Back in the day I purchased the Dell 660 new and retired it a year ago when I built myself a new gaming system. Not wanting to junk the 660, I upgraded it. The 660 uses a standard ATX power supply, so I installed a old 500 watt unit, a 3770 I7 cpu, 16 GB of ram, GTX 1650 and a 512 GB SSD. It runs like a champ and makes me wonder why I bothered to build the new system. Now with the standard power supply I plan on upgrading the video card with a used 8 GB unit.
I've been upgrading my Dell 660 too and I keep seeing people say it cant handle an i7 cpu, did you do anything to make it compatible or did it work as is?
Thanks for the videos man. Just upgraded my cousin's 660 to a powerspec 650 psu, an asrock rx570, 16 GB gskillz ddr3 and a fresh install of windows 10. Was nice to know exactly what I was getting into before I pulled it apart.

will it handle if i upgraded to 3770 processor with 1050ti 4+8 gb ram.. but i will remove tye optical drive and second hdd and only keep a 5.4krpm hdd..
Any process to add a second SSD to a rig with an existing HDD with Windows 10, and then transfer the OS to the new SSD? And is there any issue with using a 1 TB SSD?
theterminaldave I was able to add a SSD to the tower and clone the HDD that had Win 10 and have had no issues. The system starts up so quick now and programs are so snappy. A SSD upgrade is definitely worth it.
yea but I find it lacking in performance for newer games. I would go for the 1050 ti since both work with a 300w psu. But I guess it depends on the type of games it can play. Also if you can turn down the settings and be comfortable the 750ti is ok.
The memory on my comp had 2 4gb sticks, and I put a 2tb hard drive in. I got it working great from there. After I put the GeForce GTX 1050 ti low profile card in and it just beeps at me. How do I fix this? It's the Inspiron 660 just like the video
I found out it was the bios needed updated. I couldn't originally download the bios because the me program wasn't there from me switching to windows 10. After the bios updated it worked perfectly.
I pretty much want to do similar upgrades to my 660. Because I think the processor is still good (i5 3.0ghz) I want a 1050ti, a 240gb ssd to install windows and a few games on and upgrade the ram from 8 to 16gb. I had a few questions though. Can the standard cable that comes with the 660 have two hard drives hooked up to it (an ssd and a regular 1tb hard drive). Also, I know the 1050 ti is speced to run on a 300w psu. but will the other upgrades (ram and ssd) be too much power draw?
Zombie Rofl the problem isn’t the slot, it’s the power supply. Really any card more powerful or less efficient than a 1050ti would need a separate power cable running to it for power, and the power supply doesn’t have that cable. Upgrading the power supply to a more normal one 500w one and that motherboard will be able to handle just about any card.
