  • We've wandered around little sections of the Kampong Glam area but never delved any deeper. We found ourselves here as we had some errands to run so we took time to explore the Heritage Trail around the area and learn a little more about its history and what is here now.
We were surprised to find a whole treasure of arts areas, Turkish food, trendy cafe's and bars and coach fulls of tourists around. What was so special that they were coming here by the bus load?
Come with us on this quick taste of Kampong Glam, don't worry, we'll be back to explore more now we know what's there!
Be sure to hit subscribe too so you don't miss out on our new video every week, and a couple of extra ones each month too!

I live just 5 minutes walking distance away, actually lots of nightlife there, I used to spend time in few of the pub there. And I happen to found one of the cheaper pub in Singapore there.

Love, love that area! One of my favourites and on the agenda most trips, just for a wander around. The Malay Heritage Centre is well worth a visit when it re-opens. And Haji Lane might be a bit touristy but I love all the quirky little shops. Some of the best murtabak around to be had at Zam Zam on North Bridge Rd 😉

That was really cool, love the glimpses too of the interesting buildings beyond that area, the buildings that look two dimensional, and the Art Deco building with the gargoyles. We loved the Kampong Glam area too, I have several pieces of material I bought in Arab St. I think we went to a frozen yoghurt place that you could choose your own toppings.

Frozen yogurt is one of my favs! The material shops are fascinating, so many designs and colours.

Glad that u guys introduce areas other than Haji Lane and not just repeat what other TH-camrs like to visit. The highlight of KG is really sultan mosque, palace and Muslim n arab culture.

FYI, Kampung Glam is basically the face of Singapore’s Malay/Muslim community, where tourists come to enjoy the atmosphere and culture, albeit with a little trappings. But if they want an authentic Malay/Muslim experience, they should go to Geylang Serai. That is where the heart of the Malay/Muslim community is. You’ll see the real Singaporean MalayMuslim community going to the market to shop for daily necessities and hawker centre to chit chat with old Kampung friends/neighbours and eat delicious foods! Same goes with Chinatown, if you’re facing the direction of Harbourfront, and goes to the left of the MRT Station, you end up at the tourist trap of Souvenir Streets but if you go to the right and ride the long escalator up, you’ll end up the real, real Chinatown, where you see old Chinese men and women dancing around, people hanging around at the hawker centre, people watching, and those who goes there for cheap food as well as cheap toiletries

Thanks for sharing the local knowledge. Even though these little areas are smaller they have so much packed in.

    Hi WonderLust,
To us Kampong Glam is by Islamic culture, nice architecture buildings nice place to visit but the food there is a bit expensive.
If you are going for Malay foods Geylang Serai is the best place to try out the Malay foods.

Ah thanks, we didn't eat along here this time but we have done before and really enjoyed the food.I'd say the price, for us, if more for a treat sometimes.

its quaint to walk around but some of the F&B outlets in the area can be quite expensive. Cheaper F&B options include Textile Centre, beach road hawker Centre, lane Crawford within walking distance

Super tourist trap. Pretentious hippy cafe and arabic restaurants, just a place for some IG photos, many locals don’t go there, evening is a beer drinking place. Clinical w nothing got to do w Malay-Muslim culture

Interesting! I can see why you might say that about some of it, but there are also some really lovely local spots too. A nice blend I’d say. But you’re right that it’s definitely aiming for tourists.
