    The Best Fishing Jet Ski Ever Made? I picked this headline to spark some conversation -and maybe emotions - in the jet ski fishing community. If you're reading this, seems it worked? :)
    When I commissioned the fit out of this Yamaha FX HO Waverunner early in 2019, I had some clear goals in mind, both for the ski and for some serious offshore fishing. Budget is always the limiting factor, and although I wanted it to be perfect, I had to consider some compromises due to funds.
    I think it's come pretty close to the ultimate -but not perfect! The imperfections are a topic for another video. But this video will set the scene for some discussion I am sure around what the community would like to see in the ultimate ski designed for fishing. I have some good ideas for what would make the ultimate fishing ski. Maybe I'll get the chance in the coming years to see that dream come true! Love to hear your ideas too.
    The Fishpro was a watercraft manufacturer's first attempt at focussing on the fishing market. The product is good, it is priced well for the target market, and suits a wide range of users from beginner to intermediate. I'd love to try one myself but I must admit once you've had Tubbies, it's pretty hard to go back! It's a long story why I didn't start with Seadoo. It's ironic, especially since there are so many of them sold and resold in my region of Australia. But I think I have still have the superior package for what I wanted- serious offshore fishing. I'd be happy to have Seadoo approach me to change my mind!
    So with that in mind, please don't slam me with negative 'Seadoo vs Yamaha" comments. The brand doesn't really matter. I do not need to race my buddies, I do not need to pull a water skier,. I do 200 plus hours on the engine per year. So I just want a very reliable, functional, efficient, and comfortable fishing platform. I need space for the rods and kit I like to carry. The fish are not consistent around here and I need options if the plans aren't working out.

    Feel free to add some comments to the discussion of what the ultimate fishing ski might mean to you. I hope the Yamaha, Seadoo, and Kawasaki product managers are listening too so that they continue to improve their watercraft into better solutions.
    Right, that being said, if you are interested in creating our own Fishing Jetski, here are the details of what I use and where I purchased:
    www.shorelinejetskis.com
    Supplied the Yamaha FXHO ski and did all the fitout: Radio, USB and 12v socket, 27lt aux fuel tank, Tubbies fishing pods, etc
    The Tubbies are made in South Africa by Racetech. Shoreline are the Australian distributors. Check out Racetech site for info on how to buy in other countries. www.racetechyamaha.com
    I purchased my side and rear easy-mount rod holders from GC Jetski Fishing: www.gcjetskifishing.com
    Marine VHF: GME GX750 BlackBox 25W radio
    Garmin Echomap 65CV with GT23 (600w) Transducer
    The special JReel Covers, designed especially for jet ski fishos, are available now from www.jetcast.au
    These reel covers are designed to completely cover your reels and minimise the damage caused by the extreme water pressure that reels can come under when you are traveling at speed on your jetski. I use to throw reels out every 6 months or so until I started using these. Do yourself and your reels a favour and get some. International postage is also now available.

    Really nice set up, the only thing I don't like about the tubbies is that they restrict the area available to put your feet when sitting sideways. After recently researching jet ski's for fishing pretty heavily I agree that the Yamaha FXHO is the ducks guts of fishing jet skis. I just ordered the 2020 model and can't wait to get out there. Thanks for your videos.

      Thanks Paul. Glad you like to watch the videos. By the way, another person asked me about room for feet just yesterday. It's never bothered me actually. If the old knees are getting twisted and aching, I just put my feet up on the edge of the Tubby if I am sitting sideways. Most of time I am moving around (if you've watch the videos you'll know I keep busy) and the feet space has never crossed my mind. But I guess it would bother some people.

