Great job with passing the exam! I have graduated 9 years ago and since English is not my first language it took me long time to go trough the book you mentioned on it. I spend around 6 months, i am about to finish and just need to take some exam sample tests( i have a full time job so i guess add another month to it). but yes! i experience really hard time . I hope i can pass it. Thanks for the video
Hi Sarah I will take the class and english is not my first language too..So I understand how hard it is.Since this comment was one year ago hope that you already pass in the test.I am looking for some course for help me if you have some tip I will love it.Thanks
@@adriellyaraujo4871 Hey I am the same as you guys. I am taking the exam soon and I hope I will pass it. My tips are go over subjects with some youtube videos. They will refresh your memory. It helped me a lot.
Took the test yesterday. I totally agreed what you said not to hesitate to skip problems your not sure. I ended up still having more than an hour when I finished all questions I knew. (with about 15 flagged problems left)
I will take the Exam on 3rd of March , 2017 ( so I have one month of time to study). Thanks for your advice. I have similar profile as you , so your advice resonates well for me. Good luck to me , and will share you my experience then !!!
@@Tobee_Longwood PE requires 4 years of experience, or 3 years if you have a master's. You can take the PE right after the FE if you pass it. Good luck!
Excellent video. I'm writing my exam in one week and I found your tips and advice very helpful. Like you, I graduated from a Canadian school with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 2010. It's been awhile with some of the subjects, but hopefully it'll work out ok. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for the tips I just don't understand how it took you only 3 weeks to prepare , I believe if you really want to go confidently to the exam u need minimum 4 months , that's my own opinion , it has nothing to do with your level , it has to do with the quantity of the subjects that the specifications cover, I just shared my opinion because I am sure some one out there will feel the same I do feel now because it's really consuming my time to review the subjects and concepts especially that I graduated 7 years ago. Thanks again
I'm at a similar situation as you, except I work in Canada and as a foreign educated engineer (BSc in Poland and MSc in England) APEGA wants me to write the FE exam to get my beaver. I am a structural engineer (shouldn't really call myself an engineer without my own seal ;]) now working in consulting business in Alberta. APEGA revised my education and experience and said I would get my seal if I passed the FE exam. The problem is that I've been too long in the structural industry (5 years) to remember all the tricks, I've mastered my analysis and design skills but even a simple math seems to be a little bit overwhelming when I look at it. My older senior colleagues are the same, except they laugh at me that I have to take the exam ;) It's more about the preparation since the real engineering world has very little in common with the exam. I regularly solve much more complex tasks at work, but I do that every day. The FE scope is too wide to master any of their tasks. Anyway, I've booked the exam on December 29th '17, will see. Thanks for the advice.
APEG wants you to take the FE? That seems strange! Anyway I had the same difficulties as you. Unfortunately the FE does not test your design skills or any level of advanced knowledge. Unfortunately there is no way around dusting off the cobwebs and hitting the basics again :/
Darth Vader Ya it seemed strange for all of us including my employer. Anyway, it looks like apega is too small to make their own exam so they started relying on the FE exam. I actually don’t mind, once I pass the FE I can get EIT down there in states and maybe will think about taking PE. If they gave me peng right away I would be too lazy to take that route ;)
A quick update: I took the exam and I don't think I passed ;) will see but my chances are very low, simply because I run out of time very quickly. The first half took me 3 hours and that was fine as everyone says you should spend more time on the first half because it's easier. It actually wasn't, surprisingly I found the second part to be easier. I don't know why but my fe civil exam had differential equations! The First two questions were differential equations and that shouldn't have happened. I contacted ncees about it. That's one thing, the second thing is their super -slow FE reference book. Scrolling was just a nightmare, every time I scrolled the pages were just bouncing back and it was taking 1-2 seconds for each page to load. And zooming too, let's say you are on the page 5 and you want to zoom to 120%, it would zoom in and bring you to a different page! Super inconvenient. Overall very poor experience about the exam, lot of time wasting...
I will take the exam this june 26. I don't usually see youtube videos about experiences but I have to tell you that I enjoy your video a lot, mostly in the end of the video which I share the same opinion that you that this is a fundamental test. Some of my colleges told me that this exam was really hard for them. Like you I have two master degree but for the NCEES this is not relevant. I do my bachelor in Cuba and the master in Brazil and for me this multiple choice thing is 180 degree but i going to do my best although this test from my point of view don't measure anything, since you can have a mistake in one number and that it you miss the question that type of exam the only thing that measure is your nerves, but it is what it is you have to take it either way. All the luck for those who are studying rigth now to take it.
Hello Abel, I just came across your comment and I share most of your opinions about this exam. At this time you should have taken the exam already, please share your experiences so we can have more information about it. I earned a bachelor in Cuba too and your comments will be so helpful. I am going to take it at the end of this month. Thx

