Nice job! You made me realize I'd rather pay a mechanic to do this because it would take me ALL day and I would have to mark EVERYTHING to know where it went when it's time to put everything back in place.
I've always found that my cell phone camera is a great way to document the location of wiring, parts etc. The main thing to overcome is fear. If you can't put the fear of ignorance aside the project will be doomed.
spot on mate about it sounding like the battery is failing.. exactly what I thought I called in the warranty on my battery. they said it's fine, I almost wanted to argue with them .. It is my starter
Thank you for this! My Mom’s CRV just took a dump in the mall parking lot. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get it to start one last time so I don’t have to change it at the mall lol. This video will be very helpful when I start working on it
Btw, I couldn’t get it to start again, so I had to change it in the mall parking lot. This video was very helpful though and I was able to get the job done! Thank you!
@@lydiamundo1889 Yes it worked for hers. I can’t guarantee it will be the same for you, but I’d say it’s possible. It’s kind of a hassle to get to though
@@lydiamundo1889 If you can’t afford a new one, maybe try getting one from a salvage yard. You do run the risk of getting one that doesn’t work, which could in turn make you think something else is the problem when it doesn’t fix it. They are cheaper though. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Exactly where I am at. Battery was 5 years old got new one. No difference. Had wife start it but same no go but all the noise was in starter and sounded like gears. Thanks for the Video.
One thing that gave me a lot of room was to remove a T shaped section of the radiator support. It was easy (after removing the under-bumper shield) and made pulling the manifold simple.
To avoid the antifreeze issue and to make it easier to get the manifold out, I drained the radiator, and disconnected the upper radiator hose from the block. also removed the battery and the air filter housing. Manifold came out easily. Also, replaced the bypass hose while it was apart.
Firstly, I removed the battery and air box because, I'm testing the automatic transmission shifting solenoids and might change them. My dilemma is the nuts holding the intake a very rusted. It started to "round off", even soaked in penetrating oil. Is it risky to chisel them out ? Is there another way to access the starter ?
another thing, you don't need to completely remove the intake, just slide it to the drive side of the car once you remove all the hoses and throttle body. save yourself some time. also helps to remove the battery giving yourself more room to get to the plugs and hoses
Don't start disassembling the manifold, throttle body and other stuff from the top, just install the starter from underneath. It's much easier, much quicker and much less risky.
My 2004 CR-V has the throttle cable assembly attached to the throtle body which is unlike any I've seen in the videos. Anyone know of a video showing my model with these cables in the way?
As for most car repairs even the easiest of them like on a Honda or Toyota, theres gonna be speed bumps. Biggest speed bump on here is getting the intake manifold out of there and outta the way lol. With that being said I bet this process is 2x easier than trying to replace your knock sensor. With that being said if you replace your starter with this video you might as well replace the knock sensor as well while your there, SO REPLACE YOUR KNOCK SENSOR WHILE YOUR THERE. Doing it from underneath is a bitch if you dont have mad skill with Intricate parts
Great video! I'll be turning wrenches this weekend. Did you end up replacing any gaskets on the throttle body or intake manifold? I want to make sure I have all the required parts before starting the tear down. Also, are there any other parts in the vicinity of the starter (belt tensioner/sensors...) that you'd recommend changing while I'm at it? Thank You!
I remember when my starter was going bad, I just managed to get my CRV home from a shopping centre. The next day at home it wouldn't start at all, just clicks.
I was planning on doing it myself, I really have not attempted to do mechanical work for 30 years ,and then the cars where 20 years old. the starter was two bolts and the hard part was climbing under the car to get it.. now wooow half the engine needs to be removed ffs
I have a question my mom has the same fever 2002 while she was driving and out of no where it started sputter. I told her to park it at home and not to drive it. And I checked the code it has p0300 p0301 p03004 misfire ode. And now it doesn’t want to start. Sound like dead battery but the battery is new. You think it’s a starter? And will that cause the misfire code?
The first thing you need to do is this. If you have a voltmeter, check the battery voltage. tell me what the voltage of the battery is. If it is under 12.4 and u didnt crank it alot trying to start it up I would immediately suspect the alternator has gone out. The alternator can cause misfires if it goes bad. Bad alternators can also cause batteries to go bad. Did the red battery light come on?
Ricky Adames no the battery light didn’t come on. She told me while it was sputtering the check engine light came on. I took the battery back the same place where we bought it from ( orilyes ). And they said the battery is good. Yea I was thinking it’s either the alternator or starter
@@allgasnobrakes1665 You dont have a voltmeter? If u dont u can remove the battery and take it to o reillys and have then have them test it and charge it.. If it's completely dead and ur battery cables and everything were connected good and the car starts and runs great for several minutes before being bad again it is ur alternator. And the alternator looks like it is a pain in the ass to replace. But maybe notit's not. Maybe it can be replaced through the wheel well. I'm not sure though
@@allgasnobrakes1665 Also. The starter wont cause misfires. Think clogged fuel injectors or fuel pump or bad gas or alternator. Does the crv have a battery light? If it doesn't then that might explain the check engine. I really hope it's not the alternator. That thing is buried deep
Ricky Adames I did took the battery to O’Reillys and they tested everything still good. When I tried to start it sound like it has a dead battery. But all the interior lights radio everything is on
Easier way on a 03 is from the bottom with the correct tools no need to do all that removed plastic cover under it and get your special tools 😉 this video to much to be honest
I took mine off from below. it wasn't that hard 😎😎. 63 yr. old certified tech 😄😄

Dude, this job kicked my ass.
Thank you for your guidance, you really saved me
What an absolute nightmare.
Thank you for making this tutorial
Need to replace starter while it still runs and your video confirms it is a big pita. Thanks
Great Video. What a job. This is why I love the cars from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. good Day. Thanks for a great video.

Excellent video. Showed me allot to tackle my problem Thank you!

Thanks, I was trying to get the manifold out without removing the coolant hoses. I'll go get a pan!
you are welcome!
What's up with not disconnecting and removing battery for safety and gives plenty of room to take out other parts
Thank you. Very helpful. Answers questions that other videos don’t. Well done. Tomorrow’s the big day. Did you replace your manifold gaskets?
No, I didnt. sorry :(
My starter just went out, would it be better to lift the truck and go under to replace the starter??

I so wish I had read this comment before taking off those hoses. My car ended up a mess with coolant everywhere and I lost about 2 bottles worth.

Maybe a good time to change the pvc valve. Easy access with manifold off.
I replaced my intake hose bc it was damaged, might not be a bad idea. Cheap and easy as well

Why disconnect the throttle body? It doesn't look to be in the way.
