When we left off in the previous episode, I’d just discovered major subfloor issues -- powderpost beetles, and fungus growing out of the floorboards under the window. Oh, and to clarify, we’ll be using the old hardwood floor as a subfloor over which we install the new maple hardwood flooring. And since we’re using the old hardwood floor as a subfloor, we’ll be installing the new hardwood floor diagonally, so that the new floorboards run across the old floorboards (running the new floorboards in the same direction could lead to issues down the road).
But before we actually install the nail-down hardwood flooring, I had to replace the damaged subfloor, and treat the new hardwood floors to prevent further powderpost beetle damage. I also discovered a major structural framing issue with the floor, and redid the framing in that area. Then, finally, we start to install the hardwood floor in the living room. I used an Ecocork Foam Underlayment and 5” wide maple hardwood flooring for the living room floor.
