 9 inches. Based on the manufactures details on the rx580 yes and no depending on the design. for example some rx580 design models are over 10 inches. However I found one that is within 9.53 inches which is in fact .53 inches more than the 1050 ti. however there seems to be about 1-2 more inches left so I believe that it will fit. Here is the one I found that is the smallest yet a great design amzn.to/2U4AEUu before buying it I recommend you open your case and meassure it from wall to back to make sure the 9.53 inches in length will fit I believe it will.

      That is pretty good ram but the only downside is that it is ddr3, maybe if you get a ddr4 supported motherboard like I would recommend a x99 motherboard, I have one myself and it also works great on my hackintosh, the WiFi works same with the audio, the Bluetooth does not work no matter what motherboard you have, you need to get like a macOS supported dongle for Bluetooth, and you will need a and gpu, I would recommend if you have a budget the rx 580 8 gb not the 4 gb one. But anyway thanks for replying and have a nice day!

      Hi. good question. Modern Warfare require a lot of memory and video power. I recommend to upgrade the memory from 8gb to the max of 16gb at least using this bundle sense is designed for gaming amzn.to/2TCtF5B and lastly I think the video card 1050 ti on the minimum here amzn.to/2WAHW16. You may be close to the $300 but is well worth it. I would expect the game to work great on optimal graphics settings with at least these 2 upgrades. keep the i5 you have as is. keep your power supply as is if is a 300-400w. You may need to however get the power supply too but test it out after you have upgraded memory and graphics card.

      Good question. in fact no the 11 inch graphic cards are too long for this case. I tested the 9.3 inches and they fit ok and there is estimated to be another 5 inches of space available. I do have a method if needed to make longer cards fit and that is to remove the hard drives bay area off the case, doing this will allow more space for the card to fit long way. Then my only recommendation if you go this route for the hard drive would be to use one of the cdrom bay spots for mounting the hard drive using some sort of bracket that is compatible with hardrives/cdroms. please like the video and subscribe for future content on this model.

    Your video is good, butttttt... I myself installed an RTX 2080Ti card into this exact Dell Inspiron 3847 (I bought it in Dec 2014, Seattle USA), by removing the hard disk metal frames by force :D, and now I have > 13.5-inch space and it is more than enough for my RTX 2080Ti. I have to admit that removing the HDD's metal frames did take me a lot of efforts - the frames are not fixed to the outside case with any removable screws, they are fixed by rivets... so I used mid-sized pliers to force the rivet out of the case LMAO... i got hurt on one of my fingers, but it is a little one...
    (PS: I have i7-4790 + 16GB 1600MHz RAM DDR3 + 1TB 7200rpm HDD + RTX 2080Ti, no DVD, no other fancy parts... I need to say that with this, you can't maintain 300 FPS in Overwatch at "everything-lowest +100% rendering" settings. I can have 200-240 FPS fluctuating in real competitive matches. I believe this is due to the low frequency of my RAM. In order to maintain at 300 FPS, probably you will need 16GB RAM >3000MHz. My CPU is kind of enough. Kind of... I would still recommend using i7-8700k instead of something like i7-4790 or i7-7700k for maintaining your real FPS at around 300 FPS, because multicore performance is really important for maintaining at ultrahigh FPS.)
    Another important info I need to provide is that I upgraded the old PSU to a 630 Watt one (not 600W or 650W), and it is working very well. Don't trust those review videos on TH-cam which said that the RTX 2080Ti card must have a 750W PSU and shit... Now I tell you "No! 630W is good enough for me. So I think you can buy a 650W PSU for any single video card on the market now."
    Also, I always run my games at 300 FPS but at low graphics settings without any problem. I do this because I play competitive matches rather than quick plays, and I care about my SR rather than graphics effects. So if you want good image quality, your GTX or RTX will definitely have a higher power rate than mine, which will cause higher loading on your PSU. Then, will 650W PSU be enough??? Hard to tell, but I think if you don't run your RTX 2080Ti at >70% load, a 650W PSU will be good enough. The reason why the review videos on TH-cam said a 750W PSU is necessary for RTX 2080Ti is when the RTX 2080Ti is almost fully loaded when its power is much higher than its TDP (there are some tests saying that its power can reach as high as 400W at full load.) In my experience, I use "100% rendering + everything-lowest image quality + 300 FPS" setting in Overwatch, the RTX 2080Ti only has an 8%-12% load. At this low video card load, you don't need to worry about that a 650W PSU can't fulfill it...

