I feel like in a way the Jedi sealed their own fates being so against new ways of being in tune with the force. They were stubborn and fearful of things they didn’t understand and chose to brush off the small things that had major impact and consequences in the future. In the end they were just wise fools.
I think it was more the joining a galaxy wide war as generals while calming to be servants of peace, and accepting command of a suprise clone army that no one knew about from out of nowhere

As I recall, Force Lighting is externalized rage/anger Thus in order to be able to use it,a Jedi has to tap in/give in to their anger/rage. Since using/giving in or tapping in to anger/rage is forbidden for a Jedi, this is why you'll seldom see a Jedi use Force Lightning

Emerald lightning was Luke's ability. It was pure and just as powerful if not more powerful than the force lightning of the sith. I find it hilarious how the Jedi held themselves back from gaining some of the abilities that grandmaster Luke was able to obtain simply because they were too scared and dogmatic to explore the true essence of the force and saw it as a divided entity...instead as a whole like it existed. Sure some sith would pop up every now and then but then others like Anakin wouldn't be seduced by the darkside. Most force users would tread on the lighter side but still use dark side sometimes. The Jedi failed to realise the importance of balance, anti dogmatic philosophies and open mindedness. That's why the empire made of thousands or even tens of thousands of Jedi was destroyed. Not because they weren't otherwise unstoppable, but because they were foolish

Bringing up Force Lightning just makes me think of the Force Unleashed, how they removed Starkiller from the canon and used his concept as a base for the Inquisitors, just so they could have a bunch of disposable Dark Side bad guys for their TV shows and video games.

The force manifests as different abilities and is depending on the individual force user. Like the colour change of force lightning and electric judgement or Darth Vader using his powers to strangle people while Obi Wan would use it to throw certain objects at his opponents or force push them. It depends on the person either being a compassionate individual or rather ruthless.

The Jedi and their total aversion to the dark side is why it keeps bouncing back so strong. The force requires balance, and it seems that when you try and get rid of one side of it, the force retaliates.
Kyle Katarn also can use dark force. plus Windu also highly possible can use dark force when needed, and both of them not get corrupted at all. in fact any jedi who use a purple light saber can use dark force. they just avoid use it in front of the council. since light side or dark side in the end it just the mind of the force user. not the type of force they using.
Windu did NOT use the dark side. He used the Sith's dark side. He was one of the most straight laced Jedi in the order, which is why he could handle it.

Force Lightning is the compression and expulsion of negative emotion. Hate, Anger, Greed, Envy, Fear, all of that compressed and harnessed into energy that is expelled as lightning. The Jedi equivalent was known as Electric Judgement and worked pretty much the same, the compression and expulsion of strong emotions. It had one difference and that was the emotion used; Justice.

Council didn't want to listen to Plo Koon because they're terrified of it. They don't fight in the Mandalorian Wars (In KOTOR Continuity) Because they were afraid. The council created Darth Vader because they never truly listened and helped Anakin, when Palpatine did. You tell me if a monastic order that claims to protect the galaxy but instead sits on their backsides and watches planets burn, the 'chosen one' to slip away, and many other acts of *Fear* the Jedi order (especially the masters) is anything but helpful to the galaxy at large. Though, they did take a more direct role in the Clone Wars. There are a lot of theories/thoughts on the order as a whole for the last 3,000 years.

There are only two Jedi I would ever choose to be trained under: Qui Gon, and Plo Koon. They were both remarkable Jedi who focused on listening to the Force rather than just the Jedi Order of religion.

They don't fight in the Mandalorian Wars (In KOTOR Continuity) Because they were afraid.
The council created Darth Vader because they never truly listened and helped Anakin, when Palpatine did.
You tell me if a monastic order that claims to protect the galaxy but instead sits on their backsides and watches planets burn, the 'chosen one' to slip away, and many other acts of *Fear* the Jedi order (especially the masters) is anything but helpful to the galaxy at large.
Though, they did take a more direct role in the Clone Wars. There are a lot of theories/thoughts on the order as a whole for the last 3,000 years.

After playing Jedi Knight and Jedi Academy i always thought "force lightning" in movies was actually a Force Drain
Jedi: lightning of any kind is forbidden, even one very weak that just immobilizes the target.
Also jedi: decapitations are perfectly ok as that's a quick and therefore mercyful death.

the first thing that came to my mind was baby yoda
Force Lightning: concentrating anger and hatred into a force attack designed to wreak pain and death upon its target.
Electric Judgment: concentrating desire to bring justice by subduing target in a non-lethal method. (then again Legends Luke probably has killed someone with it at some point)
They should totally make a plo koon show on Disney. It would be sick showing the live action of the character figuring out the power

There are only two Jedi I would ever choose to be trained under: Qui Gon, and Plo Koon. They were both remarkable Jedi who focused on listening to the Force rather than just the Jedi Order of religion.

Well force lightning was used to hurt/torture or kill so considering the Jedi are war criminals i dunno why they see this as taboo but snapping the mind of an alien nicknamed 'Lesser' is just fine 😊 ... despite its much crueller than any sith 😢😢😢
Also in the novelisation of revenge of the Sith it stated that palatines force lightning is powered by his hatred since that’s not a thing Jedi are allowed to do it makes sense that they wouldn’t be able to use it
