Another great vid. Nice work on those side waterslides. But fantastic work on that interior! Really perfect finish. I need to purchase a few of these kits. I have a 77 El Camino that has over 500k miles and still running good too.
I like that there's a model of this body style of El Camino. Theses and that gen Malibu don't seem to get much love. And, yes, I remember the gap between the front end and the fenders!
Thanks for all the little tips - just about to get into model building and it all helps. Been trying to decide between 3 diff el camino kits but In really like this with the clear gloss - very nice!
Best thing I've found for dashes is find a good picture of one online, then shrink it down on a computer to the right size, and print it out. Glue it in the bezels. A good dab of clear fingernail polish on top will give it the look of having the plastic over it.
I love your videos....but...I wish you would show more of how you get it done. For example..how you put that huge decal on the side with tips on how not to tear it. Im not a novice at building models but I am always looking for new tips.
That wasn't a negative on your videos. I really like them. I guess i'm alw always trying to learn new tricks since after many years of building models...I am still learning! But getting there is the fun part!
No offense taken. In some videos I'll show how I do things. Usually when doing a kit review I show how the kit comes out, and highlight any issues if it has some. It's a kit review, not a how to build a model video. Though tips and ideas of course do get included in many of them. I've started to film some techniques and tips videos on the side of the kit reviews since many ask the same questions as you, and one goes live today. As for learning, hell yes. I've been building for a long time and I still love watching other model people and how they do things.
Thanks Mike, yeah the Jeep I did had that nice metallic blue and now the metallic in this one. I can say it does save time just clearing the plastic too, much less work than a paint job. :)
I love this kit. It's nice seeing a build done with just polish and clear on the molded in color body. I always liked molded in color kits because they can be built without painting the body or they can be painted ANY color desired. But those billboard stripes Choo Choo Customs used have always annoyed me. The too large door handle and front marker light voids bring out my OCD... The 1:1 Choo Coo SS header panel was always an ill-fitting piece compared to stock. All GM G body cars from 1978-1988 had a seam where the header panel meets the fender, factory header panels fit very cleanly but still showed an obvious seam.
Jus wnted to say i really enjoy watching yer builds man! Great channel...great builds. Keep em coming! Youre build style is differnt than mine so its interesting to see a new take on building.i hav always painted parts by hand on the trees. But its all good wer all different. I like the variety. I paint real cars for a living so i tend to try and use real automotive paints when i can. But thanks fer all you do i love it
I just use a bit of glass cleaning paste, like you use on an oven. I'll show it the next time I just buff and clear the stock plastic. I like it because if the plastic is good, why bother with a paint job? Glosscote really works well on shining it up like paint.
gotbme the mongram 78 3-1 camino coming tommrow, im going to paint and build it like my 87 el camino (daily driver) and take it to car shows with me, i know people are going to hate it by its my model and my car right? thanks for these videos
I actually built this, red interior, flocked the carpet, swapped in a 427/4 speed from a damaged yenko Nova kit. Need a new nose cone, as I dropped it and my puppy grabbed it. Least she didn't eat it, just chewed it a bit. Oh well, shit happens lol
@@hpiguy yeah it happens. I'll just grab another kit, n use the nose cone. I'll maybe make the rest of the spare kit into a demo derby car or something like that. Keep up the awesome builds man.
I've been watching a lot of your videos lately and you've inspired me to considering getting back into building models. I've often heard you comment about the parts washer and I know you use simple green to clean your parts. Is the parts washer an appliance or something?? If so where do you get one??
Good review & build Chris. It came out looking real good. So, you lost the wire axle? sometimes they like to hide behind the corner flaps in the box bottom. If you hold each flap out just a little , it might come rolling out. Don' ask me how I know this. LOL
Thanks Rick! Yup, it's gone. Even dragged a magnet under the bench. Gone like a fart in the wind. I have wire that is the same diameter, it's used for control rods on RC airplanes and I fly those too, so I can just cut a piece and use it. Luckily.
Yes my friend that is a great looking build for sure... You're right of course those noise pieces ALWAYS stood out.. I remember them all having the Bra's on em here in Newfoundland to protect them from the salt on the road .. lol You mentioned Oven Cleaner?? Is it the Ceramic Stove top Cleaner? Or just regular Oven cleaner.. ? Thanks for sharing and thumbs up from me.. :)
I mentioned earlier on Facebook, but I found this model at Hobby Lobby reduced to $7.49! On the other hand I hope they are clearing out the kits for new ones and not reducing their model section.
Excellent work man. I was just wondering (I didn't see it did you drill out the tailpipes? I love that gloss coat and the front end I've always love that "stock car" look. Is there a chance that you could build the Revell 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo S Areo back? That would look great too!
those seams were even worse on the camino, than they were on the monte for some reason. I'm guessing because it was an afterthought to add the SS to the camino.
May I ask why it's an issue? Primer covers the plastic easily if you don't like the color. I like the metallic plastic they've used, easy to just buff and clear if you like the color.