    • @Jetcast

      My gauge says I've been averaging 2.6 kilometers to the litre and if accurate would mean 226Km with 10 left over for emergency with the standard 70lt plus the aux 27lt. Re: Sabiki: yeah, am aware that there are some that are one piece, some disconnect at the butt only and are a tight fit in the Tubbies, and there are some too long. The interior size of the Tubbies is just under 1.8M, and my rod folded is 1.270M. (8 foot is 2.4M). Bad luck about the school aged kids in terms of use of the ski! Been there, out the other side now, so enjoying my time again. :)

      Hi Juan. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’d be putting the EPIRB on the outside definitely . Don’t store in hatch as I know someone who’s ski took on water offshore and became unstable and flipped. He couldn’t get to the EPIRB in the hatch for almost 2 hrs and when eventually rescued he had hyperthermia. I actually recommend a PLB (wearable EPIRB) and you keep this attached to your PFD. But an EPIRB in a place you can get to even if in the water is next best. Cheers and welcome to the sport!

      Yes that’s correct. My previous ski was a VX Limited and it had the touring seat with humps. I managed to split one the seat seams between the first and second “tier” in about 6 months of fishing. Yamaha replaced it under warranty but took a long time to get the replacement here. The FX Cruiser has a similar seat to the VX Limited. Seats and pull up cleats are about the only difference to the FXHO. Pull up cleats are quite cheap aftermarket if you miss them!

You stated 2.6km/L average for your HO, and obviously a supercharged ski would use more fuel, but I have read that cruising at around 35mph might not be that much different fuel consumption between the HO and the SVHO? As the ski would have to double as a family fun machine with the kids, I am leaning toward a SVHO. Any advice that you might have that might change my HO/SVHO thought process? Are you running single or dual
    Battery your ski?

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a dual battery setup with a selector switch and Voltage Sensor Relay to automatically charge the non-selected battery when the selected battery is fully charged. Some people don't like running these on skis due to the risk of the switches failing due to saltwater, but I've had it for 2 years and 360 engine hours on the water and so far so good. The inside of the Yamaha Waverunners is pretty dry compared to other brands I hear, and the battery system sits up off the bottom away so you need to have a serious drenching/dunking to get saltwater on it. The issue I have with one battery is that they can fail at the most inopportune -or dangerous -times. For instance, a local guy had a battery fail some 40ks offshore last year! So it started in the morning but failed later that day. I also use the electronics all day, so I want to be pretty sure the engine will start. Nothing is perfect and everything can still fail. The alternative is to have a gelcel sealed battery and a jumpstarter battery kit as backup I guess. And know how to use the jumpstarter.... I still carry one and have used it two times: once on a friends ski, and once on a boat that was stranded!

      Is your set up similar to this?

      What kind of battery are you using for the second battery?

      sorry this question ended up in the "held for review" and I just saw it. I dint watch the entire video in the link but yes that looks like the type of install I have . The second battery is a gelcel (sealed) similar size etc to the original but low maintenance.

    Front Storage is Pefect for fuel tank

    • @Jetcast
      @Jetcast  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there’s a couple around that do the job. I have the Shoreline Jetskis 27litre tank that mounted above the standard one. For these skis, you can get a 20litre model that you can fit yourself from GC Jetski Fishing in NZ, and there are some fuel bladders out there too. I use to carry a 10 litre plastic tank on my last ski in the front hatch. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks. The intention of the video title was to start a discussion on this topic. Please let us know what you think is the best jet ski for fishing and more importantly why. Thanks for watching and commenting. I am glad you did feel strongly enough to comment.

      @@Jetcast I thing any JetSky good for fishing if you not scared to be close to water .... Not in my case.
      Boat (little tinny) give you little bit more comfort and space.... Stabicraft 1450, actually size of JetSky on trailer but more future .... same money. That you think?

    • @Jetcast

      @@EdAndFishing Stabicraft are great boats. But not sure if they are the same price as I have looked at that small side console model but I saw a $50K (AUD) price tag on the water which is about double the price of this ski! . However the topic of this video is "best fishing jetski"- not boat vs jetski. That is a good topic for another video though! I have already had one comment on a social media site telling me I "should just buy a boat"! But that writer doesn't get the entire point of jetski fishing. I used to own a 15 foot boat, and I would never ever dream of crossing any of the local coastal bars in that. :)
