im asian male in his 40s non fade hairccut look usually. i find most barbers tend to be white or black with tattoos look. should i bother or would i have hard time getting hired as a barber. they want someone that fit the archetype clients want
There’s no criteria to be a barber. As long as you can cut hair no ones gonna judge you on the way you look. Of course some people would want certain people to cut their hair cause it makes them feel more comfortable. For example, I get a lot of asian clients cause some of them say when they go to other barbers they “don’t know how to cut asian hair so I have to go to an asian guy”, things like that. That’s why in the barbershop I learned that it’s important to appreciate the clients that would come back! In the end, as long as you can cut hair no one’s gonna question you. Work hard, be kind and you’ll build a great clientele! Hope this helps 🙏🏽
Barbering is one of those careers where you can make as much or as little as you want. The grind to collect a huge clientele is difficult and long but the journey to get there is very satisfying. It's also one of those skills where it never leaves you and you'll always have it. What I found is that you really have to love this job to be in it for the long run. Working with the public can be hard at times but it can also be very exciting! Hope this helps!
Hey bro sorry i just saw this comment now. Depends on the shop some shops want you to wear clothes that go with the theme of the barbershop, i try to wear black shoes i have all black slip on vans and the classic black and white vans i swear to work the most.
No but I was on apprentice price for a short amount of time. My bosses realized I was good enough to be on the regular prices right out of barber school.
@@lyfe_of_drew8601 you find cutting your own hair is good experience? What’s are pros and cons of working in industry I heard no health benefits in this industry ? Say good bye to breaks and lunch break ? Is it true
hey bro, would you recommend barberschool to someone whos got 0 experience in the field? or should i keep practicing in the garage until i get the hang on fading
Honestly it really just depends on how you like to learn. Me being a hands on learner I needed a way where I could get a lot of reps but also have someone near me helping me and guideing me on what todo, so barberschool seemed perfect. But if your already getting clientele in your garage and your ok with watching tutorials on youtube that way is fine too! I would always recommend going to school for whatever it is you wanna do because its an investment in yourself.
Hmmm honestly can’t really think of any bad that really came out of barber school cause iv been out for a while now. Although, just like any school it wasn’t perfect so I just tried to see the best out of what the school had to offer! But if you asked me right after i graduated I’m sure I’d be able to list a couple things ahaha
@@lyfe_of_drew8601 oh wow really. Yk alot of barbers talk about why barber school is or isnt worth it but most of them never attended. So its cool that your sharing the actual experience of it
@@kale3668 yeah man by the comments Im getting it seems a lot of people are intested in the whole is barberschool worth or not topic, which is awesome!!
Im sure there are some online courses somewhere. I think Chris bossion one of the top barbers in the industry, in my opinion, has some with his brand tomb 45. Also babyliss most likely has some also!

So after school do you immediately start working at a shop?
Whenever you feel comfortable you can start working whenever! ☺️ I got lucky and one of the instructors offered me full time after I finished school.
@@lyfe_of_drew8601 im 28 and was wondering if its worth the investment. Looking for career change. And if it worth it or not. Never cut hair before
