      I guess they did use the computer voice and many of the props from DS9. McCarthy composed for that episode so I can see why it was added. It's not *quite* DS9 exactly - there's a couple of notes different, but it's enough to evoke the notion of Cardassian tech / architecture.

    Years later, in a different timeline, and the Doctor as the ECH is recovering Voyager's crew from escape pods in a similar situation:

      Only squeeze so much into a 40 minute episode. However there could have been an end dialogue like "we spent some time getting to know the inhabitants....." I was similarly frustrated with a TNG episode when Barclay sent Enterprise to the centre of the galaxy to meet the Cytherians. Could have made another episode of that encounter or perhaps a later follow up.

    • @christianresel8051
      @christianresel8051 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yea about that... insurgence did in fact show us how it looks when a warpcore explodes. THat entire rift closing detonation? Was purely the warpcore, not the rift. Thats also why in most proper ST games when a ship explodes you take quiet some damage from it because of that warpcore.
      Why it was so lacking in the movie? Becuase the movie is frelling old AF. They didnt have the ability nor the money of more modern stuff back then. If they would remaster it it would look a lot more dreadfull. Hell even the detonation in TNG was waaaay bigger wich also crippled the impulse drives among other systems of the saucer section given it was nearly right next to the engine section.

      @@AidanMillward I can understand Chakotay not having sufficient credentials for the Computer's security systems to recognize him as First Officer, but you would think that the Computer would be programmed to recognize Tuvok as next in line for First Officer position in case the original First Officer was out of commission.
      I know that Starfleet isn't exactly a full-fledged military organization and this has come back to bite them everytime a serious war breaks out, but they still should have a codified chain of command and all that.

      the entirety of Star Trek forgets that when a ship is destroyed, all the antimatter is released, which means you should have a MASSIVE catastrophic matter-antimatter explosion each time,.. but never do. Only instance I can think of is the one time it was actually mentioned, in "Contageon" (TNG), and that wasn't even the result of the explosion, its what CAUSED it,... and still wasn't large enough of a blast

      @@rkmugen Aye. DS9 & this used CGI sparingly, but didn't get the investment in VFX that Enterprise did (such as being shot all in higher def' widescreen), though DS9 & Voyager used a lot of physical models whilst Enterprise used none. There's even ways to tell which was used for a given scene.
      The Orville uses both physical models & CGI, as they found better results could be gained through using both. As such some 1990's methods are coming back, albeit supported by better hardware.

Or being in Starfleet as long as he was by the time, he reported for duty aboard voyager I would’ve thought he would’ve been a lieutenant commander, or full commander by then. The other alternative is, due to their long lives. Vulcans remain in their ranks for a longer Duration, for the sake of some sort of career equality/inclusivity sort of thing!

    What I never understood about this particular episode was the self destruct sequence of Voyager. Whether it be the motion picture or Star Trek the next generation, when the self destruct is activated it would take to seeing the bridge officers at least to shut it down. That should’ve been the protocol here. Not just the captain. Two Buck was also on the bridge with her. The inconsistency is a bit illusion shattering.

    I enjoyed watching Voyager. This episode wasn't very good. The underlying theme, message, is that the lives and needs of voyagers crew is subordinated to anyones eles needs, desires. For Janeway this is consistent. If it were realistic the crew would mutiny, Who would want to sign up for that group. Like a father or mother subordinating the needs of his children to others, disgraceful.