    • @HernandezEliteGaming
      @HernandezEliteGaming  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      great thoughts Jia. the initial idea with my upgrade was SIMPLE. Of course I could of done more. I could taking it further. I just wanted to add a video card and a power supply plus later add some cooling led fans and call it a day. If I want to customize it extremely then I would buy a custom case and move all the hardware from this desktop over and then take the case further.

    Hello. I have this same PC, i5 processor with the same power supply, 16gb ram, and an Evo 500 ssd. My old video card went out (it's a GTX 650) so I'm unsure what my options are for this particular build. I'm on a budget and would like to keep my 2 monitor display. Does this card support 2 displays? (I didn't see the 2nd slot correct me if I'm wrong though) If not is there a list of compatible cards that will support 2 for this build? (My 2nd monitor isn't hd capable like my primary is so it's going to run at a lower resolution) however the GeForce control panel helps with keeping it looking similar to the primary

    Me putting a 3060ti in and a 750w power supply. There might be a little bit of a bottleneck somewhere in my system and I’m leaning towards the gpu

    • @HernandezEliteGaming
      @HernandezEliteGaming  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi. maybe is the gpu. or the limit in power. for example as long as you have plenty of power. the actual voltage does not matter. for example if your system requires 400w and you have a 750w it will not have a problem. you have what is required. however the other way around is different. if the gpu requires power and the system has less it will have a problem. another thing i find too is the other components installed may be causing a power short.

      Hi. Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts. Yes and no on your comment. Initially when I ordered the video card I also ordered the power supply. I'm use to needing to needing to connect a power cable to video cards. It's just the rule of thumb. I later realized that yes i may get away without a power supply. After researching the power requirements on the overall components i calculated that everything was almost using the original 300 watts. Considering i was also interested in adding a cooler unit and led lights also new dvd drives plus 2 hard drives which is not covered in this video is why i thought it was smart to in fact replace it.

    Hey there, I have a basic Dell Inspiron 3847, my power supply died. So I was watching videos about fixing them myself. When I came across this. My question is with everything being basic Dell manufacturer. Can this set up work? Just the power supply and the graphics card 1050. Plus what size and style did you use? Also mine is i5 processor.

    • @AlainHernandez
      @AlainHernandez 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi. if you have at least 8gb or memory. and you said you have the i5 processor. yes that's it with just a power supply and video card as shown in the video so click on the links you find in the description to go buy the product you need. one thing to keep in mind though is that its always better to go faster for some games not all and if you have just a few bucks to spend then I recommend you upgrade the i5 cpu to the i7 cpu. then upgrade your memory to the max which is 8gbx2=16gb. Intel i7-4790 Processor amzn.to/38Fn3rc and then Corsair Vengeance 16GB Desktop Memory amzn.to/2TCtF5B

    • @HernandezEliteGaming
      @HernandezEliteGaming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      as your lowest entry point you just need a nvidia gtx 1050 ti graphics card. I listed two on the video description one being the evga one I used and the other a gigabyte model. using an i5 processor and at least 8gb of memory you will be able to play some games not all and others at low settings and others on high so is going to depend. however you can invest a bit more and purchase the corsair memory I listed to maximize it to 16gb and then the i7 processor I listed to get the latest cores. in addition you add the rtx 2060 evga card you are golden. This will cost you a few hundred dollars but is better than spending close to a thousand or two for the same specs on a newer case. this is considered when wanting to preserve the hardware you already have.
