Saddest days as Essendon supporter......1/ 1996 Prelim v Syd 2/ 1983 GF defeat to Hawthorn 3/Gav leaving 4/ paddy leaving 5/ Dean Rioli doing his collarbone rnd 21, misses GF 2000 6/ not drafting Cyril 7/ '99 Prelim v (can't say their name) 8/ 2001 GF loss 9/ drug scandal.... Luv yer Wanga.....still in our hearts after all these years....it's beyond footy
dont know why I hadn't seen this Gav was bombers thru and thru and it shows how emotional he was talking about how he never spoke to the playing group { I understand that as a 23yr old that would have been so heartbreaking} but now his son Tex is with the mighty red and black if he lives up to being 1/2 as good as his dad he will be a star too
Would've liked some more questions regarding Port, both Maggies and Power, but I understand the bias. In pretty typical Gav fashion he was almost overly-humble. Talking about stuff and being asked questions he's probably been asked a ton of times since he retired and yet he still seems almost embarrassed by his accomplishments. Such a true, humble champion. The current side plays best when they play like Gav did.
I remember when he was so good, he would get taggers put on him playing back pocket. Unheard of. Also I think the best goal he ever kicked was against Brisbane, Night final, from the boundary line, off balance, out of mid air IMO the greatest back pocket of all time.
Gav is being so diplomatic here. Of course he loved his time at Essendon, but if you search his many other interviews online, his heart has always been with the Magpies.
+Straight Outta Atheism I think while he was a great player for Port and he says his 2004 season was his best, he's probably more known for being a great player at Essendon. May have been on the same level at both clubs but it was such an awesome time in football when he played for the Bombers that most people probably consider him a Bombers man.
+Shadow74342 shadow or shady you're a fukwit, he made his name playing with essendon and the reputation of being a gutsy and great player, I understand why he left and played for port where he was a great player also
He did, the interview question behind his bombers history was just more interesting to ask at the time. That's not me disparaging port though, sister supports them and it was a great final. Probably my earliest memory of watching a game.
Had $10 on Wanganeen to win Brownlow 1993 Monday Night Brownlow Night at the Dogs White City Launceston paying 10.00, only had $20 so was a nice payout, spent the rest on a couple of donuts and some dollar bets went home with $120.00 lol Me old man loaded up on Craig Bradley i said Nooooooooo
scraping the bottom of the barrel. met him up in queensland in 1994 when i was a 12 year old during summer at a local swimming pool. he was there with barry stoneham, justin madden, john rantall, greg williams, tony shaw, leigh matthews, mark ricciuto, jason akermanis, nick maxwell, david rhys-jones, neil balme, andrew mcleod, simon black, david schwarz, anthony koutoufides, mal michael, andrew demetriou, sam newman, matthew richardson, nathan buckley, rene kink, damian monkhorst, tony liberatore, keith greig, royce hart, bob murphy, stewart loewe, wayne schwass, kevin bartlett, alastair lynch, gavin wanganeen, corey mckernan, robert walls, peter sumich, denis pagan, jason dunstall, john kennedy jr, bob skilton, neil kerley, wayne johnston and phil carman. they were all acting like total flogs.
The Student Aviator He won a Brownlow and premiership in the same year for the dons, played over half a decade at the club. My comment was aimed at the “Essendon centric” commenters and your response hasn’t changed my position at all.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel. Met him down in Hobart in 2015 at the Salamanca markets at a local cafe. Tried to cut the line in front of me. Total flog.
Nicest guy going around and one of the best of all time
@J G Soccer: beloved by lady boys the world over....
Not an Essendon or Port Adelaide fan, but this is oneof the best Sheehan interviews. Gavin is so open and honest, a true legend of the game
@J G Soccer: beloved by lady boys the world over....
Im a hawthorn supporter ..
Man this fella is all class..
It was an honor to watch him.
One of the most courageous players I’ve seen in 60 years of watching footy.
Would of liked some more questions about his time at Port...... But hey thats the VFL for ya
Hey Mike , Gr8 Interview 👍
❤ the way Gav speaks . Chats with Passion & Conviction.
So humble and so talented. He took his destiny into his own hands too when he moved from Essendon to Port. Nothing but respect

Fantastic show. Wish they were more Port Adelaide Power/Magpies legends to get an opportunity to be on the show.

IMO the greatest back pocket of all time.
Never saw Wanganeen celebrate a goal for Essendon the way he celebrated his goals for Port Adelaide in the 2004 Grand Final.
Maybe watch the 1 goal he kicked and celebrated after 93 gf
@@tonymack2533 and he kicked the point of the century that game too :)
Gav is being so diplomatic here. Of course he loved his time at Essendon, but if you search his many other interviews online, his heart has always been with the Magpies.
Real pro Essendon interview ... probably need an SA person to interview him again
+Straight Outta Atheism check the red and black flannel. What does the tell ya? He was massively Port but Essendon people adore Gav and so does he.
Simon Bremner tells me he likes red and black flannel shirts ... he's a port man thru and thru dude but fuck yeah he loves both clubs
+Straight Outta Atheism I think while he was a great player for Port and he says his 2004 season was his best, he's probably more known for being a great player at Essendon. ROFL....dream on

swansfan says: incredibly charming guy and great player. why didn't we draft him?
mjr
tokyo
Gavin’s heart has always been at Port. Not that you’d know from Kevin’s interview
Lol keep thinking that mate.
Wangas was a jet - and was the difference in 2004 Granny - amazing finishing
Port man through and through
11:55 James hird. You can't teach that.
I wish Gavin Wanganeen played for Port Adelaide..?
He did, the interview question behind his bombers history was just more interesting to ask at the time. That's not me disparaging port though, sister supports them and it was a great final. Probably my earliest memory of watching a game.
As a Bomber Fan l was Absolutely heart ❤️ broken that Gavin left .
One of the Gutsiest Players 2 ever play AFL Football.
Truly a Magical Player 😅
recieved the greatest assist in afl history when diesel handballed him a brownlow.
A lot of essendon questions for a guy who played most of his life for port...
thought the same - I'm halfway through, and hardly know he played for anyone but Essendon.
Um, pretty sure they'll be a lot of questions when you win a premiership and a Brownlow for a club in the same season...
You followed football for any period of time? The bloke made his name at the EFC. You hardly understand the program
essendon essendon essendon wow this bloke doesn't stop.
+zyzz aesthetics Well it's where he made a name for himself. He won a Brownlow playing for the Bombers.
Why be a flog about it

You should’ve sent a crayfish to John Russo.
Dirty sniper should never have won a Brownlow

Terrible questions . Abo ? Short for ? Like Aussie ?
Salty port supporters with 0 understanding of history are the best

@@Stannas95 didn't borrow shit mate, he'd said it himself.....essendon made his name and you can be salty about it all ya want lol.
