Could you please tell me how to fix a centrifugal clutch that won't engage fully and starts smoking quickly its a new clutch and it's on a predator 212 ghost
I don't understand why you guys didn't just slap a PVL or Billet Flywheel on there instead of another rusted out stock one? Or was that the whole point you wanted to see what it could do stock and you'll build it up in the future?
Thanks guys. We used to run these blue engines on bicycles with a centrifugal clutch and a friction drive jackshaft mounted above the rear wheel. They would easily keep up with traffic on the 45 mph roads around my shop. Challenges: Very high center of gravity, too much power for friction drive, tire failure, and catastrophic valve keeper failure at high RPM. Basically you could get about 40 miles before tire pressure would blow the rear tire off the rim, or you would drop a valve. Few aftermarket parts were available, but the engines were only 79 bucks as an Inside Track Club member at Harbour Freight.
I got to say. This video has got that old time feel again. Like when you first started you tube. Just basic stuff two guys working together to get something going. I miss these kind of videos. Not over produced. What you showed anybody can do and relate to.
The pre Predator Harbor Freight engines were called "Greyhound" engines. I still have a brand new 11 hp one in the garage still in the box I never used yet. They had a very good reputation...
I had a greyhound 6 horse on an ancient yardkart I bought out of a barn. It was wasted! Mainly from being ridden to death then parked 10+ years. The governor got stuck open while test riding it and I jumped it over a drainage ditch 😂
John is dialed for the Sunday Bonus. First he amazes us all with the Yerf Dog trivia. (Godfrey) Then humors us with "heavy like it's full of parmagne cheeze"🎉
I love it, 'driving a slow thing fast', is a lot of fun. In my youth a bike was part of life, and my biker life got put on hold to raise kids ect. now as a retired senior a 50cc scooter is my joy, a vintage 2 stroke engine swap is in the near future, look forward testing it's limits.
One note : Most blowouts are caused by under inflation, resulting in sidewall flex heating up the tire causing delamation. So put in enough air to carry the load and keep the loads small.
I've worked on a lot of vintage sleds, and if you're bringing back an old CVT, one of the things to do is sand any rust off the sheaves so the belt can shift smoothly and doesn't wear prematurely. 220 grit is fine for steel, maybe 400 for aluminum. The easy way to sand the primary is to do it with the engine idling so it's like a lathe. There's no real trick to sanding the secondary except to wedge it apart for better access. A very light coating of grease on the sliding portions of the secondary shaft and ramps helps, so does taking apart the primary and lightly greasing all the moving parts. Obviously be careful to keep any grease away from the belt. Other than that, belt alignment matters a lot, so if at all possible find out what it's supposed to be and set it correctly.
This was one of my all time faves! I have family (Ramsden Racing), my namesake, that races F2 sidecars over in the UK, including Isle of Man every year. They are always top contenders, and I can't wait to see them race again this year. Steve and Matty don't have ANYthing on you guys (John and Ike) doing side car monkeying on that course! I knew before the times were announced your style would come in first. Kudo's guys! Those other guys were awesome as well. Super fun video.
As many seats as you guys do, you need to invest in a cheap air stapler from HB. Squeezing one of those guns makes it more difficult to wrestle the fabric, and hold the piece, etc.
Damn magnet exploded and pull cord breaks on resurrection pull and still toted you big children round like a champ that one earned some extra love plus "its a yerfdog"
I have to say guys, the track time with that amount of weight on a 6.5hp engine that is over 10 years old, is very impressive. I'm just curious now about how fast it could be with one person. Then do some upgrades, maybe. Would be a cool episode.
I just got home from picking up 2, single seat, full suspension Yerf-dogs. Both in really nice condition. I walked in the house and what was on TH-cam? Carsandcameras with a Yerf-Dog! Doesn't get any better then that!
This was a fun watch! Seems like every kid in the neighborhood had one of these for awhile in the early 2000's before they ended up under a tarp in the backyard, loved finding them and odyssey's.
Feels like a classic episode this, grabbing an abandoned machine and bring it back to life with as little parts swapping as possible, even if the resulting product is sketchy AF with all the rust & crust... :P
My Dad bought one of the blue harbor freight engines before he passed in 2009. i had it in storage until last year when I pulled it out of the box and plastic bag. put some gas in it and fired it up. drained the gas and it is in my garge waiting for a project.
You've gotta get security cameras and have them rolling 24/7 for when the crazy shit goes down. I run a bunch at my house and I've caught all sorts of wild shit on video.
When I change my lawnmower or mini bike tires. I use a rachet strap to push the bead closer to the rim. It allows the bead of the tire to ride up the rim. Once you have at least a few pounds of air with the core removed it will seat. Then you put the core back in. I do mine by hand.
I've had a coil pack vibrate just loose enough that it magnetized to the flywheel, grabbed the lip near the magnetic and ripped the coil right of the block putting a nice big hole in it.
Ya'll get to live out my favorite hobby as a dream job I'm totally here for it. Some of my best memories spent with my grandpa working on a small engine something or another.
Who would rather have Go karts and Pizza then women ??? and rock n' roll and beer and a nicely built tree house ! WE ALL WOULD ! I'm 63 by the way . PK
had a yerf dog the stock tecumesh broke on it funny enough it locked up to. i threw a 212 on it and blasted the trails the rear swing arm broke into 4 peices after hitting some whoops hard. i miss that thing
I remember when I had this jerf dog in the early 2004's and Sam's Club was selling them. These things were fun. Man to see it back in action. It's pretty cool awesome
--------------- If you're ever trying to pump up a tire on a lawn tractor/go kart ect.. use a ratchet strap around the centre of the tire to get it to grab n seat. If it dont then add little dish detergent to the outer rim -----------
I worked for a Lawnmower shop in 1988 in my area for the spring and summer with some Valve jobs we would shave the HEad some to increase the compression. that was fun. We had a lot of cooling fins packed full of dead grass that spring, we put together a lot of short blocks that summer.
My friends and I have had our fair share of fun with Jiang Dong's, I spent a good portion of my summer getting my JF160 powered minibike to run right. I watched my friend's JF160 let the magnet go, it was a loud splintering clang and the bike shut down. Once we tore into into it, we discovered the magnet hit the coil, breaking off the mounts for the coil, and destroying the engine block! So you guys got lucky I think!
Man I’ve been watching you guys for so dang long since before you tried to make that raggedy shed your shop behind the house lol. I always wondered like man my life has changed so much in the 6-8 years I’ve been watching I’m glad to see nothing has changed. The rat rod build the OG rat rod build was what did it for me.
blue predators were on all the gas pumps not sure if they are still blue for the pumps or not though just recently sold the blue 79cc I got from a hft water pump
i have the same yerf dog gokart but its a one seater im redoing if not ill sell it. are they goo dfor off roading . the gocart needs a turbo an led head lights
I used a new old stock Greyhound 212 from Harbor on a go kart. It fired right up after sitting in the box for 10 years and it has a better air filter than today's Predators
19:14 10 years ago at Harbor freight. You could buy that engine for $98. I had one on my yerf dog I put a new comet clutch in it and then found a square belt and you’re going to think that I’m crazy but the belt was actually square get a lower deck belt to use up every bit of the top speed. It was capable of giving without gear changes. It ran on the higher side of 36 mph and it still had bottom end
What's your motto Isaac? It'll be fisend. It send it boys I love watching your account yet. I run across shovel a couple of years ago, actually on accident.I was just looking for car content and you'll come up