Abel, I forgot to tell you something, I am going to take the FE Exam in Electrical and Computer Engineering, but either way the information will be great. thx
Exam in next 3 days. (2nd March,2017) :\ I hope it's as easy as everybody is saying so. I used Michael Lindeburg's Reference Manual + 2 sample tests by the same author. I was able to get 76-78% in both. I really hope exam is as easy as those sample papers. Also, they're asking for Appointment Confirmation Letter to bring on the test center. How do I get that? I just have a 'Pearson VUE Checkout Summary' as PDF which includes Date, Appointment Time, Registration ID, Order Number, Location etc. I hope it's the same.
F**k I failed. I took the exam on April 28th before I graduated. Now they are changing to the new format so multiple choice guessing is no more. I don't think studying 3 weeks is enough. Many of my questions were 40% theories and many questions in Civil sections are crazy. Don't take the exam when you are not sure cuz you may get a hard exam set from NCEES.
Unfortunately, I did not pass, when I first took the FE (3 years ago) in my last year of undergrad (Last exam that was going to be on paper). I'm hoping to take it again and pass this time
Hi. actually I'm planing to immigrate to Canada and my question is "would be any benefit to pass the FE exam to get licensed as a civil engineer in Canada? or there is another procedures requested by civil engineering firms there?" Please advise
In Canada you do not need the FE, only an engineering degree from an accredited university. They focus far more on and scrutinize your experience instead of technical testing. The report you have to submit is quite detailed, so start by making a detailed list of all your jobs and projects you were on. You have to satisfy 30+ "competencies". For each one, you'll have to write a small report on how you meet the requirements and give an example of a project you were on. You will also need a reference for each one of those competency reports. References can be used for more than one report but you need at least 4 I believe. That is the system for British Columbia where I hold my license, not sure if other provinces differ.
I will take the exam in a few months. You think is good for me to take a course worth a 1,000us to get prepared for the exam? I made my bachelor degree in Dominican Republic 4 years ago. What do you think?
1000 seems steep to me but it depends on how far out you are. If you can afford risking a fail and taking it again, then I would take that route personally. You will learn a lot from the exam just from taking it once.
I have that book and I found misleading information about the exam in it. Such as that they say there are no exams in certain months of the year such as March. But I have already scheduled mine on March 2017. So I think it is better to avoid reading exam information from any source othe than NCEES and just focus on the technical material.
Hmm interesting. I couldn't find that in mine. The book is only guide. IT does't cover 100% of the material and covers material that's not likely to be tested. That being said, I still think it does a better job than the other resources I used, as long as you understand the book's limitations.
Thank man! I followed your advice and I passed.

I had to wait a couple of weeks to find out if I passed. It's a grueling wait! They'll send you an email and you can check on the NCEES website.

Do you think someone that didn't go to school can study enough on TH-cam and Google to pass the test?
late comment but you have to graduate from an ABET accredited school for the FE to even be valid lol

Onur Turkmen they don’t show the percentage when you pass. It only says “pass” on your ncees account
