When I was presented both an Air Medal w/ V and a Navy Comm w/V just after Desert Storm, the ceremony was performed by our squadron CO, but not in front of the 250+ person Viking squadron, but within the tiny AW Division office aboard the carrier with 15 other Aircrewmen. Always wondered about that.
Embracing culture, especially a corporate culture, is always something with which I've struggled. Formal recognition makes me cringe so much it feels like punishment - which in turn means I don't tend to do it as a manager. "Aim high, but without enthusiasm" is my motto. 😂
