As one who sings Bond songs among others, this is outstanding. Thank you all and Kerry, a superb voice with simply impeccable diction. Thank you all for sharing your gifts
I respectfully disagree. In my book, this is a good cover, but it lacks the lyrical coloring of the original. Her voice is also "harder" - with an edge - than Sinatra's voice, which was on the "pretty" side.
YOLT is one of the James Bond Movies I don't watch very much and, as a result, I forget that its theme song is one of the best; and this performance of it was great!
I have very picky perfect pitch. A song can be spoiled for me by the singer being a tiny fraction of a note, or missing a tiny fraction of a beat. But this is where I can really appreciate having perfect pitch. The chanteuse nailed every note and was flawless in tempo. Nice, subtle vibrato , good dynamics and great portamento. and swell. And you can see, she's really in the groove. I know just how good that feels, because I'm a singer and guitarist myself. I was in tears. Worth it. I believe she has perfect pitch, too, where a note isn't just a frequency, but a distinguishable shape or colour.
@QTheMusicShow. I have been looking forward to purchasing that book by Jon Burlingame about the James Bond music soundtrack scores for quite a while now. It must have been one of the other Bond film music soundtrack recording sessions that Barry was referring to when I think he said it took 12 takes to get a particular song just right.
No matter who sings this it’s just not as good as Nancy. It’s a proof that she alone owned this song with the grace of Sinatra heritage and the voice that’s perfectly matched for this wonderful composition.
This female singer's rendition of the magnificent John Barry and Leslie Bricusse song "You Only Live Twice" is beautiful and done with more nuance/interpretation than Nancy Sinatra's original version for the James Bond 1967 movie, but Nancy's will always be the definitive version!
I'm due to cover this song next week thank you so much! Listening to your performance has really helped and inspired me. In some ways you are better than the original, in my opinion. Class act, and you look stunning girl! 💕
Now this woman can sing. She commands your attention from the very first note. You have to apply a very distinctive restraint though out the song to pull this one off. She does so even better than Nancy Sinatra on the original track.
This is a very good rendition of the great John Barry and Leslie Bricusse song, ''You Only Live Twice'' but Nancy Sinatra's original version will always be THE definitive version!!
of course!! :) Though in fairness, ours was recorded live in one take, where as Nancy's was about 30 takes spliced together!!! But absolutely agreed. Stunning version (the original) - and we pay homage to that. Thanks for the comment!
@QThe MusicShow. Not to be picky, (and I realize of course that you said "30 takes" to illustrate your point) but actually I think I heard John Barry say once that they had to record Nancy's vocal in 12 takes because she was such a nervous wreck that she couldn't sing "You Only Live Twice" straight through. He just couldn't get her to settle down and relax - probably because by that time in 1967, the Bond film music scores were so hugely popular and Nancy knew that there were a lot of tremendous expectations and felt a lot of pressure riding on her doing a great job singing that song. So John Barry and the recording engineer on that magnificent song did an absolutely superb "cut and paste" job of stringing together short segments of Nancy singing that song to create a seemless single recording! In fairness to Nancy, she was not used to singing a song that has longer, extended notes. She was used to singing songs like her big hit song, "These Boots Are Made For Walking" which don't require a singer to sing long, extended notes. It is a tribute to how outstanding the recording equipment/technology was back in 1967 when the "YOLT" recording sessions occured, that when you listen to Nancy's beautiful version of that iconic song, you can't tell that Barry and the sound engineer had to string together segments of her vocal performance in order to create that magnificent song! What some people may not realize about how great the recording technology was back then, in 1969 when Barry and the musicians recorded the gorgeously beautiful slow ballad, instrumental version of "We Have All The Time in the World" for the "OHMSS" soundtrack, if you listen to that superb instrumental piece of music wearing headphones, you can actually hear the flute player taking breaths between notes that he or she plays on that recording!!!! In fact at one point during the recording session of Nancy singing "YOLT", Nancy said to Barry, "Are you sure you don't want to bring in Shirley (Shirley Bassey) to sing this song" and Barry responded, "Nancy we want your sound"!
thanks Michael. :) I'm aware of all that, but thank you for sharing! Have you read Jon Burlingame's book The Music of Bond? It is the bible of Bond music. I had to go and just refresh my memory - but in it, a reporter who was at that session was quoted as saying "Nancy must have sang it 30 times" and John Barry is quoted as saying "the final version was about 25 takes cut together". But - you know, point remains the same either way! Thanks again for the comment. Defo check out that book!
Battle . He told is... a-rad- a-plat on the drums... it looks up at his face, ... the soldier's wife asked, Thru the dusk, "why did the snake pause, look up at you?" Her love 's answer, Because he knew--one of us, because he was big (14) rattles, must die." She said , that through beachside dusk light, there is no address more beautiful than that of his ..nobility plus knockout tattered handsome he was. 25 minutes, they fought for their life and food. He and the rattler danced. Sparks flew from the shovel. A real warrior, as well as the snake! It ...was..he knew , looking, one of us must die.
Better than Nancy Sinatra. At the least, she's a better professional. NS's version was cobbled together because she was so nervous. Has she ever performed it live? My favorite Bond song! Lyrics, classic rifts, the epitome of Fleming bittersweet.
Damn! She's got something to say 😮 wow!
Yes! Drama, sex appeal, danger, glamour and excitement. This classic has it all. A fantastic rendition. Well done ladies and gents!
thank you .... feel your spirit ...beautiful
As one who sings Bond songs among others, this is outstanding. Thank you all and Kerry, a superb voice with simply impeccable diction. Thank you all for sharing your gifts

