    Beautiful challenging hike! Yikes those mosquitoes and a number of those mountains were just huge rock piles of large boulders! Thanks for taking us on your all's hike.

    Beautiful and great traverse! Thanks for sharing Dan! Sorry about the bugs but better than the experience I've had a couple of times in recent years in the Cascades where there were almost no bugs at all. It was spooky and had me worrying about ecosystem collapse.

    Looks like a great trip, and I thought the audio was very well-done. Lots of ambient sound, but not too much. Really made me feel like I was there.

    Thanks for sharing... Another great vid. This gives me some inspiration. I wanna do some of what ya did here and maybe add the Parsons plateau from Vogelsang to Ireland. Planning is a lot of fun too. ✌️

      @DanStenziano  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That looks like a great variation, love plateaus and ridge walks in the Sierra!

    Very nice! Some of my favorite places 😊 I saw you got from Unicorn pass to Nelson lake around the west side of Cockscomb, over Echo Ridge. From the high point on Echo ridge there's a great view down the length of Matthes Crest. Thanks for sharing!

      Actually, that’s what we wanted to do but not what we did. We wanted to go right over echo ridge into the drainage next to Matthes crest. Unfortunately it was dark and there was too much steep snow at the time so we went over the saddle east of cockscomb instead

    Beautiful! Lake Ireland looked a lot different than when I was there in August 2020 (I believe). Lots of algae made it not tempting at all to take a swim, though I had really wanted to before I got there. That area is one of the places that I want to get back to on a trip with more off trail hiking that would include some of the places that you went.

    Was that this year? Great route and so little snow for late June/early July. Nasty mosquitoes though, yet expected for that early in the season. Thanks for sharing and very inviting for a future trip!

      Yep, it was this year! We were very pleased with the amount of snow. Any less and Hell Hole would’ve been more of a pain

    Awesome route! Really enjoying your creativity on these latest Sierra routes. I think I followed along pretty well on Caltopo, but getting off the saddle below Cockscomb, did you just basically try to find the path of least resistance/least steep into the canyon? Did you have any beta on that section?

    • @DanStenziano
      @DanStenziano  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! so for this section we took the saddle northeast of cockscomb (specifically the second small saddle before the peak between cockscomb and unicorn), and looked for the path of least resistance down to the echo creek drainage. It wasn’t hard to find a good line with slope angle shading. In my opinion the ideal route would be to go west of cockscomb over echo ridge and into Matthes lake drainage, but we encountered too much steep snow on that route and it was too late in the day to feel comfortable going over it.

      @@DanStenziano Gotcha ya that makes sense. I was looking at the sentinel imagery from the week you were there in late June, and the north side of Cockscomb going over to Echo Ridge looked pretty socked in. Adding this route (or at least a portion of it) to the to-do list for the next time I get some dedicated time in CA.

    It looks like you guys were carrying the REI Flash Air 50 packs. Any comment on how they performed?

    • @DanStenziano
      @DanStenziano  หลายเดือนก่อน

      We both love them so far! They carry extremely comfortably. The side pockets take some getting used to. I’ve had to abandon my smart water bottles in favor of shorter ones that won’t bump my sides. The durability of the main fabric leaves something to be desired. Already getting some abrasion marks and small holes. But overall, I recommend it if you can get for a good price and are okay divorcing smart water bottles

      @@DanStenziano Thanks for your comments Dan, and keep up the great content. I came across your "Super Sierra High Route" video several months ago and it really inspired me to get off-trail more. Looking forward to your next video.

    I haven't done a Yosemite High Route yet. Which should I do first? The Skurka (south)? Or this one?

    • @DanStenziano
      @DanStenziano  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, this one’s shorter and logistically simpler. If you’re able to piece it together from this video and feel confident, go for this one. But if you want the help of an actual guidebook go with Skurka’s
