Swapped out the factory chrome grill inserts with black inserts. I was determined to do it without removing the bumper. It is possible, but a bit uncomfortable.
Dam I missed that. That Bitch. Jeff Lowe got an anonymous letter saying her ex husband is buried under her house. She has denied this in the past. Really she denied murdering her husband and burying him under her house. Hmmmm
Just ordered these. Can’t we just stick them on without removing anything? I’d like to know how the adhesive held up? I have temps of -35/40 up north so I am curious before I put them in
Great video - I agree, don’t know why these aren’t blacked out like the rest of the car from the factory. I’m wondering if I should add a little gorilla glue to the adhesive 🤔 I don’t feel like repeating this project.
@@dereksmith2929 I skipped the gorilla glue, my dad said it might expand and crack. I haven't had any issues yet either, and I may or may not have had a few screws left over - haha!
Nice, honest review. I book marked both items on Amazon...the grill replacements and the adhesive type but then decided to check TH-cam and saw your vid. No way in hell am I going to remove the grill. Do you have a link to the tools you ordered if I decided to get brave and do what you did? Thanks again for the vid.
You certainly could paint the inserts gloss black. I just chose not to because of the time involved in prep work (cleaning/de-greasing the inserts, primer/paint/clear/etc.), plus I didn't want to risk the paint chipping over time due to bugs/rocks/road debris. My rattle can skills are mediocre and I just didn't want to have to redo it at a later date.
Since they have the adhesive tape on them, doesn't that mean you're supposed to just stick it onto the grille? Don't have to take literally anything off not even rivets
That is correct. You don't have to. I took them out because even when placed over the old inserts, you could see a little bit of the chrome in the mesh portion. It would've been fine if you looked at the vehicle head on, but if you approached from the side, it would've been noticeable.
@@dereksmith2929 ahh ok gotcha. I haven't put mine on yet, I blacked out some other things and with less chrome it looks pretty good without going full blackout
@@Sickwitit18 Yeah man sometimes just small subtle changes make a huge difference. These are good looking vehicles from the factory, and options are limitless. I've personally never been a fan of anything chrome, so it's usually the first thing to go when I get a new ride lol
@@dereksmith2929 I feel that lol, I started to delete all my chrome but right now it seems like a good balance, and less pricey. Friend me on IG and we can share car pics/progress. @issa_hemi5280

2017. It may work on yours, but I know there's some slight differences between different years within the WK2 platform. I'm sure there's part available for the '12
"My mom taught me to never stick your hand into any dark holes you can't see, unless its a drunken night in Seattle." AHAhahahah!
“Or lady I guess” 😂😂 Lady here! Love the vid! Thank you for the content. Very informative!
Thank you! Hope it helped!!!
"The only screw that gave me a problem was this one, that one was a real Carol Baskin". BWAHAHAhahah! Hilarious.
Glad someone got the reference haha

"My left hand has become pretty useless ... as I have come to find out over the years". HAHAHA! You should make all kinds of tutorial videos.
Planning on it as things come up. Working on a lowering spring install video. It's been a project so far lol
That was a real Carole Baskin 😂🤣😂🤣

Does wrapping a vinyl makes sense ? My mesh is black only the rings are chrome I am thinking of vinyl wrapping the rings
Thank you for the video. How long did this project take you?
Also, FWIW, I found the same ones on eBay for $48, shipped from Cali, relatively quick shipping!
Nice. I just ordered mine.

That’s probably not a bad idea! So far these have held up pretty well. I haven’t had any issues yet

Thanks man you helped me a lot removing them. But You could've just painted the old one instead of buying in amazon. I just got my grand cherokee.
Anyway you’d sell the black rings or do you know where I can buy them
Amazon
Looking to do this.... could you just have painted the inserts gloss black? Would there be a huge difference?

Good vid. Where’d you get that ratcheting angled screwdriver?
One Who Knox I got it at Harbor Freight for $2.99 www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-right-angle-screwdriver-92630.html
I felt good after watching your video… however, I hated every second of doing it lol. Definitely would never do it again.
I am looking for chrome inserts. Did you keep yours?
Yeah they’re just sitting in a box in my garage
Video would be easier to watch if it was widescreen, turn your phone sideways next time and you'll eliminate the black voids on the left and the right
Anyway you can post the amazon link?

Why not just take the OEM grilles off and just spray a couple coats of gloss black and snap them back on??
$5 bucks for the spray can 🤷🏽♂️
U could of just painted them black with plasti dip
You don't have girl hands! Hahahaha. Thanks for the video.
