Lovely tone. My first wife went to Portofino as a child, loved it, and told me she wouldn’t marry me unless I could take her there on honeymoon. I couldn’t afford it, she married me anyway, but it only lasted 10 years…
Great playing and a killer tone - I´ve never heard anyone get this close before and your technique is faultless! Congratulations Vic, beautifully done.
Hi I been to portofino on a cruise loved it one of the best places I have been went back last year just can't get a enough of the place best wishes colin
Wow wonderful job and excellent editing on the production. I recently added one of these beautiful guitars to my collection. 2004 reissue Hank Marvin signature guitar from the deceased estate of the late great Doc Neeson of the Angels.
I love these old British guitars. Back in the 70's people were almost giving them away as they switched to Fenders and Gibsons. A friend got a very nice Burns in a swap for an old piano ! Not sure exactly which model - it kinda resembled a Strat and had the trisonic pickups but wasn't the Hank Marvin. If I'd known how collectable they would become I could have picked plenty of them up for little money. Got myself a very good 1964 Watkins Rapier bass a couple of years ago but paid about twenty times as much for it as it was when brand new !
Hi James, Thank you for your kind comments, much appreciated, I found your channel, just over a week ago, and have been admiring your sound, and enjoying your TH-cam post's, you have some nice gear, and the best in the TVS, your sound is enviable. Best Wishes Vic.
I'm back Vic, not really because I've never left. I wanted to confess, so you can rest assured in a fact. That fact is that Your playing style and skill are in fact TIMELESS. I keep coming back, year after year to always enjoy everything you've played. I surf around,.. nobody dose it better my friend. Thanks man! ... Mike.
I think that it was around 1964 when Kellogs were offering a Burns guitar as a competition prize. I can't believe how many bowls of Rice Krispies I ate in order to enter the competition as many times as I could. Needless to say I didn't win it. At that time, the Burns was a challenger to the American guitars (Fender, Gibson, etc.) and at a more affordable price. I never did buy one but ended up buying a Fender. Not a mistake but I do wish I had bought a Burns as well. This rendition is an excellent example of just what can be done with a good level of talent and a Burns guitar. Well done!
I was 16 when I entered that Kellogs competition. I was so hopeful of winning, but I'm still waiting. Ah well. I now have Squire's guitars and am happy but still dream of that elusive Burns
Hello Vic, I’ve got a left handed Burns legend deluxe with white pick guards which I bought from Burns in 1998. Absolutely beautiful tones from it and I gig it a lot playing Shadows music and everyone loves the sound of it. Burns also built me a left handed version of their six string barracuda bass guitars. I play a lot of post Shadows Jet Harris tunes on it. Best regards, Peter.
Fantastic rendition of one of my favourite John Barry pieces, nice work well done indeed, makes me want to learn to play the guitar. Thank you for sharing
OK,so its not the hardest piece to play on a guitar,...but I really enjoyed it,...your timing is spot on,and you didn't over elaborate on the basic melody, which is a plus.I've never played a Burns guitar, and now that I'm mainly into keyboards,I doubt if I'll be getting one,..but it sounded quite good.
Brilliantly played and you have helped me make up my mind which Burns guitar to go for. Please can you tell where got this particular backing track? Best wishes Graham
Thanks Graham for your kind comment. 'You Only Live Twice' backing track is from 'Marvin Mastertrax' CD Volume 1. probably still available online from 'Leo's Den' Yes the Burns Marvin is a great guitar. All The Best Vic.
i love the way you play it and have learnt it by playing along with you. i have searched for ages to find the backing track. i dont suppose you can assist me can you
Hi Vic, I love your interpretations of Bond themes and this one is no exception. Great playing, beautiful tone from the ESE Echomatic, a nice BT and crisp editing combine to make this a very enjoyable video. Best wishes from the USA. Ciao, James
Hi Vic well done on your 48000 clicks, this great version deserves it. You might like to know I have just put up my simple version of Sleepwalk under multitrackman. Take care Bob Palmer Rowe.x
Thanks Michael, It's never too late, get yourself a guitar, I have always found them irresistible, not just to play, but also to look at and admire. Vic
Very good . Best I`ve ever heard a Burns guitar sound .That says something for me I I detest them as Shads sound went down plug hole the minute they used them .This rendition has opened my eyes that they are not that bad after all . Well played .Nice video too .Lake Garda ? .
When i was young (very long time ago) it was all punk and cheap distorted guitar sounds all around and I DID ADORE IT! Then whe all grew up and tried to play more music and less attitude! That's when I realised that ,in fact, I was in love with the true sound of and electric guitar without to much distortion or effects and I started my quest for the "ultimate" clean guitar sound. From Fender to Gretsch and many others it lead me to Burns and that was it! Thess guitars also sound fantastic with more gain and effects (as they are really quiet and humfree). The tremolo is really accurate and stays in tune really well; Who could ask for more? Even in terms of price they are way under an american brand!
Wish I was young and rich and had a big yacht and lived there....paradise.😍 beautiful song.
Beautiful.....
Lovely tone. My first wife went to Portofino as a child, loved it, and told me she wouldn’t marry me unless I could take her there on honeymoon. I couldn’t afford it, she married me anyway, but it only lasted 10 years…
A really nice rendition 👍
Wonderful tone and playing, not to mention a terrific song. Best Bond song so far. I keep returning to this when I need a 'boost'.
Geoff Rendall.
You don't know the difference between a song and a piece of music!
I consider "You Only Live Twice" my personal anthem.
Way better than the junk currently out there.
Hank Marvin wouldn't have done it better...
Portofino, Genoa, my lovable town...Thanks. Portufin, Zena, a mæ bella e ünica çittæ... Grassie.