I think collaborative music is the peak of human civilisation.
Wow. This really makes me see that this actually is the most beautiful of the Bond themes.
I'd tie it with We Have All The Time In The World.
my favorite bond song and you nailed it loved your style it
I enjoyed this tremendously. An especially good vocalist! ❤👍
The Girl and band Smashed it.....

Beautiful performance.
Bravo! extremely well done! it does justice to the original but is still its own version.
Agreed. This is the most smoothly sounding rendition of this beautiful ballad. Can listen to this over and over.
Love James bonds tracks and this cover is excellent.
Best vocal interpretation of this haunting ballad ever recorded! Certainly better than the original.
I respectfully disagree. In my book, this is a good cover, but it lacks the lyrical coloring of the original. Her voice is also "harder" - with an edge - than Sinatra's voice, which was on the "pretty" side.
@@mcbrion1951 I respectfully agree she did it better than Nancy
You're out of your mind. Nothing compares to the original, they can only try. Dreamer, you have to learn more about excellence.
@@mohammadpannahmahar8466 Modernists have little taste.
@mcbrion1. Yes, definitely Nancy's original version of "You Only Live Twice" is THE definitive version of that iconic James Bond Main Title Song!!!!
Beautiful cover version!
Brilliant

Best singer since Nancy Sinatra singing this song
Amazing performance! When I get shivers and goosebumps, I know when I am touched. And I was by this rendition.

Enchanting !
Magnificent!
An angel sings x3
Fabulous
Oh Wow, VERY NICE 👍
Great tune with educational lyrics
Hard to top Nancy but she does a great version!
this woman's voice is a lot more powerful than Nancy Sinatra's
Nancy couldn't sing the song the whole Way through without mistakes. So they had to splice together all different bits to make the finished result.
STUNNING!!! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!
Bravo
Hermoso!!!❤
The singer is good!!
wowwwww fantastic
That's fantastic
Marvelous!
fantastica
Class👍

@randywhite3947IMHO…
5. Live and Let Die
4. Casino Royale
3. You Only Live Twice
2. Skyfall
1. Goldfinger
great version!
agree, the best rendition much much better than the original bravado from chicago
Most kind!
Wish John Barry could come back he’s so desperately needed🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
Likeeeeee. Brazil
!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
I think one of the reasons this is so effective is that it adheres so closely to the original.

Wonder what's beyond what I see she is inspiring and it wouldn't happen without all the rest of them in harmony
You are wrong Toohtwo. Nobody can sing this half as good as Nancy.
Stunning! I do a James Bond Tribute show as well and have recorded a tribute album. Would be so lovely to sing with a stunning orchestra s yours

If Mad Men Season Five brought you here, that's OK, too.
Better than Nancy's version...which was made from 25 different cuts put togerher.
Bjork does a great rendition

It's THE Bond song and there is plenty of competition. Check out the Natacha Atlas version - and her 'best of' is worth getting.
Much better than Nancy Sinatra
No. Never.
She's FAR better than Nancy Sinatra, it's almost an insult _she_ didn't sing it originally! Absolutely beautiful!
Def. Nancy's had to be glued together in the studio, she couldn't sing it straight thru
This is what the original SHOULD have sounded like. Sorry Nancy, nothing personal.
You only speak true.
Beautiful, beautiful. ...Amazing
She’s really something...Agree! 🥰
Nice cover but a bit slow in tempo.

Oh come on Nancy sang within the musical style of the time
