The computer works fine without replacing the original power supply. We tested this for about 7 days and had no issues. For a longer period we have no information. The original power supply of the computer is 180W. During the PerformanceTest with RX 6400, the maximum consumption of computer is 116W. Power consumption without load is about 26W.

I tried this on an 7060 and Sapphire RX 6400 and man it worked really great, although the only downside that I don't really mind was the noise that the fan was making when gaming. All in all it was a budget PC that works really great.
What processor u have ?
To get the games running properly on a newly installed GPU, it would be recommended to max out the RAM with all four slots to their peak GB intake. Even so, an NMVe SSD would also be recommended, because ordinary hard drives are no match for booting up today.

I want this to replace a 1030 in a sff optiplex 7040. When windows 10 loses support I'll switch my machine to linux where it will be an absolute beast lol.

no it works fine , just 8 to 10% less than pcie 4.0 slot , just dont use ultra settings , does 60fps in 1080 high settings
is the temperature of the gpu okay? seems like the fans don't have much space.
I want to do similar but use a PCI riser cable to power eGPU like a 3070 with external GPU to make full use of a 8th gen Intel'ed Dell SFF.
So did you succeed with your riser cable-idea? Which one are you using?
@@flydjigit I used Glotrends brand on Amazon in a HP prodesk i5-8500 SFF with EVGA 1070ftw. And it did boot up and see the card and runs it as my primary display. But whenever I try to run a game whenever it tries to go into 3D mode it immediately fails safes with full fan speed. The computer itself is frozen I can remote desktop in and see my mouse moving but I have to restart because I have no display output.
The problem made lie in the power supply I'm using for the 8- pin connectors
@@flydjigit okay it was a power supply issue. My PSU or cabling isn't quite up to snuff for 24/7 furMark but I think it will game okay maybe I will down clock the 1070 a bit. My previous PSU was super weak this should do just a cheap eBay thing.

What temperature it achieves? Mine is reaching 100°C under heavy load
100°C is a high temperature. Change the thermal paste, clean the computer and check the fans.

This tower have a terrible air flow and I think that's the reason, but if you could use it, so should I.
Mine is the XFX model instead of the Powercolor, which apparently is worse. What's the max temperature yours achieves?

Did you changed the PSU? The 7040 comes with a 180w PSU, how come can you run the rx6400 on it if it requires like 55w?

My rx6400 runs on pcie x4, did you manage to run it on pciex16?
On GPU-Z it shows pci express x4 3.0. 😢
It will run in 3.0 x4 only.

Yeah it would need a new power supply probably 450 watts would be fine aslong as it all fits
Do you recommend this pc for gaming even without upgrading it cause I know 32gb ram is a lot but ram isn’t the only thing that helps with performance
You only need 16gb of ram for gaming. Might even get away with a gb for lower spec games.

I had instaled one RX 6400 in my dell vostro 3470, perphaps when i playing games the temperature is too high ( 90 C° or 194 F°). Do you have this same problem if the computer of video ? Do you any suggestion to help me ? Thank you for your time.
It's happen due small cabinet, reduce the resolution in games, like 720p or 900p ans it will be better.

How many watts does this graphic card use around 30 watts? Is it possible that this Dell 7040 sff can you use a graphics card that uses up to 75 watts or is that too much?
I'm pretty sure the wattage of the power supply is 180 watts so I would risk it without research
I have this PC with a 6400. It works great and the 6400 is the most powerful card that fits.

Radeon RX 550 is an older video card with slightly higher consumption, but low profile version maybe it will work without replacing the power supply. (has the risk)

I just built one of these with an XFX 6400. It seems to run fine. I even had vsync off accidentally at first turning the card into a burning hot nightmare as it tried to make like 800fps, and no power issues.

@@jackblack7654 if you plan on playing gta 5 I suggest buying a ps4 or xbox one, this optiplex doesn't have much processing power.
@@jackblack7654 GTA5 works fine. At a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and high detail work at 60 FSP and above.

