Just got back from Japan and went to two of those stores. Tackle berry is fantastic, there used lures are great. Spent about $1500 on tackle, lots of JDM stuff. So worth it.
There’s even bigger tackle stores in Japan. We’re like kids in a candy store there. They are so well stocked and organized. Nothing out of place. And with the dollar so strong versus the a Japanese yen, it’s so fun to shop. If you can find stores that offer discounts, has clearance goods or offer tax free shopping. That’s the key to getting high end JDM gear at a fraction of the price in the USA. As for lures/baits and other tackles…it’s fun to try to figure out how some of them are rigged up and what species of fish that are intended for. Anyways, it’s now my hobby to visit tackle stores in countries I visit.
The first shop, Joshyuya, located in Kanda, is like 4 min walk from my home. And the second shop is actually a tiny classic bamboo rod factory "Sakura Fishing Rod" and they don't really sell anything. They wouldn't talk to you. It's been there for over 100 years, I think. It looks like you headed right to Shibuya, but there are few more interesting tackle shops in Kanda neighborhood, like "Gill" and "Yamaguchi Tackle Store". Maybe next time.
My go to shop for fishing needs. Tackle berry is a budget friendly tackle shops they also sell second hand but in pristine condition...you can buy all sorts of fishing equipment from low budget upto high end stuff for as low as 50% off but you have to check the items very carefully for damages....i bought my ocea jigger 2001 for 150 dollars 😅😅😅 it's a treasure trove for all anglers😊😊😊
Im jealous you went to that "tenkara" shop. I think due to the location alot of the rods would be suited to goby "haze" fishing. Theyre fun when fishings slow for the big boys, i use mine for small bluegill and minnows.