Bonus video Sunday! It's always fun to buy a clapped out go kart and race it around the yard with friends!

Sunday funday!!! Carsandcameras dropped a weekend special! And it's a old revival. I love these style videos.

I came here to say this
A sunday special? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
I'm absolutely loving the "just send it" mentality in this video! That's Top Tier entertainment! Love it!

This is classic C&C:
Find some junk in a yard, spray everything with break-clean and beat on it til it runs.
#PERFECT

I love a good old-fasioned CarsandCameras video!
That white stuff in the intake port is called natural dimple porting little scape aftermarket!

Picked up a YD a couple of years ago at a garage sale. It was bare. Modified the snot out of it. Put a Kazuma 250 on the back. Lots of fun
I love how the cart had that "end of life governor surge" as I call it 🤣🤣
Just restored one of these 2 weeks ago was so excited to see you guys work on it! These things haul with a 212 and 30 series

Go karts are so fun to work on, because the parts are usually cheap and easy to find. A ton of fun with friends!

After y'all fix the steering make it go faster until the old engine blows up, then put a bigger engine on it.

Never heard a Yerf Dog whine so much! It actually pulled the weight tho!
Seeing the "sidecar" practice is done.
Mini bike with a sidecar "chair", possible build ??? , cos no one else has done it yet.
At least it wasn't a magnet that hit John! Imagine if it wasn't caught by that shield.

That’s a nice fun fact about yerf-dog
I have had a couple predator style engines toss a magnet. one took the whole recoil cover fan and flywheel with it when it went. Scary..
That’s the first time I’ve seen the magnets fly apart like that and Im much older than you young in’s 😮😮………..😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉😉
8:11 the old tire actually turned to point out his brother sitting in the dark recesses of that far corner, just beyond view - but alas no one saw.
Great stuff guys thanks
i think my first go-kart was a Yerf Dog given to me by my granddad as a Christmas present when i was 8 i think it made some of the best memories
You should slammed the trailer to go with private pile 🤘🤘
You need to build a go kart Tow truck.😊
I have th exact same cart, welded an old suzuki 185 three wheeler to it for a migshift shifter cart
I had a 2 passenger Yerf dog it was fast and fun in stock form.
Add a bonfire and 10 parents not watching us and this was my childhood (plus dirtbikes 3 and 4 wheelers) but yea....ahh the 80s lol
Awesome thanks for the video I had so much fun
Soooo, you guys have to build a "Side-Kart" now. Let's make this happen.
blue predators were on all the gas pumps not sure if they are still blue for the pumps or not though
just recently sold the blue 79cc I got from a hft water pump

Not bad lap times with 2 people.

Ike and John doing the sidecar co-pilot bit was the funniest thing I’ve seen on here in ages
I had the magnet come off like that on one of those but it hit the coil and broke the coil standoff's off the block and ruined the engine.