I'm an old CAD-guy, who uses ActCAD, and that software's pretty-light on PC-resources. 2D-CAD Planwork is like that :-) I'm looking to buy this little PC for my CAD-work. There so cheap (12/23) having such a good little PC is a Godsend!! No weird lighted fans needed for Planwork! hahahaaa. Just this level of performance. Man, I'm so amazed. thanks again!!
It only allows ddr3 RAM. I just bought 16gb of it. It maxes out at either 32gb or 16gb but again Im not sure if it maxes out at 16 or 32gb.

I bought the rx6400 xfx low profile for my pc 7040 (i7-6700) and it doesn't give me video. It detects the graphics card but I have no video signal
When installing the amd adrenaline drivers, it detects the graphics card and installs the driver but it still doesn't give me video and when I open the amd tool it throws me a compatibility error. I have tried about 40 times with different versions of the driver but I have not been able to find a solution :c
i read ur question try to set up in bios coz its probably maked only integrated graphic to be shown.
@@lirriahorde6616 I also tried... I put the ATI Radeon option in BIOS video and it still doesn't give me video, I tried my graphics on another pc and it worked fine, I still don't know what the problem is :C
What do you mean by "no video signal"? How is it possible to have no signal and at the same time install drivers?
(Please note that when you install a new video card, the monitor cable must be connected to it, that is, make sure you plug the monitor cable into the RX 6400 and reboot after this.)
@@COM6LTD I have done what you mentioned before. In fact, the gpu recognizes it for me in the BIOS and if I open GPU-Z on the pc it also recognizes it, when I install drivers it automatically recognizes it, but all this when it is connected directly to the motherboard, when I connect it directly to the gpu it does not It doesn't give me video in any way (it turns on, it starts windows because I hear it, but it doesn't give a video signal)

I actually bought one of these to replace an old ThinkPad laptop and been really happy with it. Temps are low 16gb ram came with it. I put an ssd in it. I use it for watching streams and movies mostly. Running Linux on it. Might install windows on it and try to get some emulators for retro gaming. Love all usb ports and 3 monitors. I have it hooked up to 3 tvs for when my friends are streaming. Very happy with purchase. 100$ plus a hard drive and display port to hdmi adapter.
I got one from my friend for $50. 64gb of ram. 1tb nvme drive. 12tb 3.5 HDD. I have mine plugged up to 4 monitors and not a hitch. You can use the usb 3.0 port for monitors after 3, in case you didn’t know. I’m going to try for a 5th monitor and see how it holds up lol

Thanks for this video, I just picked one of these up for thirty bucks (!) at my local State Surplus Property Warehouse complete with 512gb nvme, 16gb of ram & a half-decent 2gb GPU already installed. Still going to max out the RAM & replace the GPU but that's still a screamer of a machine for near as two hundred bucks.

@@marishowspeed 50/50. The 7040 SFF worked great but the PSU was pretty weak & having to stick with half-height GPUs was restrictive. Ended up picking up a Precision T7910 a few months ago at the same place for even cheaper & transferred most of the components except the CPU into it. If you can find one of the MT versions of these Optiplexes they make great 1080p gaming machines with very little investment (64gb of ram & a GTX1660 Super from FB marketplace had me sorted for under two hundred bucks total).
Mines arriving today. Barebones for $45 delivered. Prices are up a bit because of popularity and it's summer time I'm guessing. I'm adding a spare 6500K I have, along with the low cost Corsair 16GB kit, and either a Samsung 500 GB or 1 TB stick. Couldn't justify an Atari VCS that was going to need the same upgrades for what I wanted to do with it. Going to be using it as a living room emulation PC.

Yea it has to be a single slot card so 6400 is the most powerful GPU currently that fits. DO NOT listen to this guy /\ the a2000 is a 2 slot gpu.

Are you booting the OS from the NVMe SSD? I can see it in the Disk Manager after installation but it doesn’t come up in Bios. I found some drivers but having issues still.

Great video just what I was looking for, I just bought the same system on ebay waiting for it to come it's a bare bones system with 8 gigs ram, I'm thinking of getting 16-gigs DDR4 2x8 3200 MHz, do you know if your PC supports this type of RAM at that speed, and if so is there bio settings that need to be set up to run at this speed.
PS I also bought I want terabyte M2 drive Western Digital, Dell AMD Radeon R5 340X 2GB GDDR5 Low Profile graphics card, going to install Windows 11 hope it all works 🙂