I am building a 49 merc and I have learnt so much from you. Thanks.
Thank you, and enjoy that 49, is it the AMT kit?
@@hpiguy it is a revell merc
The Elky came out really nice. not a big fan of molded in color, but
that has got to be the best I have ever seen. Great Vid!
Thank you, yes, I've done two of their molded in metallics kits this year and both look great.
Wow!! Finally a decent MPC kit!! Well done Sir!!
Thank you kindly!
yet another outstanding build. liked the way you didn't paint the body and it still came out great. u da man!
Thanks George, I've done a few of the metallic plastic ones with no paint and they are pretty cool.

Turned out great, nicely done! I've always had a bit of a soft spot for these.
Thanks Spencer!
your el camino is beauty chris, paint and no paint and sweet details. thanks for the video.
Thanks Ronny!
That's really a cool kit. I like the way you built it. Happy to see metallic plastic again. Reminds me of my childhood. :)
Thank you!
Just picked one up! Gonna try to find a dash decal but the revised decals sure are better than the originals!
It's a fun kit!

Cool Build ! on the Camino worked for a big GM dealer in the 80's they were big on the Choo Choo Customs
Thanks Charles!
Used to live by choo choo customs. I am friends with the owners Son. Another great job!
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a nice comment!
I'm working on this kit now. Came to see how you put the mirrors on the side. I see you left them off. Thinking I may do the same. They are a pain
Yes, they can be a bear to fit right.
Awesome kit! I like the color they molded it in, Very cool little bike to, Thanks Chris....................... Mike(Whitey).

Thanks for the nice words. I've done a couple of videos where I just clear the factory plastic and they all look great.
This looks good . I have to get my hands on this kit
That is a nice clean build, its amazing how much shine it has. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
Thanks Chopper!
Another great video Chris! Great looking kit and build. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing...
Thank you Mike!
The thigh burner! lol, glad to see they added decals for the trail bike.
The thigh burner is back!

Thanks for watching Adam! Lots of ways to skin the model cat.
Very nice video I am Elcamino fanatic I am actually restoring a 84 Elcamino 1:1
Thanks Devin!
Looks very clean for an mpc kit.
Easy peasy build, no issues.
( dude ). THAT is badass 🤘🤘. like i said before i’m an el camino guy
Great colours used and nicely produced vid, well done mate. I am tempted to build my first Tamiya car soon
Thanks, you can't go wrong with Tamiya!
Do you ever try to put plug wires, battery cables, etc on any of your models?
Not yet, I try to review out of the box models.
I do have an aftermarket parts review coming up soon though.
@@hpiguy cool. I look forward to it.
Very nice El Camino, but what happened to the side mirrors?🤔
Forgot to stick them on until after the video. Sometimes I get ahead of myself. I've done the same thing on other builds.
Yep, I've done the exact same thing! It's a gorgeous build nonetheless!
I'll hope I get it tomorrow from the hobby shop 💪😍
Enjoy!
@@hpiguy got him !!!😂😂👍👍👍

Hello,
It's just a $1 basin from the Dollar Tree, nothing fancy.
@@hpiguy thanks. Appreciate the info
That is an Awesome kit. Are they still available?
Just came out, as always the link is in the description.

I mentioned earlier on Facebook, but I found this model at Hobby Lobby reduced to $7.49!

Yup they just dump older kits and restock. Always a good deal to go over their clearance sections and what not.

Nah, didn't drill them out on this one. Sometimes I bother with it, other times not.
Awesome job on this build my friend!
Thank you Todd, as always!
No problem, I really enjoy your videos.
Very cool mate, another super speedy super nice build
Thanks Gary!
I'm working on this same model right now.
Enjoy!
Great model !👍
Thanks!
looks great chris thanks for the review
Thanks Jeff!
went to autoworld to look at other kits and saw cobra race team 3-1 kit and bought it w/o thinking twice
Good pick, that will keep you busy for a bit!
Pretty cool
Thanks!
Next time brush on some thinned white glue on the bottom side of the hood and sprinkle a little black flocking to imitate the under hood insulation
those seams were even worse on the camino, than they were on the monte for some reason. I'm guessing because it was an afterthought to add the SS to the camino.
aaahhh the eighties ....
Nice build
Thanks!
While I'll probably buy this kit, I really dislike "molded in color" kits. I've passed on other releases due to this.
May I ask why it's an issue?
Primer covers the plastic easily if you don't like the color.
I like the metallic plastic they've used, easy to just buff and clear if you like the color.
I need this so I can make a duplicate of mines Conquista
